Story
Winky is a 2 year old pekingese that was rescued from a yucky backyard breeder situation in Arkansas. Despite a rough start in life, she is an absolute DELIGHT. She is still learning how to be in a home and is very puppy-like exploring everything. She is incredibly agile for a peke and loves her toys and her foster siblings.   Winky is about 10lbs.  She is scared/timid around men.    Winky is getting the hang of crate training for meals and when the foster mom has to be away from the home, but is doing great. Potty training is still a work in progress, but if she has other resident dogs to help show her the ropes that will make the transition easier for her in her forever home. Winky currently shares the bed with everyone at night and does not have accidents overnight, or when left in her kennel. Her foster mom works from home a few days a week and is able to let dogs out over lunch on office days. This seems to work well for Winky, but she would do well in a number of home situations. Winky is a bit of a velcro dog and loves to follow her foster mom everywhere and tends to be underfoot - so she is a bit of a tripping hazard!    Winky would prefer a home with another dog companion. She has not been around cats, but does chase the resident chickens quite a bit, so cats might be a no go for her. Unless your cat likes to play with dogs. A fenced yard is required for Winky.    Winky does have a congenital eye disorder called Microphthalmia. Her left eye is essentially non-functioning, but is currently healthy. If she develops eye infections in the future she might need to have the eye removed, but lots of dogs with this condition do not need further intervention until later in life when glaucoma or other issues that tend to arise.    To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $450 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs.  We do not ship dogs.   All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.March 20, 2026, 6:05 pm

Story
Please contact Rose (japchinrose@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Summer came from a bad backyard breeder/puppy mill.  Fortunately, she is doing well in her foster home and learning how to be a house dog. She is around 10 lbs and only about 18 months old, so learning things fast! Summer can be a bit shy around new people, but she bonds very quickly with people she knows. She follows her foster mom all over the house and likes other dogs and the cats. She is surprisingly agile for a Pekingese and likes to jump on the back of the chair to look outside. Her housebreaking is going very well, and she hasn't had an accident since her first day. She sleeps all night in her crate with no accidents, but wants you to be outside with her when she goes potty. Summer is still learning how to walk on a leash, so a fenced yard might be better for her to go potty. Like all flat-faced dogs, she will need her wrinkles kept clean and wiped so the hairs don't irritate her eyes. Summer loves to sit next to you when you work, so someone home during most of the day or works from home would be ideal. Summer is learning about toys and chew toys, but mostly just likes being near you. Also, did I mention she snores?  Summer is scared of men.  To help cover vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc.), a $425 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, a home visit, a reference check, an obedience training agreement, and the signing of the adoption contract.
