Story
Mabel is in a foster home. To meet her, please text Rachael at 440-773-0270 Meet Mabel! This sweet seven-month-old pup is full of playful energy and loves to cuddle. Mabel is happiest when she has another doggy friend to romp around with and a fenced yard to explore and burn off some of that puppy energy. However, a fence or other dog is not required for her to be adopted. She would be just as happy going for long walks and being the queen of her home. Once playtime is over, she'll melt right into your side for some well-deserved snuggles. Mabel is curious about the cat in her foster home but has shown no signs of aggression. She is very food motivated and can't resist a bit of hot dog as a treat-perfect for training! She already knows how to sit, come when called, and happily goes into her kennel, where she sleeps at night. Housebreaking is going well for Mabel, as she understands to potty outside with frequent opportunities and praise. While she hasn't been exposed to children, Mabel is a bit shy with new faces but quickly warms up with a little patience. She is working on her leash skills, practicing every day with positive reinforcement and treats, and is making great progress. Mabel is ready to find her forever home where she can continue to learn, play, and be adored. Could that be with you?

Story
Dude is a 42lb, 1.5 year old male, mt cur mix (maybe with boxer or pittie). We pulled this sweet, energetic boy from our local overcrowded shelter where he has been overlooked for far too long. Due to his energy, Dude is currently enrolled in our "cell dog" training program to learn and perfect some basic commands like house breaking, crate training, leash walking & general obedience.Dude does well with other dogs and is a real sweetheart. This is one happy boy.Cats are unknown.Dude is a young dog that has a good bit of energy, so even though he would likely do well with any child, it is likely best that he be in a home with older kids who can appreciate his energy and activity.Dude's adoption fee is $300.00 which includes his neuter, vaccines including DHLPPC vaccines, Lyme vaccines Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies vaccine, Lyme/Heartworm testing (negative), Microchip with lifetime registration and cell dog training. If you want to meet Dude with hopes to make him part of your family, be sure to FIRST apply on our website for approval: https://www.theroadhomeanimalproject.org/companion-adoption-form-pdf.html***100% of adoption fees go back to the animals and help provide for medical care for our rescues that need specialized medical care and surgeries.*Note: Ideally, ALL members of the family (canine and human alike) should be present for any meet and greet unless otherwise specified/discussed.Please remember that we are a board of entirely volunteers that have full time jobs as well as our rescue passion. So, be patient with us and check out our Facebook page for more information and photo updates: facebook.com/trhap2014You can visit our website at theroadhomeanimalproject.org

Story
Barkley is a dog with a quiet, unwavering spirit and a past that hasn’t always been kind. At around 5 years old, this Mountain Cur mix has faced neglect and hardship, yet he still believes in the goodness of people. Since arriving at FDHS, Barkley has shown us just how loving and gentle he can be—earning a place as a staff favorite for his loyal, eager-to-please nature. He gets along well with other dogs and approaches each day with a sweetness that defies everything he’s been through. But now, Barkley faces another struggle. He’s heartworm positive and urgently needs a calm, steady environment to begin his treatment and recovery. Unfortunately, the loud, busy shelter isn’t the right place for him to find the peace he needs to heal. Barkley is holding on with the hope that someone out there will see him for the survivor he is and give him the safe, loving home he’s been waiting for.If you’ve ever thought about opening your home to a dog who truly needs a second chance, Barkley is ready to be that dog. With a little patience and a lot of love, you can show him what it feels like to be safe and cherished. Please consider fostering or adopting Barkley and giving him the quiet, comforting space he deserves to heal and finally begin his new life.

Story
Dixie is a 50 lb mixed breed.  Best guess is that she is a Mt. Cur mix. She is sweet and playful.  She loves people and seems to be fine around other dogs.  We do not know how she is with cats or children.   She is highly energetic and will require a home that is willing to provide her plenty of exercise. Anyone interested her must stop in to meet here and complete an application to be considered.   10/15/2024---Dixie is now enrolled in our prison program for training.  Anyone interested in her must schedule an appointment to meet her (she will stay at the prison until she is adopted.....she is NOT at the shelter) Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained,
Story
Luke is 4 years old. He's good with female dogs. Luke has a dominance issue, so hes not too good with male dogs. He can also be food aggressive at times. His aggression is more of a scared aggression but I don't know what his triggers are. It makes it hard for me to give him what he needs. He hasn't been around kids. I'm pregnant and I have 3 other dogs. He has become too overprotective of me. My husband cant approach me without causing an issue with luke. Its gotten worse since i became pregnant. Im rehoming Luke because I don't think he will take a child being in the house in a positive way. He loves the outdoors, walks, Frisbee, etc. He is a natural working dog. Has alot of energy. He is very smart. Has a great call back. He's good on and off leash.

Story
**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Boo. I'm about 7 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. Someone brought me into the pound and claimed that I was a stray. A couple of days later, a dog that had been here in the past, my friend Zoe, came in. She was chipped and had been adopted back by the son of our owner. His dog Karma was also in the pound with Zoe at that time and he got them both back home. When the girls here called to find out what was going on with Zoe, he stated that after getting Zoe and his dog Karma back, his parents were mad that he brought them back home and they kicked him out of the house. He found a safe place for Karma to stay, but Zoe and I belonged to his parents and he didn't have anyplace we could go to, so he had to leave us behind. When she called him, she didn't know I was associated with Zoe yet, but he asked if a dog matching my description had also been dropped off or picked up within the previous couple of days of Zoe's arrival. He was told that I was here and that I had been brought in as a stray. He did know the name of the person that dropped me off and it is believed that the person that dropped me off did so for my owner. Needless to say, neither of us were claimed, and I guess that is probably for the better. I get to share a kennel with Zoe now and we do great together. We keep our kennel clean at night usually. Zoe sometimes has the "old lady" accidents, but we seem to be housebroken otherwise. I can be a little unsure of new people, so sometimes it takes me just a little bit of time to warm up. Once I know you, I am extremely sweet and I like attention and affection. I get along well with the other dogs I've met here at the pound. Zoe and I do not have to be adopted together, but if someone were looking to adopt 2 dogs, we would be a great pair. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.
