Story
JET is currently being fostered in TEXAS. Jet is a jack Russel terrier mix apx 6-8 months old and 12 pounds. He loves other animals but is very weary of humans. Jet is not aggressive and doesn't bites but he still runs from us and does not want to be picked up or held. He is a work in progress and we prefer he goes to a foster or adopter with rescue experience. Jet is happy to us and he plays with toys, loves dogs, dances around the yard but does not crave human contact. He is young, and he blossoms more and more every single day. He needs time, patience, routine and a lot of love. Jet was rescued from a high kill shelter. He was cowering in a corner, shaking, eyes wide, stiff and covered in his own feces and urine. He was absolutely terrified. We knew we had to give him a chance. Everyday he does a bit better. Jet will need a fenced yard. He will need to stay on leash and harness for a few weeks until he learns the new routine of his home. He is very smart and catches on quickly. Jet will be about 20- 25 pounds fully grown. Story
WISHBONE is currently being fostered in LONDON, ONTARIO Let me introduce you to Wishbone! He is approx. 3 yrs and 18.3 lbs. He is a sweet, cuddly and loveable Jack Russell mix who loves sleeping next to people. He was a Canadian owner surrender. It is essential to research the Jack Russel terrier breed to make yourself familiar with their traits and typical behavior. He had a complicated neuter due to undecended testicle and a hernia and cherry eye surgery. Wishbone also had an ear infection in both ears. It was treated during the surgery. He has recovered wonderfully without any issues. Wishbone will sometimes bark when he hears unknown noises, and he will let you know when someone is at the door, or if he needs something. He is not a destructive chewer. He will chew his own toys, but he will destroy softer toys very quickly. His energy level varies and can depend on home environment. If his forever home has too many things going on, it would stimulate him causing him to be more hyper. However, if the home is quiet, he will be a quiet dog and choose to sleep most of the day. Currently, he stays in a crate while his foster is at work. However, prefers to sleep with his human in bed all night. He is good with other dogs, but has NOT been tested with small dogs. He is currently living with a 55 lbs dog and gets along very well. He would do best with a dog his size or bigger OR as an only dog. Wishbone will chase cats, so NO cats in the home please. He has NOT been tested with kids. Well mannered and dog savvy children over 15 yrs is recommended. Wishbone does require calming meds when going to the veterinarian. He has some anxiety with vet visits and requires these meds to allow the vets to handle him. It is also best for nail trims to be done at the vet. Wishbone does not like being picked up and needs to be approached slowly. He may nip under certain circumstances, but it is very preventable as long as he can see your hands approaching. For example, touching his body without warning while he is sleeping may startle him.

Story
LEONA is currently being fostered in TEXAS. Leona whom we call Nona, is apx 7-8 years young and weighs 18 pounds. She has gotten a tad chunky here with us and probably could stand to lose a pound or two. She is a rat terrier. Very smart, walks well on leash, appears potty trained. Good with other dogs but will let a younger hyper dog know when she has had enough playing and will growl. She is a confident dog with other dogs, not submissive but not overly dominant either. She tends to act like the stern grandmother of group. She likes to play and have a good time but when it is time for a nap and to watch her shows she wants to be left alone 😂. She couldn't care less about the cats, but would probably growl at them if they tried to eat her food. Nona is not food aggressive with her dry food but gets a bit persnickety with her wet food or special treats. Nona is great with all people and children, very gentle. She has been around young children before as the people who found her had two young boys and Nona liked them very much. Nona’s rescue story is quite comical. Some people ordered a Pizza. The app said the pizza was delivered but there was no pizza on the step. After checking the ring cam, they discovered a stray dog took off with the entire box, large pizza included. The stray dog then ran into the neighbors garage with her stolen pizza and was found eating it. Those people ended up keeping the stray, now known as Nona for a few days until finding her a rescue. She came to us thin, a very bad coat, very dirty, she needed to be spayed, her teeth were all either falling out or broken and she was heart worm positive. 3 months and a couple thousand dollars later, Nona has recovered and is ready for a home where she does not have to steal a pizza. She had a dental, she had her heart worm treatment and went through treatment with zero issues. She is a well mannered girl. She acts very much like a rat terrier in many ways but she does not have a prey drive. She is bossy in the morning about breakfast time. We tried to break this habit to no avail. She wants her breakfast. On time!! No fussing around LOL. She is an older girl that had a hard life. She deserves a second chance and a family that adores her and her weird rat terrier ways 🙂 To get approved please visit our website www.texaschihuahuarescuecanada.org to fill in an application to adopt.
