Story
Barkley is a dog with a quiet, unwavering spirit and a past that hasn’t always been kind. At around 5 years old, this Mountain Cur mix has faced neglect and hardship, yet he still believes in the goodness of people. Since arriving at FDHS, Barkley has shown us just how loving and gentle he can be—earning a place as a staff favorite for his loyal, eager-to-please nature. He gets along well with other dogs and approaches each day with a sweetness that defies everything he’s been through. But now, Barkley faces another struggle. He’s heartworm positive and urgently needs a calm, steady environment to begin his treatment and recovery. Unfortunately, the loud, busy shelter isn’t the right place for him to find the peace he needs to heal. Barkley is holding on with the hope that someone out there will see him for the survivor he is and give him the safe, loving home he’s been waiting for.If you’ve ever thought about opening your home to a dog who truly needs a second chance, Barkley is ready to be that dog. With a little patience and a lot of love, you can show him what it feels like to be safe and cherished. Please consider fostering or adopting Barkley and giving him the quiet, comforting space he deserves to heal and finally begin his new life.

Story
Ollie is estimated to be about 10 months old (9-24). We sure think he looks like a Mountain Cur. This breed is considered rare but are quite common in South. His foster reports that is much calmer and more gentle than expected. He is great puppy manners! The Mountain Curs are well-loved family dogs who thrive in the right environment, getting along great with kids and other dogs. Their high energy levels make them best suited for an active family where ample exercise and mental stimulation will be provided. Mountain Curs are known for their intelligence, tenacity, and high energy levels. Thanks to their history of working side-by-side with pioneers, they have a strong work ethic and thrive when given a job to do.Their short, dense coat requires minimal grooming, making them a relatively low-maintenance breed. However, their high energy levels mean they need regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Mountain Cur dogs do best in a home with an active, outdoorsy family who spends their weekends hiking, hunting, or just hanging out in their fenced-in yard. This dog is sheltered in a foster based, nonprofit rescue. The Adoption Fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea, Tick and Heartworm Treatment and Prevention, and Sheltering. Adult Dogs are Heartworm Tested and Treated as Needed. FOCCAS does not DNA test or guarantee breed. Thank You for Your Interest in Adopting a Canine Companion from Foccas-tn.
