Story
Matilda is a precious 7-year-old Papillon with a heart full of love and a story that speaks to her incredible resilience. After being rescued from a commercial breeder, Matilda has faced more than her fair share of challenges, including severe malnourishment and two surgeries on her right front leg to repair breaks. Despite everything she has been through, she is a gentle, loving soul who is now ready to find her forever home. Matilda is seeking a special person where she will be the absolute focus of their world. Her ideal home will be calm and serene-one without children, other pets, or stairs, as she needs a quiet environment where her physical and emotional needs are met. Matilda has had dental surgery, leaving her with only four teeth, so she enjoys moist, easy-to-eat food that keeps her tummy happy. While Matilda wasn't housebroken when she arrived, she has been making steady progress and is learning to use potty pads. She is a physically delicate little lady, so gentle handling and patience are essential. Thunderstorms and loud noises can still be very scary for her, and her new family will need to provide her with comfort and security during those times. But what Matilda truly shines at is giving and receiving love. She has a heart of gold and is looking for someone who will shower her with attention and cherish every moment together. If you're ready to open your heart and home to this brave, loving girl, Matilda will be a devoted and affectionate companion.

Story
Little Girl Breed: Cavalier or Papillion or Shih Tzu mix- Or a mix with Tibetan Spaniel! Gender: Female, spayed DOB: 1-8-2022 Weight: approx. 10 pounds Microchipped Adoption Fee: $375 This sweetheart is just as cute as she can be! She is housebroken, pee pad trained, and crate trained. She knows her basic commands. She can walk nicely on a leash. She gets along with other dogs and loves her humans! Little Girl still has a bit of insecurity and can end up with a submissive pee incident at greetings and with high excitement. The best solution for this, in addition to ongoing training, is to limit all greetings to outside. This means that when you get home and remove her from her crate, you don't touch her, talk to her, or engage her until you are outdoors! The less interactions she have physically and verbally at initial greeting, the better the submissive wetting will get! Little Girl loves to chew on a nylabone or bully stick! She enjoys squeaky toys, as well! She plays like a maniac with her foster siblings, but does need continued monitoring for appropriate play- she doesn't always get the cues of other dogs on when play is over or unwanted. She will need guidance in this area. When on walks Little Girl does great with handlers that require she walk politely by their side. When allowed to go where she wants when she wants and do what she wants when she wants- well, she wants to run after the squirrel and leap at other dogs while barking wildly with abandon. This, unfortunately, causes fear and anxiety for other people, dogs and animals. She is slowly learning to be polite and we are seeking a home that will take the time to help her be a better dog on walks! She's doing great in her foster home and is a fun little girl! Good w/ Other Dogs- Yes Good w/ Cats- No Energy Level- Moderate Children- No Grooming Needs- Moderate to high Walks on Leash- Yes Special Needs- No Knows basic commands- Learning! Experienced Home- Required Good First Time Dog- No Rides well in car- Yes Crate Trained- Yes Low Allergen- We don't think so Good apartment dog- No Fenced Yard- Required Adoptive homes within one hour of the Raleigh area. All HEART dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies, kennel cough, distemper, parvo, adenovirus, and hepatitis. All dogs over the age of six months are tested for heartworms and, if they test positive, have either been treated or provided alternative slow-kill treatment. Dogs are provided monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Dogs are also provided additional medical care, as needed. This care may include amputations, wound repair, treatment for skin disorders, dental care, treatment for infection and other medical needs.
