Story
Mavis is a one-and-a-half-year-old mountain cur/schnauzer/hound mix weighing 40#. She is sweet and friendly and great with other dogs. We think she would do best in a home with a fenced yard and another dog....but no cats!! She loves to run and play, loves adventures, and then loves a good snuggle! She is house-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash! This sweet girl is ready to find her forever home!! Applications are online at pawsacrosspittsburgh.com ##2048025##

Story
Hi, I’m David and I’m new here. I just moved up here from Kentucky recently to start a new life. My siblings and mommy already did and I was told it’s my turn now. They all beat me to finding a forever home because I was what they considered the “runt” of the litter (whatever that means).   I’m just about 11 weeks old now, and between 5-6 lbs. My foster mom says I have a lot of growing to do to catch up to my siblings who are over 10lbs now, which is fine with me because I LOVE to eat.   Because of my needs as a baby, I have become quite the Velcro dog but I am trying my best to become an independent boy. Cuddling is my absolute favorite activity, but I’m learning that the crate isn’t so terrible, especially when there is some quiet music being played and I have my stuffie to sleep with. Since it’s been so cold outside , I have learned to use a grass mat to potty on inside, and will now run to it when I have to go!   I love all the big dogs in my foster house, and I don’t mind the cats, even though the one likes to sit on me and thinks my wagging tail is a toy Overall, I think I would adapt to any loving house with my outgoing personality, and my will to live! Could you possibly be that family?! ##2242849##

Story
Heartworm Preventative: 19th of every month Flea and Tick : 19th of every month Toby is active and needs lots of exercise. He's good with other dogs at doggie day care. He goes 1 day a week and can be bossy, especially with females. Toby listens when corrected. He has been to dog obedience classes. Toby sleeps in dog crate. He is prone to eating things, so he needs to be protected from that. He previously had surgery once from eating dog bedding, so he does not get a dog bed. Toby likes soft music playing when left alone. If you have an active, outdoor oriented home with lots of opportunity for exercise, and want a smart, fun-loving dog, then come and meet Toby! **WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Boo. I'm about 7 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. Someone brought me into the pound and claimed that I was a stray. A couple of days later, a dog that had been here in the past, my friend Zoe, came in. She was chipped and had been adopted back by the son of our owner. His dog Karma was also in the pound with Zoe at that time and he got them both back home. When the girls here called to find out what was going on with Zoe, he stated that after getting Zoe and his dog Karma back, his parents were mad that he brought them back home and they kicked him out of the house. He found a safe place for Karma to stay, but Zoe and I belonged to his parents and he didn't have anyplace we could go to, so he had to leave us behind. When she called him, she didn't know I was associated with Zoe yet, but he asked if a dog matching my description had also been dropped off or picked up within the previous couple of days of Zoe's arrival. He was told that I was here and that I had been brought in as a stray. He did know the name of the person that dropped me off and it is believed that the person that dropped me off did so for my owner. Needless to say, neither of us were claimed, and I guess that is probably for the better. I get to share a kennel with Zoe now and we do great together. We keep our kennel clean at night usually. Zoe sometimes has the "old lady" accidents, but we seem to be housebroken otherwise. I can be a little unsure of new people, so sometimes it takes me just a little bit of time to warm up. Once I know you, I am extremely sweet and I like attention and affection. I get along well with the other dogs I've met here at the pound. Zoe and I do not have to be adopted together, but if someone were looking to adopt 2 dogs, we would be a great pair. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
Introducing Jody, a 5-year-old male boxer mix with a unique charm. Jody was found wandering the fields of our shelter one morning and is now seeking a forever home without other animals and preferably without young children. He can be very friendly, but he requires a patient, dedicated and experienced adopter who can understand his needs and provide him with the love and guidance he deserves. Jody would love an active lifestyle. He likes to play with toys and does well walking on a leash. Are you ready to offer Jody the stability and care he longs for? Your commitment could make all the difference in his world!
