Story
Meet Ryan, a sweet 4-year-old, 60-pound Pointer mix with a heart full of love! Ryan’s journey hasn’t been easy—he was at a Missouri shelter in July, facing euthanasia due to painful hip issues. We stepped in and brought him into rescue. Ryan had Femoral Head Ostectomies on both hips. The ball and neck of his femur were removed. Now, he’s pain-free and ready to live his best life! His muscles have formed a “false joint,” and he can do everything a normal dog can do! Though his DNA is likely a mix of many breeds, Ryan’s appearance screams Pointer, with a short, soft, and fluffy coat that’s as cuddly as his personality. Ryan is great with other dogs, especially the ladies, and he absolutely adores people. His favorite spot is his dog bed, where you’ll often find him sleeping on his back with all four paws in the air—too cute! He still thinks he fits perfectly in a lap and loves to cuddle up with his human friends. Ryan also enjoys walks and car rides, and above all, he simply wants to be with his people. Ryan would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can run, play, and enjoy life to the fullest. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who just wants to be by your side, Ryan is the dog for you! Ryan is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. He is very well house trained and is kennel trained. If you would like to meet Ryan please complete the adoption application on our website: furfunrescue.org. If you have any questions about Ryan you can email Rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Adoption fee: $300.00 Indoor homes only. Adopters must be in a 2 hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ace was born at his foster home on Halloween - after his mom Roxie (that came into the local Pound as a stray a few weeks earlier) suprised us all by have a large litter of 10 puppies!  While we had come to realize that Roxie was pregnant, and found a wonderful foster home for her to get settled into before having the puppies - her prenatal ultrasound had suggested she was carrying 7 or 8 puppies!  Roxie has been a wonderful mother to her large litter, but also seems happy that this will be her last litter!  We also were contacted by people that knew Roxie's original owner and they told us the father of this litter is a Pyrenees / Lab mix - so her 10 puppies do have the potential to be pretty large dogs, and two of the puppies do indeed have the double dew-claws that is common in the Pyrenees breed. Ace, which was the first puppy born in his litter, is now 6 weeks old (on 12/12/2024) and they have all recieved their first vaccinations and are microchipped .....so we can now be sure to tell them apart from each other correctly!  Once they are 8 weeks old, they will receive a second Distemper (DA2PP) booster vaccine, kennel cough vaccine, deworming, and monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. We anticipate this litter to be ready to go to their forever homes the first week of January! These puppies will be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract, which means their adoptive families will sign a contract stating the puppies will be spayed/neutered when they are a bit older and will be required to bring the puppy back to Safe Haven for us to spay/neuter when the puppy is between 6 to 9 months old, at no additional cost. The other option for each adoptive family would be to have the surgery done with their veterinarian at the family's own cost, and provide us proof of that surgery once complete. The ideal adoptive family will be committed to taking a puppy obedience class right away to get started on the right foot - they will need a family that can commit to continue proper socialization and also all the work that goes into house-training a puppy, which requires a lot of patience and persistence with working on a schedule. Puppies need to be taken outside frequently - as often as every 4 hours in the beginning. So an ideal home for these puppies will be one where they won't have long periods of time during the day spent alone during the first few months, so they can have the best chance of successful housetraining and have years of wonderful love and devotion to focus on! If you are interested in adopting Ace or one of his littermates please fill out an adoption application as the first step of the adoption process. The adoption application can be found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the application has been approved, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to set up the adoption. Interested in adopting this pet? Please click the adoption info link for more information.
