Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Rusty, a high-energy terrier with a love for toys, belly scratches, and a sunny personality that’s hard to resist. This playful pup thrives on attention and exercise, which is key for channeling his terrier energy. Once he gets his energy out, Rusty enjoys a good cuddle session. He enjoys plenty of activities to keep him busy. Rusty has striking colors—black, rust, and a white shaggy chest—that make his name a perfect fit. His foster family calls him “Ruffessor Rusty,” and it’s easy to see why with his lively, quick, and clever nature. He loves to fetch toys, often showing off his cat-like agility with speed and springiness. While he does well crated during the day when his family is out, he’s vocal about wanting to get out and play as soon as they return. His favorite time might be when he gets one-on-one time with his foster mom, bringing his toys and settling down inside after a busy day of outside adventures. Full of life, Rusty would do great with a dedicated human companion who understands the needs of a young energetic dog. He’s best suited for an active family who can provide the exercise and attention he craves. Rusty would be happy either as an only dog or with a dog sibling, as long as he has someone to play with and bond closely with. He’s a smart, devoted dog ready to become someone’s best friend! Rusty is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. *Rescue puppies are notorious for losing their birth certificates before entering our rescue. BooBoo has been living with other dogs and does ok. He does need a minute to warm up to new people however at this time that may just be a reaction to all that has changed in his life in the last few days. BooBoo would enjoy a mellow home where he can continue getting over his past and begin thriving for his future. If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Apply on our website ( https://www.healingheartsrescue.org/adopt )  to  set up a private meeting or check below for my adoption event schedule.   Age: Approximately 8 years old Weight: 7 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: No Kid friendly: Yes Potty trained: Almost! Crate trained: Yes **Requires another dog in the home** **NO CATS OR OTHER SMALL CRITTERS** Shorty gets upset by cats and other "pocket pets," such as guinea pigs, hamsters, or ferrets, and needs a home without them. Have you been looking for an adorable, affectionate, and silly pup who loves being with people? Meet Shorty! He is as mild-mannered and sweet as they come. If relaxed laid-back evenings are what you seek, look no further… he will not disappoint. Shorty will steal your heart and make you laugh with his idiocrasies and quirkiness as soon as you meet him! Shorty is friendly and enjoys the company of his humans and other dogs, though he prefers not to play with others and instead will happily sleep by them. He is just a bit unsure at first of people and new places but warms up quickly! When left alone, he's content being gated in the kitchen with his doggy friend lying on his comfy bed. He loves to snuggle, be near his humans, and adores being pet. He will follow you all over, is very alert and inquisitive, and really just wants to be involved in whatever you’re doing. In the evenings, he enjoys resting on a warm lap watching TV. He is typically pretty quiet but will alert you to sudden or unfamiliar noises. Shorty loves being outside with his humans and has moderate energy, so time outside will be a good outlet for him. His favorite pastimes are being outside, sunbathing, chewing on his braided bully stick, getting freeze-dried treats as rewards, and cuddling with his humans in the evening! He also currently has the luxury of sleeping in a soft, warm bed with his foster parents. Shorty is doing well on potty training when kept on a schedule, with few accidents when going outside and using potty pads. Shorty experienced an injury that affects his balance and coordination, and although he does not have a perfect gait and likely never will, he can walk, run, play, and jump. He can be clumsy at times, and the faster he runs or trots, sometimes he will end up tumbling, but he has never hurt himself and always pops up and keeps on going. He does startle to loud noises and will often suddenly jump up very alert, excited, and clumsily, so having soft landing spots will be helpful. We think all this just adds to his adorable quirkiness and silly ideocracies. Shorty is a little goofball who always keeps us laughing and on our toes! Apply on our website ( https://www.healingheartsrescue.org/adopt )  to  set up a private meeting or check below for my adoption event schedule.   Age: Approximately 5 years old Weight:  Dog friendly: Yes, requires on in the home Cat friendly: unknown, not tested Kid friendly: older kids only Potty trained: Yes, good on a schedule  Crate trained: No, does not like the crate    Izzy is a very smart, playful and goofy typical JRT in so many ways. Once Izzy has chosen you as her person, she is very loving and protective. Whether you are getting home from being gone for hours or just getting out of bed from 2 feet away from her, she will let you know just how happy she is to see you with her extremely fast wagging tail and little love grunts as she dances around you. Izzy LOVES her toys. She typically likes to carry her miniature hedgehogs around in her mouth as she goes about her day, inside and outside. She seems to really enjoy car rides and is usually very quiet and calm until you get to your destination and then she ready to go. Izzy loves walks and sniffing and for the most part can be easy to take on walks until she sees other dogs and then her protective side comes out and she is quite reactive. Izzy is a huge fan of routine and change can be hard on her. Izzy's past has clearly taught her that people can be scary but with patience and time she is slowly learning to trust. Izzy currently has two foster siblings (a male Shih Tzu mix and a female Beagle) and does well with them. Izzy does best with a calm companion dog that she can take cues from to help her with her anxiety. Izzy can be one of the most rewarding and sweet dogs that you would ever meet if she's given enough time and patience.
