Story
I'm a darling Pom, just looking for a loving home where I can land. I'll be neutered at the vet on Tax Day and ready to be someone's love bug the very next day. I can be pre-adopted and I've got a feeling my someone is out there just looking for me. Don't call - please just follow the instructions below if you are interested in adopting me. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2362001##

Story
Skye is a Pomsky, born appx Oct 2023.  Skye is looking for a home with a fenced yard and no children (older teens might be okay).  She's a little shy around kids and just not sure what to make of them.  She is very sweet and likes to give kisses to her people.  She knows some commands, knows how to fetch and enjoys being active.  She is leash trained and enjoys a walk now and then.  Skye would enjoy traveling the neighborhood on her own and would run out the door if given the opportunity - be sure to keep an eye on her when letting visitors in!  She definitely needs a secure fenced yard.  Skye needs her own space for dining so she knows that no one is going to take her food - same with treats.  She doesn't like to be left alone or kenneled, so it would be awesome if her person works from home or is not gone long hours of the day.  If left alone, she is not sure what to do or not do - she should probably be kenneled until you're able to teach her the lay of the land.  She won't have a problem being vocal and letting you know how she feels about things.  :)  We're not sure about potty training - she might need help with that.  She does have a little submissive urination. Skye has lots of love to share.  Please apply to adopt if you're that special person that has time and patience to help Skye with some training and give her a forever home. The suggested adoption donation for Skye is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. To learn about Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you.  Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost.  If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice.  If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses.  [Muddy Paws can also suggest a vet with a reduced cost for alters.]  All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.  All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.  Thank you in advance for your compliance. ##2366333##

Story
This is Pepper, she is a party pom that is 7 years old. we got her from a reputable breeder down in Texas. She loves to cuddle and go for walks. She is very sweet and loves everyone she meets. She knows basic commands like, sit, stay, no, inside, go to bed, leave it, no bark. she is a big sweetie that will leave you giggling with her silly personality. She is potty trained but does have accidents. she has all her shots and everything she needs for boarding or going to a dog park. We love this sweet girl but are unable to keep her due to unforeseen circumstances. also i would like to note that she is a 'Throwback Pom' so she is on the large size at 20 lbs.

Story
Guinness is the sweetest dog. He’s very gentle and loving, but he requires a ton of attention. Attention that unfortunately we can’t give him at our current stage of life. Without attention he becomes anxious and pees inside. He will throw other fits out of anxiety such as moving his food bowl all around the house, digging the floor, peeing and pooping around the house. With a ton of attention, these behaviors are less. We got Guinness from a pet store when he was six months old and have been his only owners. He will be 13 at the end of September. He is still very healthy, but does seem to have some hearing loss. We don’t really want to re-home him, but we know it’s not fair to him to keep him with us since he’s not getting the attention he needs and deserves. He needs a home where he is preferably the only pet and can be given a lot of attention.
