Story
Clover is very sweet, she is almost 2 years old and about 30lbs. She lived in Texas for her first 1.5 years and then hitched a ride with 30 other pups to Illinois to find a furever home. Clover is quiet, has only barked a few times but she was mostly following along with her loud foster brother. Clover likes to get belly scratches and she will show you how much she loves you by licking you. Clover is very smart and got the hang of the potty schedule in a few days. She occasionally has let herself out too by opening the screen door of the sliding glass window. She has run out to an unfenced grassy area but never goes very far. She doesn't like loud noises it scares her, but she has definitely gained a lot of confidence in the first couple weeks she was in her foster home. She gets really energetic when she goes outside and jumps around. Clover does well in a crate and also likes to take naps on the couch. Clover was not very comfortable with taking a bath using the shower head but if you use a cup and pour water on her she felt better and didn't try jumping out of the bathtub anymore. She also got very nervous when foster mom turned on the hose to water the plants. She loves going outside and tries to jump right out as soon as the door opens, she is learning to wait for the door to open and not try to bust through. She has visited the dog park and was very playful and made new friends quickly. Clover is very fast and slides around like a baseball player sliding into home plate, she also rolls around very quickly to fake out her friends that are chasing her. She also does a cute army type crawl. When Clover learned where foster mom was hiding the treats, she opened up the door and took the bag out, did I mention how smart she is. When she was told not to sneak out treats, she hasn't done it again. Clover lives with 2 kids ages 11 and 13 and 70 lb foster brother. She likes to jump on foster brother and get him to play. She has slowly learned how to play tug-o-war with foster brother, but mostly likes to run around and wear foster brother out. Story
Meet Kenji (aka Ginger)! 🐾 This sweet 4- to 5-year-old cur mix, weighing around 40 pounds, is looking for her forever family. Kenji has been affectionately nicknamed Ginger by her foster mom, and she’s thriving in her foster home. Kenji is already housebroken and loves following her human around. She’s fantastic with kids, happily living with 11- and 7-year-olds, and was a star with a visiting 3-year-old. She currently shares her home with a small foster dog brother. While her momma-dog instincts occasionally come through to keep him in line, they are getting along well. She hasn’t yet been introduced to cats. At night, Kenji is a dream sleeper—she rests quietly in her crate without a peep. During the day, she enjoys zooming around the fenced yard but is equally happy curling up indoors for long naps near her favorite humans. Kenji is shy with new people but quickly warms up into a loving and cuddly companion. She is gentle when taking treats, learning her basic commands, and starting to figure out the fun of toys. She has about two weeks of activity restriction left as she finishes heartworm treatment but is doing great and ready to bring her gentle, loyal energy to your home. Could Kenji (or Ginger!) be the perfect fit for your family? Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Hello, I’m Tony (Anthony)! I am a playful and smart 1.5 year old Mountain Cur mix with a handsome brindle coat. I am just over 40 pounds, making me the perfect medium sized pup. I had a rough start down in Texas, but got a second chance at life thanks to Safe Haven and my foster family! When I arrived to my foster home, I knew no basic commands. I now know “sit”, “shake”, “down”, “leave it”, and “speak”! I am completely housebroken and crate trained. Most nights I snuggle with my foster family in bed, but I also find comfort in my crate and will sleep soundly in there throughout the night. I love my foster family’s resident dogs and get along and play respectfully with them. Tug of war is my favorite! I also do pretty well on a leash and love to take walks. I enjoy lick mats, snuffle mats, and enrichment puzzles to keep my mind busy too. While I have learned to respect my foster family’s resident cats, I would probably do best in a home without them. I would, however, thrive in a home with another playful pup! I have not met any kids, so I’m not sure how I would do with them. I am still getting socialized and am a little weary with strangers, but if you give me treats I warm up pretty quickly! If you are ready for a loyal and playful companion, I just may be your perfect match! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
🐶Meet Gus (Aka GusGus🐶) Gus is an 8-9 week old mixed breed 17 lb chunk of love and loyalty. When it comes to breeds, he is a mix of Mountain Cur, and whatever else makes up the most loving puppy ever. He is a super sweet and playful pup, looking for someone to match his playful personality. He loves all his puppy siblings, and all of his human foster siblings as well. He is the goodest of good boys when it comes to using his training pads and is 99% accurate, but is not yet housebroken (he's still a baby after all). Gus adores kids of all sizes and has been in a foster home with kids 4 and up. He loves everyone equally, but he knows who carries the treats and he knows who is always down for a game of fetch. He is one smart boy. Gus knows his sit command, and with time and patience, there is no doubt he will expand his list of tricks. When it comes to eating, this not so little nugget has quite the healthy appetite. He is also very routine as far as puppies are concerned, and likes to use the potty right after a meal, no doubt to make room for his training treats that come after meals in his foster home. Gus is also a puppy poster child when it comes to sleeping in his pen for the night. He does get a bit curious, but as long as he's snuggled with a stuffy, he goes to sleep. Being the playful little guy that he is, sweet Gus will do best in a home where there will be no shortage of playtime. Ideally, he would also have a fenced in yard because he loves to run free. Gus is ready to be your best friend furever, do you think he could be yours? Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Meet Boone Boone is an 8-9 week old Cur mixed breed weighing around 13 lbs. He is a very sweet pup who loves getting undivided attention. He loves playing with his siblings, but also loves getting solo cuddles. He is a genuine people lover all around. This little guy has a shy personality but is finally starting to come out of his shell more recently. He loves to play with his siblings and his foster family, and especially loves belly rubs. He is a sweet boy who is relatively quiet, unless his siblings start barking and he joins in. He prefers less chaos, more cuddles, and is very set in his ways. Boone is a good sleeper who goes to bed without issue and is very routine. When it comes to his training pads, he needs a little bit of reinforcement. He uses the pads to the best of his abilities, but is best when there is no one around him. He prefers not to share a potty space with his siblings, and is about 75% accurate with his training pads. When it comes to eating, Boone is a very good boy. He greatly benefits from a slow feeder, but will still take his time eating without one. Boone is a very loving and cuddly companion and would do well in a home with kids of any age. He is very docile in demeanor and would do well in almost any home. He would love a home with kids, but he will do well with anyone who has time to play with him. Can you see yourself being Boone's new best friend? 🐶Meet Cali 🐶 Hi, I'm Cali! I'm an 8-9 week old puppy weighing about 12 lbs. I bet you're wondering what kind of dog I am, so I hope you're looking deep into my big brown puppy dog eyes when I tell you this: the shelter in Texas said my mom was a Mountain Cur. My foster mom on the other hand, isn't so sure. She said it's okay though because the right fit will love me for me, no matter my breed. Now, back to my eyes. Are you looking at them thinking "oh my goodness that is the sweetest little girl and I just want to cuddle her?" It's probably because it's true. I am the sweetest girl, and I love to be cuddled. Sometimes my foster mom tries to get chores done and when I make a sad little puppy face she can't resist me. So, I'm hopeful I will find someone who loves to love on me and maybe lets me sneak on the couch for some cuddles too. In addition to being a great cuddler, I am also the queen of tug o war. Maybe my foster siblings let me win, maybe I'm just that great. I think it's probably the later. Also on the list of things I'm great at: using my training pads. I am 95% accurate with using my potty pads. I take great pride in being a good girl for my foster family. My greatest attribute is no doubt my sweet demeanor, but I am so much more than that. I'm a puppy, so I'm teething, and I need someone who will play with me to keep me stimulated. I am a big fan of enrichment toys and I can keep myself busy too. I sleep well in my pen and I love cuddling up with a good blanket and a stuffy at night time. I'm just a girl looking for my people. I know you're out there somewhere, and I would love to show you how great I really am. Can you see me fitting into your family (again, look into my eyes)? Story
Kora - Female Mountain/Pitt (pocket) Mix (BREED IS STRICTLY BEST GUESS ONLY) Date of Birth. 4/30/2024 Weight 35lbs FENCED IN YARD RECOMMENDED Meet Kora. Poor baby didn’t have a great start in life. We believe her original owner dumped her at the shelter (claimed she was a stray) in horrific condition. Her skin was riddled with demadex mange and she was very frightful. Luckily the angels at the shelter treated her mange and gave her much needed assurance that all humans aren’t bad. She was lucky enough a wonderful foster stepped up, and she got on the freedom ride transport to Illinois and is now looking for her forever home. Here’s a bio from her foster mom. She’s great with other dogs, very sweet and cuddles, (she’s shy to start but warms up quickly) she’s about 100% house broken, (we have only had two accidents with her) She can get startled by new things or noises since she’s never been in a real home, but she’s getting more and more comfortable everyday. We are working on recall, she does well with correction noises when she has something she should not. She is great about sharing toys and Nyla bones… very food motivated, which is making training easier. She’s crate trained (doesn’t mind the crate) and doing very well learning to walk on a leash. If Kora seems like a perfect fit and you have patience to show her the world is not as scary as she thinks, please visit the rescue website www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org for requirements, process and applications. WE DO NOT DO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS Thank you for considering the adoption of one of our rescue dogs. We are committed to finding our rescues the perfect home. Together we can make a difference in the life of a dog. The adoption process should be a fun and exciting time for families and dogs. Our goal is to place our babies in forever homes. The potential adopter needs to be dedicated to their care and training for life. Understand that sharing your life with a dog can be a commitment of 15+ years. This would include feeding, exercise, training, vetting, and providing a loving home. Ask yourself, "Am I ready for this type of commitment?" If you are ready, we are here to help. We do have some requirements to help us find the perfect placement of our babies. WE ARE A FOSTER BASED RESCUE ONLY. WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL BUILDING 1. Only a final approval for adoption can take place after a successful meet and greet. This is done by appointments only. We will not proceed with the adoption if everyone has not met the dog. This will allow others the opportunity to adopt the dog. 2. Adopters MUST be 25 years old. Information on all adults/members living in the home is required We REQUIRE you to provide proof and vet reference that all current and past pets have been kept up to date on all routine medical. 3. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption. This girl was found as a stray and her owners refused to come pick her up so she is in search of another home. She is a sweet lady, a bit shy, but friendly. She is out of any puppy energy phase but does still like to play and she does get the zoomies. She was house-trained so would need to relearn it. She does well in a car and is okay on a leash. She does not get along with smaller dogs and probably not a fan of cats. She will need time to warm up to a person but is just a sweetheart when she knows you! She would be wonderful as a walking companion and lounge buddy. She is in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders.

Ollie is estimated to be about 10 months old (9-24). We sure think he looks like a Mountain Cur. This breed is considered rare but are quite common in South. His foster reports that is much calmer and gentler than expected. He is great puppy manners! The Mountain Curs are well-loved family dogs who thrive in the right environment, getting along great with kids and other dogs. Their high energy levels make them best suited for an active family where ample exercise and mental stimulation will be provided. Mountain Curs are known for their intelligence, tenacity, and high energy levels. Thanks to their history of working side-by-side with pioneers, they have a strong work ethic and thrive when given a job to do.Their short, dense coat requires minimal grooming, making them a relatively low-maintenance breed. However, their high energy levels mean they need regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Mountain Cur dogs do best in a home with an active, outdoorsy family who spends their weekends hiking, hunting, or just hanging out in their fenced-in yard.FOCCAS is a foster based, non-profit rescue in Crossville, TN. The adoption fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea/Tick/Heartworm Prevention, and Sheltering. Adult Dogs are Heartworm Tested and Treated as Needed. FOCCAS does not DNA test or guarantee breed. My adoption fee (if picked up locally in Crossville, Tennessee) is $275. Story
Hi, I’m Lily! I’m a young pointer mix who is 48 lbs. I am still energetic but also affectionate with so much love to give. I recently made a life-saving journey from a Texas kill shelter to my foster family in Illinois, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this second chance after being dumped at 1 by my family in Texas for being too big. Despite my tough start, I’m full of resilience, charm, and excitement to meet my forever family. So far, I haven’t met many strangers outside of my foster family, but when I arrived, I was instantly curious and excited to introduce myself. My foster family includes an adult male, two adult females, a 4-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl. I get along with everyone, including the little ones who love to shower me with pets and scratches—as long as they’re gentle with me. I also share my home with two dog foster siblings—an older, bigger male dog and a younger, smaller female one. I love roughhousing and wrestling with both of them, but I need my family to help regulating my energy so playtime doesn’t get too rowdy. I enjoy chewing on toys and bones, but I like having my own space during chew time because I can get a little possessive because I’m still learning I will always have food. Sometimes, I do get jealous when I see my foster siblings getting attention, but a little reassurance is all I need to remember there’s plenty of love to go around. I need my family to understand I sometimes need to go slow until I fully know I am safe and loved. When I hear or see other dogs outside, I can’t help but bark and become intrigued. With a quick reminder that everything is ok, I’m back to minding my own business. Meeting new dog friends on a walk is the best way for me to slowly get to know them. Affection is my love language! I’m a total cuddlebug who loves giving hugs, resting my head on your lap or chest, sharing kisses, and snuggling up whenever I can. There’s no limit to the amount of love and cuddles I’m ready to share, so don’t hold back—I’ll return the favor. I can also relax on my own if you’re busy by napping nearby while you watch TV or work. But if you move, I’ll follow you everywhere like your shadow to keep you company. I need an active family to help me with daily exercise. A fenced yard would be amazing for running around and getting my zoomies out, and daily walks (or even runs) are a must for me! I’m still learning leash manners and sometimes pull because I’m so excited to explore. With patience and a few breaks to settle down, I know I’ll get the hang of it. I’d love to go on adventures in the car, play fetch in the yard, or just explore the world by your side. I’m working on basic commands like “sit,” “drop it,” and “off,” and I respond really well to treats, which makes training more fun for both of us. I’m a smart and eager learner, so with consistent guidance, I know I’ll keep making progress. I’m also working on being fully house-trained. I still have occasional accidents in my crate if left for a long time - I sometimes get scared no one is coming back. With consistent eating and potty schedule, I will improve every day. Positive reinforcement, like treats and praise for going potty outside, builds my confidence and keeps me motivated. I currently eat twice a day—in the morning and at night—in my crate to separate me from others. I also use my crate when no one is home and at bedtime (with a bed inside), and while it’s not my favorite place by any means (I sometimes complain for a few minutes but settle down), a treat or toy to distract me before going in helps me settle down. I’d thrive in a family that is home often and maybe another dog. I need someone who’s willing to invest time and patience I deserve in my ongoing training and learning. In return, I’ll fill your life with unconditional love, joy, and endless cuddles. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion to share your adventures and brighten your days, I just might be the perfect match! Apply to meet me today! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). .
