Story
I`m in a FOSTER HOME! If you`d like to meet me, please email my foster parent at julz711@gmail.comMeet Chica, the sweetest little cinnamon roll with a deceptively frowny face. After being abandoned at a bike rack and spending a few anxious months in the shelter, this gentle lady is finally blossoming in her foster home – and she couldn`t be happier to have a warm, safe place to wait for her forever family.Miss Chica has impeccable manners. She is making good progress on potty training, and is a quiet, gentle lady. She picks up cues readily and is eager to expand her vocabulary. When her foster mom is busy, she contentedly entertains herself with a bone. The only mischief she`s likely to get into when left alone is sneaking into the human bed for a nap.She is working on building up her confidence on walks in the bustling city, but once she gets going, she’s a loose-leash pro. She hasn`t met dogs, cats, or kids yet, so slow introductions would be best to make sure everyone is comfortable and confident! While her serious expression may make you think she’s all business, Chica is starting to show hints of a goofy side. She’ll joyfully galumph after balls and nudge for pets when she`s in the mood for scritches. Most of the time though, Chica is happiest curled up next to you on the couch, snoring the day away. She is truly a snuggly, affectionate pup who can’t wait to finally have a home to call her own.

Scooby (A549258)Gorgeous young dog looking for a home where he can learn, gobble up treats, spend quality time with his human, and photo bomb all your pictures with his gorgeous smile!Scooby was easy to leash. Scooby was a bit timid coming out of his kennel, but I walked him on his third day at the shelter so he may have been adjusting. The minute Scooby got outside he did this cute little hop as if he were jumping for joy! When we were walking around, Scooby walked quickly with a graceful, prancing gate, but he barely pulled (I was moving slowly). It was the sweet, exuberant half-pull of a dog who just can`t wait to go on his morning walkies. Scooby enjoyed all the pets I gave him, but I let him spend most of his time moving around and exploring. He may benefit from regular exercise with his new family, and who knows, he might enjoy jogging with you!Scooby is a young dog, he is very food motivated, and gave the impression that he would be a fast learner in any training classes. Once or twice Scooby jumped up, looking for treats in my pouch, but it was in a very gentle manner. When I put my hand into the treat pouch, Scooby immediately sat down, which indicates he has had some previous training and that he has excellent manners. One time he laid down for a treat. When Scooby saw another dog he seemed curious, so he may be dog friendly. Scooby`s picture does not do him justice. He is gorgeous! His tail is large and when he holds it high it has a perfect curve that accentuates his graceful, prancing gate. His coat has a wonderfully subtle brindle coloring.Come and meet Scooby soon!

Story
Moose is about a 1 1/2 year old Catahoula / Border Collie mix. My wife and I adopted him from a shelter in Louisiana. Due to the nature of our limited living space and the noises of the big city, he hasn't adjusted very well, and we feel it is best to provide Moose with a home with a big yard in a calmer environment. Moose is a bundle of energy and is always looking to play, and at night he's quite the cuddle bug. He can be a bit rough during playtime and forget how big he is sometimes. He's very curious and likes to stick his snout in every nook and cranny he can find. He is somewhat housetrained. He will sometimes ask to go use the bathroom outside, but other times, like when he's distracted or is playing, he will have accidents in the house. Because Moose is still relatively new to us, we have limited his exposure to other dogs/animals. In the few experiences he had with other dogs, he got very excited and displayed no signs of fear and/or aggression.

Story
Rye is searching for her forever home as the only animal so that she can soak up all the attention from her humans! RYE'S STORY FROM OUR DIRECTOR: Rye was brought up to the DMV Region from a Texas shelter in 2020. I was working for another rescue at the time, running the transport/foster program, and offloaded her myself when she arrived. She fit into the palm of my hand she was so small and only a few weeks old. She was adopted immediately, incorrectly labeled as a chihuahua mix. Unfortunately, 7 months later, her family returned her due to the combination of the pandemic and how "big" she got (she's only 40 lbs but they were expecting an 8 lb Chi-Mix!). Unfortunately from there, Rye was bounced around from foster to foster and boarding facilities until 2021 when the previous rescue felt it was best to euthanize her. I couldn't let that happen so I adopted her with the intention of finding her a home! I renamed her to Rye (named for the kind of whiskey) and started working on training with her. She was our first intake when I co-founded Laila's Legacy in 2023 and we've been working to find her a home since then. RYE IN THE HOME / HER PERFECT FIT: Rye has the funniest personality. She's got energy, bounciness, and is so inquisitive. She's also insanely smart. The latter is a blessing and a curse because she learns training so quickly, has great recall (although I've never allowed her to be off-leash just long-lines for hikes/walks), and learned leash walking skills very quickly. On the flip side, she needs a lot of mental stimulation to keep that big brain happy! I've found it really can be a mix of things to do that though - sitting outside on the stoop to people watch from my house, sitting in a park with her practicing neutrality (and getting treats of course) while I read, practicing all her tricks, working on recall on a long-line, playing tug/fetch, brain games and puzzle toys, you name it. Anyone that is excited to go on walks and spend time with their dog - have a companion - will love Rye. She just wants to hang with her humans and get some mental stimulation while she does it. In late 2021, Rye started urinating in her crate. An odd behavior because she's very potty trained and crate trained. In early 2022 she had a seizure and it was then we discovered she was having mini-seizures causing her to urinate in her crate. Unfortunately, they do still occasionally happen but she takes a once daily med called Keppra which is easy to get from Chewy and she LOVES peanut butter so she takes it every day without issue. I've seen the crate urination drastically reduce and when I was working from home full-time it was non existent because she was hanging with me outside of the crate so much. Rye's intelligence comes from her breed - likely Catahoula or some sort of herding breed. That's where her prey drive comes from as well so she'd prefer a home without cats! When it comes to her relationship with dogs, she loves to play. She'll play with mine and have a grand ol' time romping around with them. Because of her herding tendencies she's been muzzle trained as well for playing and has a cute bright pink muzzle for when it's needed and she wears it with ~style~. In the home, Rye will guard her items from other dogs. This could include food, toys, bed, etc. so for her sake we recommend she not go to a home with dogs in it. But honestly, that will also be a win-win because she LOVES her humans so fiercely and wants to be your companion that it'll let her have all the one-on-one time she and her future owner will love. Rye has been through a training program and her trainer loves her. Rye's future forever family will be connected with that trainer for a "Rye 101 Course" on her training and are highly encouraged to do more sessions and continue to build her education! While I adore Rye with my whole heart, and have been honored to spend so much time with her, it's time for this sweet gal to find her forever home and get OUT of the rescue world! She deserves to be the spoiled queen she wants to be and I can' t wait to see that for her! Please check out her video at here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Oz8dKkj64 ------------ Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained. We strive to provide accurate information on all of our animals however, we are unable to guarantee an animal's breed, size, health, behavior, temperament, or any other conditions.
