Story
From Bruce’s Foster mom: Bruce is a 4-year-old neutered male terrier/patterdale mix. He has been my Foster for a week. It’s always hard to figure out a dog’s personality when they are stressed moving from home to shelter then to a Foster. Here are my observations. Positive qualities – Bruce is a friendly dog. He is interested in people and dogs when walked greeting everyone with a tail wag. He adapted quickly to the three adults in our household. He is a quick learner and very intelligent. He knew the lay out of the house and yard in a short time. He enjoys lounging on the couch and is not hyperactive but that being said he can easily go for a 2-3 mile walk and thrives on exercise. He enjoys squeaky toys and chasing squirrels and tennis balls in the yard. He is a good watch dog and will bark if he thinks there is someone at the door but is not an incessant barker. He is very gentle when taking treats and I have not seen any food aggression. While with us he slept on the couch and went outside to the bathroom. When left alone he has not exhibited any separation anxiety but he does tend to follow the humans from room to room. Negative qualities - Bruce exhibits some stress related behaviors. He does not like vacuum cleaners, steam mops, and hair dryers. He was able to be bathed at the groomers but not dried or given a clipping due to anxiety. He exhibits this by peeing. Despite being very intelligent Bruce has not been trained. He does not follow commands such as sit and he does pull on the leash. Bruce appears to bond with men (owner was a man). Overall, Bruce is a young energetic dog who seems to prefer men. He would do great with an owner who was not gone all day and had time to take him for long walks. Being so intelligent I think Bruce could be trained on basic commands and leash walking. He will be a loyal pet, and I hope he finds the forever home that he deserves.
