Story
Meet Teddy Roosevelt!
A spirited eight-and-a-half-year-old Papillon/Cocker Spaniel mix from New York, NY, with a chocolate-brown coat and a heart that’s eager for companionship and care. Weighing just 8 pounds, Teddy is as charming as he is resilient—true to his namesake, he has a brave, independent spirit and a personality that's a delightful mix of sweetness and a touch of “I’ll do it my way” attitude!
Teddy is most content when close to his people, enjoying snuggles under a blanket or resting on your lap. He shines in quiet, calm settings where he feels safe and supported. Being a companion is his specialty, and he fills any room with warmth and affection, especially when his loved ones return home—he greets them with pure joy! He also adores toys and thrives with a calming routine. Ideally, Teddy would flourish in a home outside the busy city life; he’s sensitive to loud noises and high-energy environments.
While Teddy’s charm is undeniable, he does come with some specific needs. He is selective with other dogs, showing preference for smaller, calm companions, and can feel overwhelmed by large dogs. Though generally friendly with cats and young children, Teddy has a sensitive side. His new family should understand that Teddy prefers control over his space and schedule; if startled or uncomfortable, he may react by growling or nipping.
Teddy’s ideal guardian would be an experienced dog caregiver in a low-activity home with a steady routine. Teddy needs a compassionate, patient guardian willing to respect his boundaries, reinforce positive behaviors, and support him through his sensitivities with gentle, consistent care.
