Story
Star is the perfect addition to someone who wants the companionship of a dog without the addition of a big change to your day to day life. She isn’t going to disturb the peace, take your favorite spot on the couch, or insist that you become an avid runner so she can tag along. Star will quietly scooch in next to you, be happy to join you on walks around the neighborhood, and be a great playmate to your current dog if you are here as a canine matchmaker. One of my favorite things is how loving and sweet she is without being demanding or pushy. She likes to be close but won’t knock you over. She loves giving polite kisses, no whole-face messy moves here. Take a look and then come back to read more https://youtu.be/QaNmPwFrEMU Star has a quiet, almost shy approach to new experiences but she is est. to be only 1 year old, so the whole world is something to see and learn about. It doesn’t take her long to feel comfortable, especially with a little loving guidance by her person. She has great basic leash skills and takes her time to soak up the sights and sounds of her environment. It is very sweet to sit front row and see her enjoying something for the first time. Passing and meeting new dogs on leash is approached with calm interest and easy redirection if needed. When introduced to a handful of new dogs, Star met them each politely. As the group grew bigger and dogs began to pair up to wrestle and chase she was mindful not to be a third wheel. Having a few ball-loving fetch stars in the year that day, a couple tennis balls were added to the mix and she shared without any issue and showed us her budding fetch skills. At one point we though she was only 50% of the way to mastering fetch but she ended up showing us she is closer to 90%. The direct ball-to-hand move is that last 10%. It was easy to see that Star felt naturally at-ease with other dogs and would benefit from a playful, medium-energy doggy sibling in the home. We took Star inside to get out of the rain and have some couch time and she showed us that the couch is where she shines! She wasn’t sure about our rug, and comically tried to avoid it at first but eventually decided it was nothing to fear. I like to imagine she was playing the floor is lava rug edition. The couch was there the snuggly bugle in her came out and we didn’t want it to end. To add to her friendly nature, Star was very polite when she met our resident cat and we believe she could live peacefully with a feline friend. Her ideal home would be one with a slower pace, not slow, but a medium- energy lifestyle suits her personality. Another dog with a friendly and playful approach would be great and kids are welcome and we anticipate she would be appreciated most by slightly older kids who want a dog to snuggle and play fetch with while being gentle and patient with her as she learns about all the good-stuff that comes with being a family dog. She is no doubt an affectionate, playful, and loyal companion who will be a shining Star in your world. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option.
