Adoption Donation   $399 Located:  RI  Age: approx. 10 years old as of 10/1/2024 Weight: 11  lbs.     Meet Maddie, an adorable, friendly Pekingese girl who is full of love! Around ten years old and weighing just eleven pounds, she was sadly found wandering the streets of Pawtucket. Fortunately, when no one claimed her, the shelter reached out to us. One of our wonderful fosters quickly brought this sweet girl into a warm, loving temporary home.   Maddie is looking for the perfect forever home. She thrives with another well-behaved dog but can equally shine as the only pet in a loving household.  Her loving nature shines through as she is completely devoted to her humans. When you sit down, she’ll be right there ready to snuggle on your lap. She loves attention and will nuzzle her way in if you’re petting another dog. She’s a real cuddle bug!   A fenced yard would be a fantastic fit for Maddie, allowing her the freedom to roam and do her business. She is great with older children, but we haven’t seen her interact with toddlers yet. Maddie craves companionship and will follow you around, making a fenced yard a safety must, as she can be quick to dart outside! She does need to go to the bathroom frequently, so a home where she isn't left alone for long hours would be ideal. Maddie is pee-pad trained as a backup.   She settles in well for car rides and absolutely adores her walks and is eager to meet everyone along the way! She may not be a toy enthusiast, but she lights up when her neighbor’s dog comes over, bringing out her playful side as they chase and fetch toys together.   There are a few important health details to consider: Maddie had spay surgery and had four non-cancerous mammary masses removed in late August. There is still one small mammary tumor left that doesn’t require immediate attention. She has a grade 4-5 heart murmur and is on lifelong heart medication. Additionally, she takes anti-seizure medication, which will need a re-evaluation after a year. She is currently on the waiting list for dental work, which will be funded by FOHA.   Maddie is a truly special girl who deserves a loving home where she can thrive. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt.  From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit.  If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Your adoption fee helps to cover the cost of all age appropriate vetting and transportation. CHARLIE & CARTER are brothers that are 4 years old with CHARLIE being the biggest at 17 pounds and CARTER is 14 pounds. I would love for the them to be adopted together as they have spent their entire life together and really love each other and enjoy playing with each other. VERY BONDED PAIR Their adoption fee is $400 each. They walk very well on a leash and ride in the car without getting sick. Just two well behaved dogs that deserve a loving home.
