Story
Sweet Pea - Female Mountain Cur/Hound/Lab Mix (BREED IS BEST GUESS ONLY) Current weight 38 pounds Estimated Date of Birth 6/1/23 Meet Sweet Pea (Black mouth Cur/ Hound mix) Is Sweet Pea made of sugar? Could be! She certainly is full of love for people, dogs, food, and playtime. She bounces and bounds with happiness but will moderate her energy to match her playmate. Fenced in yard highly recommended and would do well in an active family. She loves playing, walking. Though not fond of the crate she will eventually settle when in it. She’s a very quick learner and with being food motivated training is coming along quite quickly. She loves all people and has zero issues with other dogs. (Cats unknown) Here’s what her foster family has to say about her. Sweet Pea is a sweet and affectionate beauty looking for her furever home. She is great with other dogs, her foster family recommends a doggie sibling close to own age and size for play because this girl loves to play! She is intelligent and learns quickly. She has been a very good girl for her foster family and could make a great addition for your family!… If Sweet Pea sounds like a great fit for your family please visit the rescue website www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org for requirements, process and applications. WE DO NOT DO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS Thank you for considering the adoption of one of our rescue dogs. We are committed to finding our rescues the perfect home. Together we can make a difference in the life of a dog. The adoption process should be a fun and exciting time for families and dogs. Our goal is to place our babies in forever homes. The potential adopter needs to be dedicated to their care and training for life. Understand that sharing your life with a dog can be a commitment of 15+ years. This would include feeding, exercise, training, vetting, and providing a loving home. Ask yourself, "Am I ready for this type of commitment?" If you are ready, we are here to help. We do have some requirements to help us find the perfect placement of our babies. WE ARE A FOSTER BASED RESCUE ONLY. WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL BUILDING 1. This will allow others the opportunity to adopt the dog. 2. Adopters MUST be 25 years old. Information on all adults/members living in the home is required We REQUIRE you to provide proof and vet reference that all current and past pets have been kept up to date on all routine medical. 3. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, 4. If you do not own your home, you must provide landlord contact information on the application and a copy of your lease that outlines the rules for dog ownership in your residence. Large breed dogs will not be adopted into apartment settings or where there are breed/ size restrictions. Story
Ollie is estimated to be about 8 months old (9-24). We sure think he looks like a Mountain Cur. This breed is considered rare but are quite common in South. His foster reports that is much calmer and more gentle than expected. He is great puppy manners! The Mountain Curs are well-loved family dogs who thrive in the right environment, getting along great with kids and other dogs. Their high energy levels make them best suited for an active family where ample exercise and mental stimulation will be provided. Mountain Curs are known for their intelligence, tenacity, and high energy levels. Thanks to their history of working side-by-side with pioneers, they have a strong work ethic and thrive when given a job to do.Their short, dense coat requires minimal grooming, making them a relatively low-maintenance breed. However, their high energy levels mean they need regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Mountain Cur dogs do best in a home with an active, outdoorsy family who spends their weekends hiking, hunting, or just hanging out in their fenced-in yard. This dog is sheltered in a foster based, nonprofit rescue. The Adoption Fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea, Tick and Heartworm Treatment and Prevention, and Sheltering. Adult Dogs are Heartworm Tested and Treated as Needed. FOCCAS does not DNA test or guarantee breed. Story
Clover is very sweet, she is almost 2 years old and about 30lbs. She lived in Texas for her first 1.5 years and then hitched a ride with 30 other pups to Illinois to find a furever home. Clover is quiet, has only barked a few times but she was mostly following along with her loud foster brother. Clover likes to get belly scratches and she will show you how much she loves you by licking you. Clover is very smart and got the hang of the potty schedule in a few days. She occasionally has let herself out too by opening the screen door of the sliding glass window. She has run out to an unfenced grassy area but never goes very far. She doesn't like loud noises it scares her, but she has definitely gained a lot of confidence in the first couple weeks she was in her foster home. She gets really energetic when she goes outside and jumps around. Clover does well in a crate and also likes to take naps on the couch. Clover was not very comfortable with taking a bath using the shower head but if you use a cup and pour water on her she felt better and didn't try jumping out of the bathtub anymore. She also got very nervous when foster mom turned on the hose to water the plants. She loves going outside and tries to jump right out as soon as the door opens, she is learning to wait for the door to open and not try to bust through. She has visited the dog park and was very playful and made new friends quickly. Clover is very fast and slides around like a baseball player sliding into home plate, she also rolls around very quickly to fake out her friends that are chasing her. She also does a cute army type crawl. When Clover learned where foster mom was hiding the treats, she opened up the door and took the bag out, did I mention how smart she is. When she was told not to sneak out treats, she hasn't done it again. Clover lives with 2 kids ages 11 and 13 and 70 lb foster brother. She likes to jump on foster brother and get him to play. She has slowly learned how to play tug-o-war with foster brother, but mostly likes to run around and wear foster brother out. Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. Her foster family has been calling her Piper, but she also answers to Pecan Brittle—and she’s as sweet as her name suggests! Piper adores wrestling with her foster brother and would thrive in a home with other playful dog friends or a high-energy family to keep her busy. Story
Sammy is a sweet, 8 year old Pointer Mix, possibly a bit of a Lab Mix, estimated to be 45 lbs. Prior to joining BAARK, Sammy was bounced around until he reached his foster home. It takes a bit of time for Sammy to warm up to people he does not know, but once he gets to know you, he is your best friend! He enjoys being petted, and snuggling next to his person. He loves to chew bones and play with (tear apart!!) soft toys. He is not too fond of sharing his toys, however, and prefers to hide them when not playing. Sammy is afraid of loud noises and can be startled by quick movements, as well. He gets long with most dogs, but would definitely do best with a female dog friend. He’d enjoy being an only dog too. A family with older children or an all-adult home would be great, but smaller children might scare Sammy. He is housebroken, and can be left free-roaming when home alone. Sammy is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, has had recent bloodwork, is heartworm negative and is on year-round heartworm prevention. He is also neutered and microchipped. If you would like to add Sammy to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Billie is an adorable young mix, thought to be a Pointer/Aussie/Lab mix. She’s about 44 lbs, a bit on the lean side currently. And estimated at 4 years old. Billie joined us from a very horrible neglectful situation. She along with eight other dogs was rescued from a trailer, after the owner of the trailer was taken to a mental health facility. All dogs were starved; two were starved to death. Billie was one of the survivors, but barely so. She was skin and bones when joining our rescue program….and a look of hopelessness filled her eyes. During the last several weeks that Billie has been in her BAARK foster home, she has made notable progress, gaining weight, looking better, feeling more confident, and showing us some pep in her step! She’s even starting to play with other dogs. An ideal home and family for Billie is one who can understand her past and give her the time and space she needs to continue to build her confidence, and blossom into a loving, playful girl that she deserves to be. Good nutrition is very important given her past. Billie obviously is good with other dogs but the preferred home for Billie would be as an only dog, or with another calm friendly dog. She’d love a secure fenced yard where she could run, play, and exercise. She is scared of quick movements at this time, so smaller children would likely be overwhelming to her; older children should be fine. If you would like to consider Billie for a member of your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. Note that BAARK is located in the NW Suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to our area.
