Story
A volunteer dog walker shared this about Scarlett:Scarlett, a beautiful hound mix, was easy to leash and take to the play yard where she was playful and curious, nosing around to explore. She was dog friendly with other dogs at the fenceline to adjacent yards. Scarlett came up to me for attention, sat and gave gentle kisses. She met staff nicely indoors and took treats. Scarlett possibly is house trained, keeping her kennel clean inside and doing her business immediately when taken out. She walked nicely with tail wagging and was easily returned to her kennel.Scarlett would love to meet you, just head on over to the Westside shelter!

Good with dogs, Not good with cats, House-trained,
Story
WALTER came to us through a Rescue in Arkansas when they found him dumped at 6 weeks old by his unscrupulous GREEDER who believed him to be blind (-aka-worthless). He was pulled by the Rescue, examined by a veterinarian who also confirmed his "blindness". Once we were able to accept him at PDR, he was vaccinated, neutered after a coordinated transportation effort with volunteers, he was drive to our ranchette in southern New Mexico on July 10, 2021!! NOTE: Aside from his various veterinarian examinations, our personal experience with blind and limited vision dogs and personal observation -- the second we saw him and held him we knew HE WASN'T (AND ISN'T) BLIND! Yes, his eyes are a little dull, but after 3 years, there are no signs of cataracts or gleucoma!! House trained, doggy door trained, pee pad trained, knows his commands (sit/stay), is leash trained, rides well in the vehicle, socialized with large and small dogs. *** WALTER DOES NOT LIKE CATS ***. Children do not live or visit here, however, calm, older, well behaved, respectful children should be ok. *WALTER IS TERRIFIED OF LIGHTNING AND THUNDER AND FIREWORKS. We usually give him a Benadryl in peanut butter (pb is his favorite treat and also loves cheese) about an hour before, leave all lights and tv's on and he will say in his bed of want to stay by my side or around other doggies. He should not be left alone. He is current on vaccinations and is microchipped. WALTER KNOWS HIS NAME and has had it for 3 years. He is medium energy but still loves to run and play and rough and tumble in our very large dog yard with the other large dogs. We are in the southern NM outskirts, so everything is dirt and dirty! He loves other dogs, however, he has moments of feeling overwhelmed with our ever changing rescue and sanctuary dogs and their various energy levels (and sheer numbers at times) , he would do better with a couple of fur buddies and definitely time with his human. He is very attached to men, particularly, but loves that one on one time connection. He lives in the country, but in a safe, fenced, controlled environment as an inside dog and part of the family. Like all of our adoptions and because we know our doggies so well, we match our dog's personality and energy level to the adopter's lifestyle and living situation. Walter, particularly, thrives on the companionship of "his" human and deserves to be in a furever home with a large fenced yard, be taken for daily walks (at a fast pace) or jogs, play, and enjoy snuggling in a bed covered in blankets! He would be well suited and a lot more "chill" and comfortable in a home with a lot less dogs or commotion at times, like our sanctuary. He LOVES one-on-one interaction and connecting with his "human". Walter does not receive human food, nor does he have any rawhides and meat products, as they are not allowed in our rescue and sanctuary for the safety and health of the dogs. (We encourage you to read the ingredients of a raw hide product.) We encourage sleepovers with pre-approved adopters. Please contact us with questions, if you would like to schedule a meet n greet with Walter, or if you would like us to email our adoption application to you! Puppy Dog Ranch Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) small Mom & Pop nonprofit charity since 2009 rescuing, finding homes for and providing lifetime sanctuary care for blind, deaf, special needs and senior dogs and puppies.
