Story
Backstory for Lady Samantha Lady Samantha found herself in an overcapacity animal control facility that euthanizes due to lack of space. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to pull her to safety to give her a second chance at life. _____________________ Get to Know Lady Samantha age: 7 breed: Pekingese weight: approximately 9-10 Vaccines and treatments: Rabies Bordetella DHPP, part one and two Dewormer Flea/tick prevention Other tests and procedures: Heart worm test - negative Spay surgery Tested and treated for lyme Eye enucleation - performed after she was attacked by a large dog prior to being in our care Additional procedures and care: • Microchipped • Dental • Bloodwork - Overall normal ranges. Some were very slightly elevated levels initially due to skin infection. WBC count now normal. Kidney levels should be checked in 6 months to confirm her skin infection has healed. Veterinary care costs given to Lady Samantha by Animal Saints Rescue Society, based upon NYC area pricing, is $2,700+ Requested adoption donation fee is only $750. This is to partly cover her lifesaving expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to give her a second chance at life. __________________ Breed and Hair Notes Lady Samantha has the perfect Pekingese fur. The shedding is very minimal, and she loves the attention when she’s brushed. Samantha has been treated for severe skin infection. Her hair is growing in beautifully, and her skin is looking so healthy now. We are making her a freshly cooked salmon recipe, and it is helping her heal. Some form of salmon or food that keeps skin healthy is needed longterm. ___________________ Personality Lady Samantha’s presence fills the room! She is sweet, smart, spunky, yet laidback all at once. She is ready to greet any kind human with a warm greeting, and she wants to make friends immediately. Samantha, or Sammy, rightfully has some trust issues with other dogs right now. She lost one eye being attacked by a large dog before coming into our care. Because of this history and past trauma, she greets many dogs with a quick bluster, just to let them know she’s not going to be bullied by them. Once she realizes that a dog isn’t going to hurt her, she can peacefully be with them. She’s made friends with our laidback fosters Stanley, Toby, and Kacey. They now enjoy their outdoor time together, and she enjoys sprinting with Stanley. In time, we can see her playing with other dogs. With Lady Samantha’s history in mind, she should only be placed in a home with other laidback Saints and ones that won’t mind her being the leader. Sammy would also be content as the only dog in a home and would quite like being the center of attention. Lady Samantha goes potty outside as well as potty on pads indoors. She will adjust to your schedule. Samantha is an expert walker, and she’s very smart. She knows sit, stop, look, here, dance, and she can walk with a loose leash. We are just starting to teach her “down.” We expect the training to be continued in her lifetime home with professional certified positive reinforcement training classes. Lady Samantha really does LOVE to go for walks! But don’t take our word for it. See Samantha on a walk and a training session in this short film: https://vimeo.com/1177873761 Ideal Home Lady Samantha will especially thrive in a home that can give her companionship day and night. She would be okay for a few hours on her own, but she is truly in want of being around someone most of the time. Samantha is a terrific office assistant. She “helps” us with our work during the day. She likes to sit on the chair next to us or nap in a big dog bed by our feet. She is not clingy, but she does love to be right by your side. She wants to know what the people are doing, and she appreciates being included. Older children are case by case — only those who have experience living with dogs, understand dog behavior, and have great respect and love for them will be considered. An adult only home is ideal. Quiet and calm humans are really what Samantha needs in order to flourish. Absolutely no crates for Samantha. If they are a must for your lifestyle, then she is not for you. Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Sammy. She will want to be by your side. She loves to cuddle and is very quick to offer her belly for scratches. ___________________ Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need. Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!March 28, 2026, 6:05 pm
