Story
5 year old Keisha is a shelter sweetheart. She is a shepherd mix weighing 52 lbs and she is full of affection. Keisha was originally found chained up, malnourished covering a hole she’d dug to protect her young pups. All of Keisha’s pups have since been adopted and all have done extremely well – very loving dogs, who exceeded all expectations after a tough start in life. After Keisha was rescued they learned she was not only hungry but blind – likely at the hands of human poisoning. As her pups grew they would guide her on walks making sure she came along for the adventure. Since their adoption, Keisha has taken newly abandoned pups under her wings making them feel safe and loved. Keisha is healthy and would just love her own family who will love her and give her the affection she deserves. She is currently at the SPCA PV sanctuary in Mexico, and will be able to fly to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton (possibly also Vancouver island) or Seattle in fall when flights resume. Story
Beautiful husky girl Chiquita, born April 2023, is looking for a home. She is approximately 41 lbs. Her mum and littermates were often seen wandering in the area of the SPCA PV sanctuary and staff and volunteers saw them in deteriorating condition due to a diet heavy on garbage and took them in to give them the care they needed. After she got refuge in the sanctuary, she lived through a hurricane which heavily damaged the shelter, and she had temporary refuge in a home that unfortunately had a landlord that didn't allow dogs.. but in that time, she learned what a home is and what it is meant to be loved. Chiquita is an energetic girl so she’d love a yard with some space to burn off some zoomies but was in a foster home in an apartment. She loves the beach. Her foster mom just loved her, described her as a fast learner, and a great cuddler. She has learned basic commands - sit, come, waits to eat her food. She isn't destructive in the home and did well in the car. She is selective with other dogs, and can be reactive, and would squabble with her siblings. Kids make her nervous so she'd prefer a quiet adult home where she can learn more about the world. Chiquita would be best in a home without cats as she shows high prey drive. This sweet lady is looking for her new home. She will require someone with previous dog experience and who has an active but structured home. She has the potential to be a great family dog with kiddos over the age of 12 years old. She is looking to be the only fur baby in the home, no other dogs or small animals/cats in the home. She would enjoy a fully fenced back yard to play in and taking daily leash walks with her people. She will require a basic manners or private training class at the time of her adoption.
