Story
Thor is currently heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment. He will need to return to NMDR for his scheduled care, and adopters must be committed to strictly following the treatment plan as outlined by NMDR veterinarians to ensure his full recovery. Meet Thor, a 6-year-old, 13-pound Pomeranian with a sweet and friendly personality. Thor may be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he feels comfortable, his gentle and affectionate nature shines through. He especially loves gentle petting and enjoys quiet affection from the people he trusts. Thor gets along well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions around him. He is comfortable wearing a leash, though it is still a fairly new skill for him, and he is continuing to learn how to confidently follow his handler during walks. Right now, Thor is also being treated for seizures and would do best in a calm, quiet household where he can feel safe and relaxed while continuing his care. With patience, understanding, and a loving home, Thor has all the potential to become a wonderful companion. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Sabino is undergoing heartworm treatment. She will need ongoing care and return trips to the NMDR clinic. Sabino is a 4-year-old, 26-pound husky who is very shy and timid around humans. She is still learning how to feel safe and comfortable in new environments and is just beginning to understand how to navigate walking on a leash or wearing harness gear. These are new skills for her, and she will need time, patience, and gentle encouragement as she continues to build confidence. She is sensitive and will need a calm, understanding adopter who is willing to move at her pace and slowly help her grow more secure in the world around her. Sabino is vocal and enjoys expressing herself, especially when playing with toys, which is one of her favorite activities. Sabino has had her left eye enucleated, but it does not slow her down or dampen her spirit—she continues to explore and engage with her environment in her own unique way. She seems to tolerate other dogs and can show initial excitement when meeting them, though due to her heartworm burden and overall sensitivity, she may do best in a calmer household setting. Sabino needs a secure, fenced-in yard to help keep her safe while she is learning leash skills and building confidence outdoors. This will give her a safe space to explore at her own pace while continuing to develop her trust and comfort with handling and walking. A meet and greet at the shelter is required to ensure it is a good match for all involved. Sabino is looking for a patient, compassionate home where she can continue to learn, heal, and grow at her own pace. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Story
Meet Roof, a 10-month-old Pomeranian/Husky mix weighing 24 pounds. Roof is still learning to trust people and can be shy when first meeting new faces, but with time, patience, and a gentle approach, his personality begins to shine through. He often looks to other dogs for reassurance and guidance as he continues building confidence in the world around him. Roof enjoys playing with toys and stuffed animals, and he finds comfort and fun in simple playtime activities. He is still learning how to navigate new experiences and will thrive in a home that understands his need for patience, consistency, and positive encouragement. For his safety and success, his future home must include another confident dog to help guide him and support his continued progress. A secure fenced yard is also required, giving him a safe space to explore, play, and build confidence at his own pace. He would also do best in a calm, patient home environment where he is given the time he needs to adjust and feel secure. We are currently working with Roof on handling exercises to help build his confidence, as well as leash skills to support his ongoing progress. A required in-person meet and greet is the best way to ensure a great match for both Roof and potential adopters. If you have the time, patience, and a steady canine companion to help him grow, we encourage you to come meet Roof and see if he’s the right fit. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet.
