Story
Hi! My name is Farrah and I am from Iowa. I am a female Pekingese. I am being surrendered by a breeder. My age is not known at this time, but I am an adult. I look forward to learning all about living in a home with a family, and I would do best in a foster home with another friendly dog to show me the ropes! From her foster: Farrah is the cutest dog with a sassy attitude! You just want to pick her up and cuddle and kiss her....but that isn't where Farrah is at all! She loves her head scratched. I wonder sometimes if she would love a cat tower for as much as she loves to rub her head of my legs :). She doesn't like to be held but is happy to sit next to me and have me occasionally pet her. My favorite part is when I talk to her she tilts her head back and forth as if she understands everything I say. Farrah has been riddled with medical issues since I got her. She needs to be carried up and down stairs as she does have a knee issue and isn't very sturdy on stairs. She isn't a fan of being picked up by everyone either so it has been a challenge. She is mostly potty trained... I believe the accidents have been when she was sick and couldn't help it. Farrah loves consistency! She will bark at all new guests especially men. She continues to bark for quite some time before settling down. She has no interest in others even petting her. She is warming up finally to others in my household as she will go up and sniff them but does typically walk away before they can pet her. Farrah is very timid/shy girl. She doesn't need a lot of exercise due to her knee issues. She is ok on a leash but doesn't like to walk a lot and unsure if that is pain so I don't push her. She does fine with other dogs (currently 2 other fosters and 2 resident dogs) but she prefers dogs that stay out of her space and are more at the low energy level. If they get in her space she will quickly tell them she is the queen! She sleeps on the couch just fine without making a peep. She has no interest in being in a crate and has not been destructive at all when left at home while I am gone. I do believe she would do best with someone that is home often as she does look and follow me everywhere. Farrah likely had to fight for food in her previous life. She does have some resource guarding issues when it comes to giving treats (her favorite chicken and cheese slices). I do free feed here at my home to prevent that issue with their regular food. She does guard all of her bones as well. She loves chewing bones and as long as I give her one to chew in a space of her own she is fine. I have lots of bones for the dogs to choose from to keep her busy as well.

Story
Hi! My name is Walrus and I am from Iowa. From his foster: Walrus is the most sweetest pup but very fearful and high anxiety for such a young pup. He bonded very quickly with me but he has not opened up to bond with anyone else in my household or any other visitors. He will stand straight as a board and not even look at anyone else if they attempt to hold him. He sits at my feet all day long and/or cuddles up in a ball next to me. Due to his fear and anxiety I would strongly suggest his adopter be home most of the time. He appears to have lived in a crate for his first 4 months of his life and has no interest in going back in one right now but has done just fine left out for short periods of time and at night with things to occupy him. Walrus gets along with other dogs (currently 2 other fosters and 2 resident dogs) all similar size but he does get moments of puppy energy that not all enjoy like biting. He enjoys running in the yard but is fearful of loud noises like a lawn mower. He has his special underbite which doesn't stop him from enjoying his favorite activity chewing bones! He does have issues picking up some treats so I do make them very small pieces for him. Walrus is not fully house trained. Most of that I attribute to him being sick when he first arrived he was really sick. I have him on a very consistent schedule and he does good now.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This cutie is Snickers. We think he was dumped  with several other dogs like him. He is a very timid boy who needs a lot of work in the confidence department. Right now he is not comfortable accepting pets from his foster mom but is starting to accept treats from her. He likes to be near his people but is working on touch being okay and comfortable for him.  He does good with other dogs and would do best in an adoptive home with another confident dog present to help him feel more comfortable.  He does howl when not near another dog or human so no shared walls for him. He is working on potty training.  Snickers is a flight risk and will need an adoptive home who can keep him safe and secure at all times, he must always be leashed when outdoors, even if in a fenced in area. Snickers would do best in an adult only home that is a relaxed calm environment.  Snickers is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 14, 2024, 9:59 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       DOB: 12/07/2022 Requires another dog in home: Yes, another well-balanced dog is required Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: No Weight: 10 pounds Food Fed: Solid Gold Requires a fenced yard:  Yes, required Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hi, my name is Corbin and I am a very shy and timid young guy that is ready to find my forever people with patience, toys and lots of love to help me be the best I can be! I’m very afraid of being touched by humans but I do love them.  Over the past few months, foster mom has been working with me on getting used to touch. She can now hold me and put me in her lap and I know I am safe.  I give her smiles and tail wags.  I’ve been brave enough to lick my foster mom’s hand but I’ll run away if you try to hold me or pick me up.  that whole picking me up thing makes me nervous and I panic, but I do enjoy gentle scratches.  With time, lots of patience and love, I’ll get there.  I’m getting a little better every day but when things are scary, they’re really scary! You have to understand that I likely have never been in a loving home so sounds like the TV, clanking dishes, the horrible vacuum and lots of commotion might make me a little worried. I have shown foster mom that I do have some puppy antics in me, hee hee! I like to play with soft toys, run around the yard and wrestle with the other dogs in my foster home. So, it’ll be important that I have a good doggy role model in my forever home to help me learn that touch isn’t scary and keep learning. A social, well-balanced and confident dog is required. This means that my buddy will need to show me humans are safe, how to get on a potty routine and teach me which toys are the best! My fur-brother and the other dogs in my foster home have been amazing teachers! I am still working on my dog skills like potty training. We go outside on a routine, but I will still need of practice in my forever home. Foster mom wants to let you know that I am smart – I already know what “go potty” means! We tried kennel training, and oh boy, I will tell you how much I don’t like it! Bark bark! Foster mom uses gates for the dogs when she isn’t home. I also bark at her when she comes home – maybe I’m telling you I’m glad you’re home, or maybe I’m filling you in on what happened when you were away!  Also, a fenced yard is required as I don’t have a leash or tie-out experience. This is very important for potty training too. My foster mom said I’m fun, adorable, learns quickly and likes to play with other dogs and that I play hard!  Oh and that I have a wonderful appetite! I will let you know with a bark bark that I am excited for dinner! I’m just an overall, very happy dog who loves the feel of the sun on my face when I’m sitting outside, other dogs and treats.  All I need now is a forever home with lots of patience, unconditional love and a family that will help me be the best I can be! Foster mom says that with time I will learn to trust – we are taking baby steps. Will you take those baby steps with me? Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a  particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there, I’m Dwight, a fluffy little BichonPoo with a big heart and a zest for life! At just a year old and 14 pounds, I’m still learning the ropes but making big strides every day. My foster mom says I’m cuddly, and I have to agree—I love resting my head on her shoulder whenever I get the chance. Once I learn you are someone I can trust, we can be friends. My favorite things? Walks, treats, and romping around with my foster sister! I’m pretty polite with other dogs we meet on walks, and though I can be shy with people at first, I’m working on it. My confidence is building, especially when I’m with a calm, friendly dog I can follow. I do require another confident and social dog in my forever home so I can continue learning all the important dogs things, including trusting people. I’m learning a lot in my foster home. We are working on “Come” and “Down.” I’m doing great with potty training on a schedule and can even use a potty pad if needed. I’m not really into crates, but I do well on a leash—even if I get a bit excited sometimes and pull a little. When I'm outside, I need to be on a leash for extra safety, but I'm getting better at coming back from the fenced yard into the house without any trouble. I'm a great eater and a bit mischievous, which adds to my charm. In the mornings, I love to wake up my foster parent by licking their ear—I'm such a sweetheart! A calm home with gentle, understanding people would be perfect for me, especially if there’s another dog my size to help me feel secure. Oh, and I do best when things aren’t too loud or chaotic. I’ll bark if other dogs pass by our yard, but just a gentle reminder, and I’ll quiet down. So, if you’re looking for a lovable and shy guy with a big heart and a curious spirit, I think we’d make a pretty great team! With patience and love, I'll continue to grow more confident. I'm a wonderful dog who just needs a little extra time and care to fully blossom.   * Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.
