Buckwheat is a 6 month old bundle of joy who is ready to find his forever home! He’s the perfect mix of a fun-loving, sweet, and energetic puppy, combined with the maturity of a dog who’s already had some training. With his charming personality and eagerness to learn, Buckwheat is sure to steal your heart from the moment you meet him. More than anything, Buckwheat loves to play. He already knows how to fetch balls and toys and especially loves to play chase and tug, whether with his humans or other dogs. He is also usually happy to play by himself when a companion is not available. With his friendly nature, Buckwheat wants to meet every dog he sees and enjoys getting to know new people as well. In his foster home, Buckwheat has done great with the three resident dogs, even managing to win over the very grumpy dog that initially wanted nothing to do with him. The two now happily snuggle and play tug together. Buckwheat was also very excited to briefly meet the family’s elderly cats. If adopted into a home with cats, Buckwheat may need to learn how to contain his innate puppy enthusiasm and give them the space they need. Buckwheat has also met some older kids (7 and above) and did wonderfully with them. Buckwheat is highly trainable and loves to please his people. He’s a quick learner who mastered his name, as well as 'sit' and 'down', in just one day! This smart pup is also very close to learning how to “stay” and being fully potty-trained, making him an ideal addition for anyone looking for a puppy with a great start. He is terrific on a leash, only pulling a little when he spots a dog he’s eager to befriend. His fosters think he would probably enjoy hiking and perhaps jogging/running as well. His energy and friendliness make him a joy to have on outings and a perfect companion for an active family. Buckwheat really loves his people and would prefer to be near them whenever possible, but he happily naps in his crate when his people need to leave the house for a bit or are busy with other things. His foster family has also successfully left him uncrated with their other dogs in a gated family room/kitchen space. Buckwheat enjoys snuggles, and would love to fall asleep on your lap on the sofa, after a day full of fun and play. Buckwheat wakes up in his foster home at 7:30 am and goes out in the yard for a potty break with the household's three resident dogs. After eating breakfast the dogs all go out in the yard for another potty break and some play time. Throughout the day, Buckwheat goes out in the yard every thirty minutes or so in case he needs to potty and to get out some of that great puppy energy. His fosters play fetch and tug with him in the house and he plays chase and tug with the resident dogs whenever they’re willing. Buckwheat goes in his crate with a peanut butter kong at least once a day for nap time, but is also happy to nap outside his crate with the other dogs. In his foster home he is generally confined to a large family room/kitchen space during the day to prevent any potty accidents–which have been very few and far between–in the rest of the house. Each day Buckwheat goes out on one or two walks of about an hour each, sometimes with a resident dog and sometimes without. He also works daily with the foster family’s dog trainer to learn commands and work on perfecting his leash-walking skills. After dinner at 5:00 pm, Buckwheat enjoys some more playtime before winding down in the evening for snuggles with his foster family and their dogs. He goes out for a final potty break around 9:30 pm and then gets in his crate with a peanut butter kong, where he sleeps beautifully until the morning. Buckwheat’s playful nature is balanced by his love of bonding time with his people. He would thrive in a home where he can be near his people for much of the day, have a playful dog companion, continue his training, enjoy lots of activity, and soak up all the love he deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal, smart, and sweet companion to brighten your days, Buckwheat is your guy! Apply today to give this incredible pup the loving home he’s been waiting for. Buckwheat is an option for a home that has had dog experience. If they have children they need to be over the age of 5.January 27, 2025, 7:17 am
