Story
~~Although we do our very best to make sure your new pup is in tiptop health before adoption, things could drastically change a month later. Since we don’t have a long health history of your adopted dog, we can only treat the pet for whatever symptoms present during the initial exam and follow up exams.~ Health: **** she is being treated for a low thyroid condition. No other obvious health issues found during vet exam ***** Temperament: About Sophie – A Tiny Soul in Need of a Big Heart At just 6 pounds, Sophie may be small in size, but her journey has been immense. With her delicate frame and sweet little face, it’s easy to fall in love at first sight—but Sophie’s story is one of resilience, and she needs someone truly special to help her write her next chapter. Sophie has spent most of her life with one owner, but after a baby entered the picture and caused her long-term distress, her world changed drastically. As a result, Sophie is extremely fearful and lacks confidence around humans. She’s now in rescue, surrounded by many other dogs, which has been a bit overwhelming for her. The life she’s known is gone, and she’s doing her best to adjust. Sophie is currently healing from an untreated thyroid condition that left her with significant hair loss, but she’s now receiving proper treatment, and we’re optimistic about her recovery. With continued care, her coat—and her spirit—will blossom. She’s not ready to be your lap dog just yet. She’s unsure about being touched or picked up, and if she feels cornered, she may threaten to bite—not out of aggression, but fear. A gentle approach (and yes, sometimes a towel) helps in these moments. She’ll need someone patient and experienced, willing to teach her that being held can be safe and comforting. Sophie cannot be adopted into a home with children—no exceptions. Her ideal environment is a calm, adult-only household with someone who understands that building trust will take time, but the reward will be worth it. She is comfortable being left alone for several hours and is potty pad trained, though she prefers to use a dog door to go outside when needed. For such a tiny dog, she does a great job holding it in for longer stretches. Leash-walking is a completely foreign concept to her, and while we’re introducing it slowly, she currently finds it very stressful. However, Sophie does enjoy stroller rides and will quietly take in the world as you walk the neighborhood together. This little girl has been through a lot—but deep inside, she wants to bond. With time, kindness, and a lot of patience, Sophie has the potential to become someone’s deeply loyal companion. She may not be the “perfect” dog at first glance—but for the right person, she could become a perfect match. Are you the person Sophie’s been waiting for? Adoption: ***** $500.00 ***** Weight: 7 lbs.
