Story
HI - I'M MISTO! I am a young (about a year old) husky-shepherd mix rescued from a crowded California shelter not too long ago. I was terrified there -- I mean really scared. I wouldn't even come up to greet people. But after a few days out of there, my sunshine personality came out! I'm a loving, dog-friendly boy who would do well with another dog in the home, or as an only dog, too. I love to play and am happy! Change is a bit scary for me so I would do well with both a patient and active person, who could take me for walks, hikes and other outings. I have the most beautiful blue eyes, and I weigh about 50 lbs. Please email for an application! I currently need a foster or forever home.

Story
Meet Stormy, the husky. You may be wondering why Stormy is missing hair. Well, Stormy came into the Shelter after her prior guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Stormy was an indoor dog who also had access to a securely fenced in backyard. She lived with another dog and a dog-savvy cat and did well with them. Over time, Stormy started to itch and bite at her skin. Her previous guardian did not have the resources to take her to the vet. After realizing how uncomfortable Stormy was, she wanted her to get the help she needed so she surrendered her to the Shelter. The medical team has gotten Stormy on the road to recovery with some oral and topical treatments to help her feel better. Despite her condition, she has been social and tolerant of handling and treatments. As an older gal, she is easy going. She still enjoys her walks and has met other dogs without issue. Stormy’s next adopter will need to be an individual who has the resources (time, finances, etc) to take in a senior dog with medical. This will require more frequent vet visits, especially while working with their veterinarian to get her skin feeling better. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Lollipop, Lolli for short! This husky mix is just as sweet as her name implies. She arrived to the Shelter as a stray with a foot injury to her right rear food. Despite her “ouchie”, clinic staff have observed that she was loose and wiggly for her vet examination and rolled over on her back. After some further diagnostics, it was determined that Lolli has dislocated or tore a ligament in her outer toe on her foot but her injury is improving quickly with rest and anti-inflammatory medication. Lolli will likely continue to recover in an upward trajectory and if things change or do not resolve, adopters should follow up with their veterinarian. Lollipop has been fairly neutral in passing by dogs in their kennels and out on walks but does not appreciate when they are getting to close to her when she wants space. She is not shy about communicating her need for space and gives a little spice with her sugary nature. She may enjoy a home with another mellow dog or may be just as happy being the one and only. To help keep Lollipop happy, adopters should not plan to visit high traffic dog areas (dog parks, beaches, etc) to respect Lollipop’s communications. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption.
