I am a timid and shy girl who is making tremendous progress living in a home with a loving family. I have learned so many things – the most important is to trust my people. My people have been very gentle and going slow with me and I have made a lot of progress. She gives me little massages on my head and back – it is so relaxing for me and my people. I have the softest coat and I think you will agree! I am a shy little girl, so having a confident dog in my forever home is required. Another dog will be helpful to show me the ropes, help me get on a routine and help me feel comfortable in my surroundings. Foster mom tells me with a little time and a lotta love, I will come out of my shell and be a great friend to my people. A lot of commotion worry me a bit, so I spend time in my comfy bed watching the activity in the house. Hopefully you have lots of comfy beds for me! Potty training is going great, my foster mom carries me outside and I am good about doing my business on a routine. While I will go potty on a leash, I don't know how to go for walks yet so will need a fence. Maybe there is another dog in the house to show me how to walk on a leash? Hopefully! Meet Jethro! He was a stray in Scott County before he came to SMART! Little did we know that he is just about full grown at 22lb! The vets put his age at 6-9 months old, and he is a snuggle bug who makes himself at home wherever he goes. He is a great boy who just needs to find his furever people. Is that you??

Meet Candy, as sweet as her namesake. She's a 2 year-old, 11-lb bundle of cuteness ready to steal your heart. Candy is a mixed breed pup estimated to be a terrier/sheltie mix.Candy loves hanging out with her people and getting pets and love as much as she gives it. She is very shy and anxious in new situations and would do best in a home that can give her slow introductions to new people and pets. Candy lives with senior dogs in her foster home. She would most likely flourish with a patient and affectionate small-breed dog to help build her confidence. Otherwise, she'd do well as a solo dog if given the attention she needs to come out of her shell. She loves to get her outdoor time, running circles around a fenced yard.Candy came to rescue with little training, but has made significant progress since being in her foster home. She is potty trained and does okay on a leash. She’s not very food motivated so lots of praise and positive reinforcement is key in teaching her new things!Candy has developed separation anxiety which is a work in progress. She will do best in a home where she can see her people throughout the day. Her forever home will be one that can accommodate these needs while continuing to improve on these behaviors. I’m Chester, a 6 year old - DOB 8/26/2018 - Pomeranian with a big smile and a laid back attitude.  I’m a bit overweight at 15 lbs but I’m up for walks to try to shed a few.  My odd little quirk is that I like to find strange out of the way places to sleep so I’m not a snuggler with my human friends. I’ll sit near you but not on your lap.  Other than being chubby I have a cough that my vet thinks is the start of a collapsing trachea. It can be managed with some cough pills and when you take me for a walk, I should have a harness instead of a collar. Foster mom has seen bursts of playfulness in me but mainly, I just like to chill out and roam around the yard. I get along with pretty much everyone I meet but I might be best in a quieter home that doesn’t expect me to be playful. I get a little grouchy when the younger animals try to play with me and will snap at them if they overstep my boundaries. Most of the time, I’m so quiet people forget I am even in the house unless someone opens the treat drawer. Then I come flying out of nowhere and flash my big smile knowing something yummy might be coming. I was found as a stray so my background is a mystery. Obviously, I was a loved pet for a few years but something must have happened to my human since I found myself on the street one day. Sometimes I appear potty trained because I will walk up to foster Mom and WOOF!
