Birdie is an older gentlelady, approximately 8ish years old. This girl is the sweetest little soul. She is good with male dogs, but she can be the dominant female. She would be alright with other females, but the other female must be submissive. Bird is barrier reactive, so although she is very sweet with those she knows, she can be a little intimidating at a fence. She would make a great watch dog but only if treated with love. Bird must be allowed to live inside with her person/family because she is very loyal and affectionate. Hey! I'm Ethel, an excitable and friendly girl. I came from the pound in hopes to get me adopted. The shelter isn't sure what breed I am but I look like a Pointer/Lab mix but a minature version. I weigh only 30 lbs and I am full grown. I get along well with others and would adapt to any home.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2297024##

Meet Oakley 7046 Oakley is one very handsome guy decorated with uniquely distinguishing Fox Hound color patterns and that extra-special crown chakra symbol of interconnectedness. He is in superb athletic condition: trim, svelte, and agile. At first meeting the photographer thought that he was only 2 years old, but his chip says that he has had 4-years of life experience. After the first 10 strides out of his kennel he walks nicely on leash. It may take a few minutes before he really becomes interested in you, but his focus and personality easily makes it worth the wait. Oakley loved “diving” into the shallow water of the pool for submerged hotdog treats. He really likes water (maybe his genetic mix is part Lab). Oakley was well cared for by his previous owners and will fit nicely into a loving family.
