LOOKING FOR A LOVING HOSPICE HOME:  Approx. 13 years old / Approx. 19 lbs.  Hi, I’m Nitro!  My foster says that I’m a sweet and loyal senior companion who has the cutest white eyebrows and brown Yoda ears, a wiggle butt with an adorable nub tail, and a happy, curious, and silly personality. I was adopted for about 3 years but came back to Mostly Mutts due to being protective of my mom and biting the grandson. I don’t really recall the circumstances of that, but I have not shown that behavior in my foster home and my foster will be happy to talk to you about how great I’m doing in their home.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I have previously wanted to be an only dog as I showed resource guarding, but in my foster home I’m living with 2 calm larger dogs, and I’ve done well with them after a proper introduction.  As my health declines, I should only be with 1 or maybe 2 other dogs that are low energy, calm, and will not knock me over or sniff me too much. So, if you have a dog that sounds like this, we could meet and see how we do together.  I love human attention, so I wouldn't mind being your only dog either. / No cats please. / No kids please due to the bite in my former home. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m very devoted, loving, and sweet to my people! I’ll do best in a home where there are not too many new people coming and going because it can take a little bit for me to warm up to new folks. But once I trust you, I will nudge you to keep petting me if you stop, climb into your lap to kiss your face, and follow you everywhere around the house. I am a huge lovebug!  When I lived at the MM shelter, I was very overwhelmed/stressed with the number of people I was exposed to each day, so I had a few favorite people and there were a few bites when others came up to us suddenly.  Again, I haven’t shown any of this in my foster home.  I have a bit more weakness in my back legs and find myself a bit more tired these days so please have multiple dogs beds around the home for me to nap in.  I’m looking for a peaceful, loving and patient home where I can rest and be pampered during my final years or months – whichever it will be. / My energy level is 3-4 and a bit higher if there is food involved! I get SO excited for food and will perk up my ears, do my tippy-tappy dance as best I can, and wiggle my entire behind whenever I hear the slightest crinkle of any bag, so cute!                           • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am very food motivated and am an expert at sitting, and I will offer a sit to you anytime I think you have treats. I will come when you shake a bag of treats. My foster mom is working with me on not jumping up and the stay command. When I lived at the shelter, I knew more commands, but I’m happy with the ones I remember now, and I don’t worry about the others. / I've not loved the crate in the past, but I do great in a secure pen or a small room when you need to leave me alone. / I have good potty manners in my foster home on a schedule. During the day I can hold it up to 4 hours, and at night I hold it all night for 8 hours!     • LIKES/DISLIKES:  My two favorite things are eating food and being petted by my people. I also love short trots around the yard, bones, car rides, and fuzzy blankets! I enjoy looking out windows and rolling around in the grass too. I have a great nose and love to sniff around in the yard or play with puzzle toys inside.  I am curious about sights, sounds, and smells on my walks in the neighborhood or at the park with my foster.  My foster takes me out in a dog stroller so I can still have great adventures without walking too far. / I don’t like meeting people too quickly, so it is best to give me a little time to get to know you. Let me come to you instead of reaching for me. I will also bark at loud cars that pass by on walks, though I don’t bark much otherwise. I can't do stairs that well. I can manage a few, but if there is an entire flight of stairs, you'll have to pick me up which I have been fine with in my foster home. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and attention, too. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I have a collapsing trachea so I should take shorter walks, led with a harness not a collar.  I should also not be walked much when it’s hot outside - just to go to the potty or to a cool stream. I’ve been diagnosed with Cushing’s. I’ll need annual testing for Cushing’s, and I had that in Feb. 2024, so that test is coming up again.  I am also being monitored for my liver function.  I several medications, all quite easily for my foster! Just ask about these.  If you’re looking for a devoted dog and have a nice peaceful home environment and want to give an old dog a wonderful end of life type home, we could be a good match!  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 25, 2025, 8:59 am

Story
A SWEET SENIOR COMPANION:  Approx. 10 years old / Approx. 26 lbs.  Hi, my name is Meeko!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and have been soaking up the love from the dedicated volunteers and in my foster home ever since!  I can’t remember how I ended up at animal control, but I’m thrilled to get a new chance to find a loving home and family – hopefully soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and did not like them, so I want to be your only dog. / Cats unknown. / I met a nice boy and a girl around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and was nervous around them, and I have been a bit nippy when frightened in the past, so kids 15+ may be a good match for me.  Let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m described as a sweet, gentle, fun-natured and playful, spunky guy.  That’s right, I still have a spring in my step at 10 years old!  I enjoy cuddling/snuggling with my people and will climb right into your lap if you let me!  I’m not shy and can be vocal when I want your attention, so condo or apartment living would likely not be a good fit for me.  I was also not shy about showing my elation, with grateful sighs of appreciation during my shelter bath.  I am a smart and friendly guy who is sure to bring joy to my new home! / My energy level is 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I have already shown that I know several commands: ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’ and ‘come’.  I am treat-motivated and love to please, so I bet you can teach me even more! / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / My potty habits have been pretty good on the shelter schedule, though I occasionally have a larger accident, so just ask how this has been going. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like to spend time with the volunteers and have fun play sessions with them, especially in the MM play yard, and it’s always great when they bring out the toys!  Playing fetch, chew toys, and tennis balls are my favorite things.  You are not likely to find a bigger treat fan than me, either.  Another thing I enjoy is peanut butter filled Kongs and I enjoy going for walks and surveying my world. / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I came in with some broken teeth and needed a good dental cleaning when I arrived and thankfully MM has done that for me.  I’ve got a skin tag on my back leg, but it doesn’t bother me, and I hope you won’t mind it either.   I am looking for a wonderful furever home with a loving family!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 25, 2025, 12:00 pm

Story
LOOKING FOR MY ANGEL:  Approx. 10 years / Approx. 17 lbs. Hi, my name’s Rusty!  I lost my life-long home when my previous owner experienced medical issues & needed to go to assisted living.  I was sad about that, but fortunately, Mostly Mutts has been able to take me in & I’m in a great foster home while I wait to find my new family that is looking for a constant, sweet companion. I was adopted for a few weeks, but came back to Mostly Mutts as the home was not a good fit.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I like the dogs I have met in my previous home, & I like the older calm chihuahua in my foster home – sharing our people & walking nicely with her on our daily walks, so if you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet! / I lived with five cats in my previous home. / I liked the calm children I met in my previous home, but I don’t remember their ages. Since I have been known to nip if startled or accidentally hurt, it’s best the children in my new home be older calm kids (age 15+), & - of course, let’s meet!    • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m a sweet boy who, though initially nervous in new environments, adjusts nicely in a very calm environment which is what I’m looking for in my home.  I often find a lap to jump in where I’m super happy as I’m a true lap dog!  I’ll even settle in & lean back, as if asking you to hold me like a baby – so loving!  I’m used to having my person with me all the time, so a stay-at-home family member is a must for me.  A true ‘Velcro dog’, I just want to be involved in whatever you are doing! You want to watch TV? Great, I’ll sit with you on the couch. You need to work at a desk? I’ll be in the dog bed on the floor in your office.  You cooking? I’ll help! You get the idea? I’m a great constant companion.  I have been a bit protective of my home, barking at strangers & sometimes nipping at the back of their leg when they turn away.  My foster is working on this with me now & I don’t do it in public, just in my home. A home without a lot of people coming & going is best for me. I did nip in my temporary home, but it was also learned that they were not giving me the proper dosage of my anxiety medication. / My energy level is 4 - 6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  My foster reports that I am a smart boy, so they enrolled me in Mostly Mutts’ Adult Basic Training classes where I recently received my certificate of completion for Mostly Mutts basic obedience.  This means I have mastered the ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, ‘down’, & ‘stay’ commands & how to ‘wait’ before entering & exiting doors. I also have good leash-walking manners, only pulling momentarily in new areas if something makes me nervous. They also say that I’m so smart that I know what they are asking me to do.  I do not respond well to any physical force as I’m very sensitive & get my feelings hurt easily, so a calm home & quiet-natured family is what I will thrive in. / I don’t need a crate at all in my foster home & in fact I do better without one. When my fosters leave the house, I do howl for a bit (so best no apartment/condo type home please), but I haven’t been destructive, & I usually just hang out on the couch.  At night I sleep in my dog bed next to my fosters’ bed & that makes me happy. / My potty manners are great in my foster home, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too!  • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I enjoy going for walks with my family, as well as hanging out with them in a fenced yard.  I also really love napping on the couch under a blanket & I enjoy playing with squeaky toys & balls with my person.  Collecting all the cuddles is also very nice! /  I am not a fan of that confusing, pesky iRobot vacuum cleaner, so I bark at it – though I’m getting more used to it with time.  I don’t like being restrained or physically forced to do something – it frightens me. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love & attention. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered.  I have a couple old man lumps & bumps that don’t bother me, & I hope you won’t mind either.  I am  taking an inexpensive anxiety medication (fluoxetine), which has greatly improved some intermittent eye tremors & some separation anxiety I was experiencing. I will likely need to take this medication forever as it helps me so much.   I’m looking for a home where I will be a much-loved family member where I can be with my family a lot. My adoption fee is $100.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  February 15, 2025, 8:38 am
