Story
Meet Wicket a 5 ½ year old 15 pound Pomeranian Poodle Mix. Wicket was surrendered to Needy Paws when his elderly mom became very ill and could no longer care for him. He was VERY loved in his previous home and he’s a very sweet happy little guy. Wicket is still adjusting to being away from his mom that he’s known for all his life and is figuring this out. He does wonderful with the other small dogs in his foster home but doesn’t interact much with them as he’s always been an only dog. He's a pretty calm guy. To our knowledge he has not been around children, so he would need proper introductions. He is mostly potty trained but has to be watched as he does not signal when he needs to go outside. Most of his accidents are during the night and he is currently gated in the kitchen at night. He’s good on a leash as well. He's been used to having a fenced yard but would most likely be ok with no fence. He would have to get used to going potty on a leash, which can be a hard transition for some dogs, so this will need to be considered, and he would need time and patience to adjust to get him through the change. Wicket does have a little bit of anxiety due to his foster home having cats, but I believe he just gets over stimulated at times because of the cats. The cats tend to hide, and he knows that and gets anxious when he can’t see them, but he knows they are there. He’s very friendly with the cats, just wants them to be with him where he can see them. So, I would recommend he not go to a home with cats. When foster mom must run errands, he stays in the kitchen and settles down and goes to his bed after a few minutes. At the end of the day Wicket will lay next to you on the couch and snooze away. He would probably do best in a home with someone who is home often, as this is what he’s been used to. He is just the sweetest and would love to have his very own home again. If you are interested, complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.NeedyPaws.org and we will contact you. Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Wicket’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes.
