Story
Cooper is a 2-year-old mini rat terrier that was purchased from a breeder when he was a year and a half old. His family tried hard to work with Cooper, but he had some reactivity issues with people. They surrendered him to New Rattitude and he went to work with a foster who is also a dog trainer! Cooper has learned a lot of things in the past month. He is still reactive in new situations and with people he does not know -- barking loudly, running away, or rushing at people, but he is learning to cope better and is doing those things with much less frequency.Aside from his insecurities, he is a funny, friendly, sweet dog! Cooper loves the people he trusts and will wiggle and play bow to get your attention. He has become fast friends with his foster mom's dad, who is the nightly treat giver. Cooper LOVES other dogs and toys and is very playful.  He has had no issues with any of the small to medium dogs in his foster home. He would probably do fine with cats as well.     Cooper has made big strides learning to trust more people. He continues to learn impulse control and goes on walks regularly with people he isn't attached to. Doing this helps him learn that new people aren't as scary as he thinks.  A video of his foster mom working with him is here:  https://youtu.be/0al1kCcnSRU.  Cooper's adopters will need to understand his personality and continue to work with him.  For this reason, his adopters must be able to come to his foster home to facilitate the first meeting.  Cooper weighs only 7 lbs., so he is easy to manage! He is only partially house-trained. He still thinks he can mark in the house so he wears a belly band when inside. He has been taught to 'Put his pants on' - stand quietly and have the belly band put on. Could littlest Cooper finally find the loving home he has been searching for? Story
We adopted Ziggy a couple of years ago from a local animal shelter. He took a while to warm up to us, but eventually developed a strong relationship with our other dog Penny and with our kids. Unfortunately, he needs much more affection and attention than we are able to give him right now with a toddler and full time jobs. He is constantly underfoot, rarely relaxes when food is around, and has a tendency to tear into stuffed animals and throw blankets. Easily trainable but we just don’t have the time or energy in this current stage of life. We want better for him. Ziggy would do best with someone who is retired or works from home and can provide him the lap time he so desperately wants.

Story
Meet Carter, a charming 2-year-old dog with a shy nature and a gentle spirit. At just 10.5 lbs., he is a little guy that needs some extra help developing his confidence. Until recently, Carter lived with at least 15 other small dogs that got dropped off at a shelter when their owner died. Once he got his new rattitude, Carter has been moving past his fears and is learning about living in a busy neighborhood with people and dogs and lots of loud noises. He's even mastered 'sit,' although other tricks allude him. This little dude is very interested in his people but is still a bit leery of big movements and loud or unfamiliar sounds. His dislikes include vacuums, joggers, and anything new. His likes include a quiet sunny spot for napping, a comfy pile of pillows or a fluffy dog bed to lay on, and a biscuit before bed. Carter is starting to explore his space more, especially tasting leaves, food wrappers, or other objects he finds outside and sometimes in the house. He doesn't yet play with toys, but does show interest in chew bones. While Carter may be curious about where you are, he gives humans their space and likes his space in return. Carter feels the same about the other small dog in the house and would be fine living with another small dog. Once you make it into Carter's inner circle, he will interact more freely seeking attention, but it takes some time to build his trust.Meeting strange people and dogs outside is still very scary for Carter and he needs to develop more skills in meeting both dogs and humans that are new to him as he most often reacts with some loud sounds (like a meerkat warning its family). He enjoys both treats and affection as part of training and needs to find an adopter that can continue working with him to overcome his fears and be his best self.Carter is house-trained on a schedule and is learning to let you know when he needs to go out. He sleeps well in a crate all night in the human's bedroom without complaint and is trustworthy to be uncrated during the day. Carter wants to find a forever home that can help him continue to learn that not everything is scary,  and help him expand his friend list! His shyness is endearing, and his sweet nature shines through once you get to know each other. Carter will require a slow introduction and his new family will need to be able to visit with him near Alexandria, VA, prior to his adoption being finalized.
