Story
Kramer is a 5 year old Newfypoo (Newfoundland/Poodle mix) who was surrendered to rescue when his owner could no longer care for themselves.  This was a big adjustment for him, understandably, but he has been doing well in his foster home. He seems to be very unhappy when crated.  So, we are using a larger indoor kennel for now, when we need to leave for short periods.  When we are home, we allow him free roam of the house, and he has been sleeping on the floor of our bedroom at night with no issues.  He is fully housetrained and has excellent housemanners.  He knows not to jump on furniture, does not jump up on countertops and hasn’t played with or chewed on inappropriate objects.  In fact, so far the only negative behavior we’ve seen from him is what seems to be an anxiety thing – always wanting to be near his people throughout the day, and has a tendency to jump up on people, on occasion.  We’re working with him on this.  This could be simply due to his unexpected move to a new home and we are hoping he can work through this with time, love and a little confidence.  For this reason, and due to his size, he may be best in a home with older children and adults. He does well on the leash.  He doesn’t pull hard, but due to his size, anyone walking him will need to be able to handle occasional pulling, leaning, or walking in the way of his handler. He gets along extremely well with other dogs.  He takes the submissive approach when meeting new dogs, and when initiating play.  When his invitation is accepted, he will play as gently or aggressively as his partner prefers.  (Again, due to his size, he may inadvertently play too roughly with smaller dogs).  He is also very good at keeping himself entertained.  It appears that he has been an only dog, and has developed some games to play alone that he enjoys.  One is tossing a tennis ball and running to catch it himself, or pushing/chasing anything that rolls.   He has been exposed to cats, and has only shown friendly curiosity with them.   We will continue to monitor this and update if we notice anything further. It appears that he has a good amount of energy when playing outside but is much calmer indoors.  He seems to be well trained – so far, we have noticed that he understands “sit”, “shake” and “lie down” and “leave it”.  He takes treats enthusiastically yet gently.  When he's feeling lovey, he enjoys giving big hugs.  If you've ever wondered what it's like to hug a fluffy human-sized teddy bear, this is it! This boy has only been in rescue a short time, but is already showing signs of being a very well-behaved, lovable and smart boy.  He is ready to find his forever family, where he can regain confidence and stability for the rest of his life.  If this sounds like you, please apply today! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $650.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 28, 2025, 5:47 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $300 plus tax Friendly! Not treat motivated  No accidents No separation anxiety  Dwight would do best in an active home (His foster believes a home without younger children or another resident dog would be ideal) Loves to be outside  Goes on errands with his Foster like Home Depot runs and Petco visits One time Dwight saw a mannequin and nuzzled it's hand so it would 'pet' him - Cute!! Dwight would like everyone who sees him to say hi  Dwight is a handsome Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix! He loves dog parks and playing outside, rolling in the grass. He will do well in a fenced property or farm. He is leash trained, muzzle trained, and crate trained, however, the door often remains open. He’s a quick learner. He’s a little over 2 years old and shy of 100 pounds. He knows no, wait, down, paw, gentle, bed, belly, “get it” to eat, and sit with many more things he’s still perfecting. He loves the butt scratches but when he is sleeping her prefers to be left alone. He can sometimes be a little protective of his chew bones or food. He doesn’t play fetch but he loves chasing a laser like a cat. He prefers humans to chase him as a way of playing. He came from a home with two adults and should not go to a home with children. He’s used to a more quiet space and doesn’t do very well with loud noises. He did a great job outside watching his previous owner in his work shop. He does a great job being an outside guard dog, that’s definitely the Great Pyrenees in him. He loves to work and play. He has a ton of energy.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
Kit has been in rescue for over one year & celebrated her 2nd birthday (9/29) by showing foster mom a new trick. She is almost always the first one to come in when called. This is a huge milestone because she was so skittish when arriving into rescue that she would run away anytime she was approached or called to come in. She now has a perfect routine after 18 months, but it has been slow progress.  She loves getting pets & has been enjoying belly rubs as of recent. Kit loves other dogs but tends to be very dominant and a little snappy when meeting new dogs for the first time. She would be fine with a dog that is less dominant or with a patient alpha, who will gently show her who’s in charge. She would also be fine as an only dog. She absolutely loves puppies & is very gentle, so the perfect scenario may be that she is the first dog & another is added at some point. She cannot be around small animals, such as birds, cats, or chickens, as her prey drive is HIGH. We have chickens & she’s gotten into them this summer with unfortunate outcomes for the chickens. She definitely needs a fenced yard because her absolute favorite thing to do is run! She will frolic & play for as long as she can. She loves long walks, soft toys & sleeping on the couch or in bed. She doesn’t need to be kenneled although when she is in new places, she may chew on things she is not supposed to, such as socks, pillows, and cushions. She has not done this in a very long time but it is a nervous response for her. She would love a home where she could have more one on one attention as she doesn’t ask for much.  Due to her cautious nature, older, respectful kids would be best. She will take time and patience to adjust to a new environment but when she does the little things will reward you tenfold. She's been in rescue long enough and would love a home of her own!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 23, 2025, 9:48 pm

Story
Angel is a stunning 75-pound Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix with a soft, fluffy white coat. Angel is a sweetheart who loves people and adores belly rubs. She is low to medium energy, spending most of the day napping inside with some bursts of energy to play outside and with other dogs.  She is still getting used to her schedule in her foster home, but is house-trained and sleeps in her crate at night. She does not frequently bark and only whines when needing to go outside. She does not need constant attention but will check in with you for the occasional pet and affection throughout the day. Angel enjoys being outside and would do well with a large fenced in yard where she can explore at her leisure. She is still getting used to being on a leash and can be a little stubborn at times, but does not pull too much.  As a Great Pyrenees, Angel is very loyal and protective of her family. In her foster home, she has a tendency to guard the entrances from other dogs which we have managed by not allowing her to lay in the entryway by the front and back doors. Besides her instincts to guard, she gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them.  Angel would be a wonderful addition to a home looking for a loyal, loving companion. If you’re ready to provide her with a safe yard to roam and plenty of belly rubs, she’ll repay you with unconditional love and loyalty.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
