Story
Patches was abandoned with his littermates in the back roads of SE Missouri. On the ground rescuers were able to secure 6 of the 8 pups that were seen roaming. Patches was one of those picked up immediately. He is absolutely stunning in appearance, is filled with an abundance of affection towards people and loves to play and spend time with other dogs. He asks for pets and enjoys giving hugs. He has lived at the care center with his littermate Trooper after Trooper was captured and brought in from the fields. They are best buddies and have blossomed together over the months while sheltered. If you are looking for a friendly, outgoing companion, then Patches is your dog. Patches is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on HW preventative. If you would like to meet Patches, please complete an application at www.k9ei.dog

Story
Hi, I’m Lily! I’m a young pointer mix who is 48 lbs. I am still energetic but also affectionate with so much love to give. I recently made a life-saving journey from a Texas kill shelter to my foster family in Illinois, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this second chance after being dumped at 1 by my family in Texas for being too big. Despite my tough start, I’m full of resilience, charm, and excitement to meet my forever family. So far, I haven’t met many strangers outside of my foster family, but when I arrived, I was instantly curious and excited to introduce myself. My foster family includes an adult male, two adult females, a 4-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl. I get along with everyone, including the little ones who love to shower me with pets and scratches—as long as they’re gentle with me. I also share my home with two dog foster siblings—an older, bigger male dog and a younger, smaller female one. I love roughhousing and wrestling with both of them, but I need my family to help regulating my energy so playtime doesn’t get too rowdy. I enjoy chewing on toys and bones, but I like having my own space during chew time because I can get a little possessive because I’m still learning I will always have food. Sometimes, I do get jealous when I see my foster siblings getting attention, but a little reassurance is all I need to remember there’s plenty of love to go around. I need my family to understand I sometimes need to go slow until I fully know I am safe and loved. When I hear or see other dogs outside, I can’t help but bark and become intrigued. With a quick reminder that everything is ok, I’m back to minding my own business. Meeting new dog friends on a walk is the best way for me to slowly get to know them. Affection is my love language! I’m a total cuddlebug who loves giving hugs, resting my head on your lap or chest, sharing kisses, and snuggling up whenever I can. There’s no limit to the amount of love and cuddles I’m ready to share, so don’t hold back—I’ll return the favor. I can also relax on my own if you’re busy by napping nearby while you watch TV or work. But if you move, I’ll follow you everywhere like your shadow to keep you company. I need an active family to help me with daily exercise. A fenced yard would be amazing for running around and getting my zoomies out, and daily walks (or even runs) are a must for me! I’m still learning leash manners and sometimes pull because I’m so excited to explore. With patience and a few breaks to settle down, I know I’ll get the hang of it. I’d love to go on adventures in the car, play fetch in the yard, or just explore the world by your side. I’m working on basic commands like “sit,” “drop it,” and “off,” and I respond really well to treats, which makes training more fun for both of us. I’m a smart and eager learner, so with consistent guidance, I know I’ll keep making progress. I’m also working on being fully house-trained. I still have occasional accidents in my crate if left for a long time - I sometimes get scared no one is coming back. With consistent eating and potty schedule, I will improve every day. Positive reinforcement, like treats and praise for going potty outside, builds my confidence and keeps me motivated. I currently eat twice a day—in the morning and at night—in my crate to separate me from others. I also use my crate when no one is home and at bedtime (with a bed inside), and while it’s not my favorite place by any means (I sometimes complain for a few minutes but settle down), a treat or toy to distract me before going in helps me settle down. I’d thrive in a family that is home often and maybe another dog. I need someone who’s willing to invest time and patience I deserve in my ongoing training and learning. In return, I’ll fill your life with unconditional love, joy, and endless cuddles. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion to share your adventures and brighten your days, I just might be the perfect match! Apply to meet me today! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Click here for Ned's Facebook Album 12-14-2024: Please meet sweet, adorable Ned!! He is an owner surrender twice and we are on a quest to find him the best adoptive home. He is so charming, friendly and thankfully confident, not having suffered any abuse- just a little vetting neglect. Ned is about 18 months old and is already neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. We still need to do our obligatory blood work and get him microchipped. Ned is only 40lbs but he will need some basic obedience training as he is wired to pull a sled on a walk. We haven't tested his nose for birds, but hopefully soon. He was working on house training before he came to us. He is brilliant about jumping into a cage in a car which is helpful. What a magnificent little Pointer.
