Meet Lily! This sweet little Norwegian Elkhound mix recently came to the Centre as an unclaimed stray and has quickly stolen our hearts. She's a smart, food-motivated girl who loves pets and attention, making her a joy to be around. In her first two days here, we've noticed some small signs of anxiety, which is very common for dogs adjusting to the shelter's stressful environment. She may begin anti-anxiety medication during her stay with us to help her feel more comfortable. Her anxiety could be situational, but if it's part of her normal behaviour, she will need an adopter who is patient and willing to work through her anxiety. An adopter should also consider having her assessed by their vet to determine if ongoing anxiety medication is needed. Currently in heat, she will need to wait a few weeks after her heat cycle ends before she can be spayed and able to be fully adopted. We have also noticed signs of previous cage biting on her teeth and will have a veterinarian assess whether she may need dental work to ensure she is fully healthy before being adopted. She is available as a foster-to-adopt candidate, meaning a potential adopter can welcome her into their home while she remains under our care. This allows us to ensure her health and well-being before finalizing the adoption paperwork. If you're looking for a clever and affectionate companion who could use a little extra love and support, she might just be the perfect fit for your family! If Lily sounds like a great fit for you and your home, we encourage you to come to our facility to meet them! Meet and Greets with our animals are on a first-come, first-concered basis. Adoptions are reasons to celebrate but if Lily is adopted before you get here, our Staff will be available to introduce you to another special animal, so don't hesitate to come by when you can. We require photo ID for meet and greets and to complete adoptions The Centre is open Tuesday - Saturday Noon - 4 pm for Walk-Ins.
