Story
For inquiries email sharon@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $800 Location: Hopewell, VA Just in time for St. Patricks Day, Jameson arrives with lots of love to give. Hes a 10 pound, 5 (almost) month old Morkie (mix). He is sweet but VERY confused. As expected, he is anxious. He is trying to understand where he is and why! Jameson is currently living with 3 (small) foster siblings. He is not very interested in them at the present but that may change as he gets accustomed to his foster home. He has a busy couple of days ahead. He will be groomed Wednesday, March 18th and neutered on Thursday, March 19th. Once he is healed he will be ready for adoption. As you can expect he is already popular. We are receiving a lot of calls and emails about him. Please understand, we will need to determine what he needs in a home before we make any decisions. Jameson is our first priority. He is not just another puppy. He will need special attention and time to work through his anxiety. He is not a good fit for an apartment or small children at the present. So far we know he will need: someone who is willing to work through his anxiety with a trainer using consistency and positive reinforcement (and possibly a vet for some short term meds while he is adjusting) a calm household where someone is home to reassure him someone familiar with small dog energy/anxiousness completion of a training course for obedience/manners within 6 months from adoption date a fenced yard will be a plus on your application someone willing to give him the time and space to adapt Jameson is a very sweet little boy but he has not been given the tools he needs to be a confident little boy in a big world. His training begins today with his foster mom! While she is no professional, she has fostered over 60+ dogs and helped them begin their training journey. Jameson is lucky boy. We will will give him the time and attention he needs to succeed. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
Meet Arch – a rare little puppy who seems to have been born knowing how to be the perfect companion. Every once in a while a puppy comes along that makes everyone stop and wonder how he got to be so wonderful without much training or attention early in life. Arch is exactly that kind of puppy. From the moment he arrived in foster care, he has impressed everyone with his sweet nature, intelligence, and easygoing personality. Arch was born around December 8 and is a handsome brindle boy believed to be a Mountain Cur mix. At just three months old he weighs about 11 pounds, and we expect him to grow into a 35–40 pound adult depending on which side of the family tree shows up the most. One of the first things you’ll notice about Arch is his incredibly soft coat. His velvety fur makes you want to stroke his head and run your hand all the way down his back. And his personality is just as lovable as his looks. When he gets excited to see you, he hops around like a little bunny, full of joy and enthusiasm. Arch is a very people-oriented puppy. Rather than running off exploring on his own, he prefers to stay close and simply follow his people around the yard. Call his name and he comes running—his recall is already excellent and he seems to know his name right away. He’s a bright little guy who is eager to learn and connect with his humans. In his foster home, Arch lives with dogs of all sizes. He happily runs around with the big dogs and doesn’t mind the older, more serious little ladies who sometimes find his playful energy a bit much. His feelings never seem to get hurt—he just keeps bouncing along enjoying life. Like any young puppy, Arch is learning new things every day. He is currently figuring out how to walk on a leash and wear a collar for the first time. He is also working on house training and is learning both pee pads and outdoor potty breaks. He sleeps well in his crate and can usually make it almost all night. Arch is curious, alert, and full of personality. One of his favorite things is burrowing under blankets on the couch or in bed. He also has a funny little habit of collecting his foster mom’s bedroom shoes and proudly gathering them into his dog bed like treasured toys. This boy loves his meals and is always interested in whatever his humans are eating too, which will make food a great motivator for training. If you are looking for a loving, intelligent puppy who will grow into a loyal companion, Arch may be your once-in-a-lifetime dog. He has the personality, the brains, and the heart to become an incredible family member. Arch will be ready for adoption around March 20. He will be neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed before going home. Critter Cavalry Rescue adopts to Tennessee residents and can also transport to many northeastern states using a licensed animal transport service. Story
Oakley, affectionately known as 'Dottie girl ' by her foster family, has such a sweet, lovable, big personality and is very eager to please!  This Pit/Mountain Curr mix is a total Phoenix that has risen from the fires of neglect, abandonment and even successfully raised her litter of puppies in the woods for the first 10 weeks of life. They were all successfully adopted in the Fall and living wonderful lives of love and commitment from their families.  Oakley is the perfect girl that lives with anyone and everyone that comes her way.  She embraces all people and dogs and she just lives her life with resilience and tolerance.  This girl might not be a Golden Retriever in looks but she surpasses any of the commonly accepted breeds that everyone gravitates to and wants to adopt.  Take her Pit mix package look away and please consider only her SOUL?  Trust us, you will not want to look elsewhere for the most perfect and beautiful temperamented dog.  Oakley sits on command and walks nicely on a leash.  When she meets new people, she is so very social and she embraces all other dogs, adults and children alike.  This girl loves to play dress up in cozy sweaters and loves a good chew toy. HOW FUN!???? RIGHT?  If you have children she is right there to engage and play with them and their fantasies.  This Momma dog is just a young 2yr old, 40lb sweetheart who longs to be an inside dog that can cuddle up next to you on the couch and help you melt the life challenges away.   Oakley had outsmarted many rescuers for months running around the county with her litter of puppies being. When she gave in we realized what a remarkable Mom she was and the beauty of her puppies.  All of her puppies have been adopted, but now Oakley is raising her heart and hand to say…. Pick Me Too!  She deserves a remarkable future and life because she will provide the amazing dog companion to someone that can ever be imagined.  Forget the wrapper on the package and consider the heart please…You won’t regret living a life with Oakley. Story
He arrived looking less like a dog and more like a cautionary tale about what happens if you ignore moisturizer for several consecutive lifetimes. Korben was, quite literally, flaking away, like if you took a perfectly good dog and replaced 30% of him with dust and discomfort. But here’s the part that really got us -- On the drive to Animal Aid Society, this 45-pound, pointy-nosed pointer mix, who had every reason to file a formal complaint against the universe, curled up in his transporter’s lap. Just folded himself in there like, “Yes, this seems correct.” And every so often, he’d look up at her with this soft, adoring expression, as if to say, “I assume you're taking me somewhere better, and I've decided to believe in that.”Fast forward a few medicated baths and antibiotics, and Korben has undergone a transformation. The dust is settling, literally, and what’s left is a healthy, 6-year-old, 45-pound bundle of pure, wiggly joy.And the smile. We need to talk about the smile. This dog appears to be smiling at all times. Not in a creepy, “I know something you don’t know” way. More like he's just remembered that life includes snacks, soft beds, and people who think he's wonderful (which, to be clear, he is).Korben is affectionate, snuggly, and enthusiastically committed to the belief that every human and dog he meets is his new best friend. What Korben needs now is a home, preferably one with people who appreciate a dog who'll greet them like they're returning heroes from a long and perilous journey (even if they just went to check the mail). He has already done the hard part: believing things could get better. Now he just needs someone to prove him right.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA, and visiting hours are from 9am to noon, every single day - including weekends and holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
