Story
Spike is in search for his forever home! WHAT MY FOSTER SAYS ABOUT ME: Spike, AKA His Royal Spiciness, is our special little man! He's got pzazz and spunk even though he's a senior boy. He desperately wants your affection but will sometimes reward that affection with a nip on the hand because he's decided, in his Chihuahua energy, that he doesn't want to be touched anymore. Don't worry though - he has 3.5 teeth so you don't really feel it. He loves to cuddle, but again - don't let him sleep next to you because if you DARE to MOVE he will be shooketh at the thought that a human would even think to disturb him and will snap. How else will he earn his title of 'His Royal Spiciness'? All this to say... he has a loyal fanbase of fosters who love his personality and ease of leaving him alone so the spiciness grows on you. If you're looking for a dog that will add spice to your life, Spike is your man. Spike recently underwent surgery to remove a mass on his head, and while it was entirely removed with narrow margins, it is possible due to the nature of the tumor it may have spread elsewhere in his body. However clinically, Spike is thriving. He is energetic and spry, eats well, and still very much enjoys his life. Check out Spike's video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYsD1bKn42Y ATTRIBUTES: Spike does well in foster with other dogs that respect his personal boundaries and gives him space. Spike should not go to a home with cats or kids. -------------- Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained. Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie ready to play! SAM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:  Sam      Best Guess for Breed: Jack Russell terrier and chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2024       SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  23 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Sam cannot go to a home with kids under age 15.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster   Check out this video of Sam: https://youtube.com/shorts/N-9ZEnGu1XM?si=Vof5zYEnwQRfa8Iq   Special adoption considerations: Sam is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Sam needs to go to a home with a resident dog to help him gain more confidence. he cannot go to a home with kids under age 15. Sam is nervous around men and tries to resource guard the things he values. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Sam is Looking For:   His forever home! This cutie, through no fault of his own, landed in the shelter. He's looking forward to his new chapter, eagerly awaiting all the sniffy walks he will get with his new humans, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. He's out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog, knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under his own roof, and that's right at the top of his wish list. Right now, he's shy and unsure in new environments, so he needs extra patient and loving adopters who will help him become more confident in new places, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog! In exchange, he offers all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's stockpiling at the shelter and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see Sam trotting by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Sam is adjusting very well and becoming more confident every day. He is still shy when outside and will stay close on walks while he frequently looks at you. He understands going to the bathroom outside but has his favorite places to go - #1 is the dog park!   Inside he is more bouncy and playful. He does have a rougher play style but hasn’t been destructive with anything. He gets along well with the resident dog and they play a lot. I would describe his energy level as medium+. He gets nervous when he sees big dogs and wants to observe them before greeting.   He is learning house manners, basic commands, and takes gentle corrections well. He does very well in the crate and will settle when asked. He loves giving and receiving affection and has the potential to be a snuggler given time and patience so he can fully relax in his environment.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   !
