Story
Meet Penny, a 1-year-old Mini Schnauzer with a big personality packed into a small frame. This playful girl loves romping around the yard and going for walks, but she’s also a champion snuggler when it’s time to unwind. She’s crate and house-trained, and though she’s still got that puppy energy, she’s smart and picking up new commands quickly.
Penny’s foster says she’s a curious and active pup who’s always on the lookout for new friends. She’ll happily approach any dog looking for a new BFF, though she’s still learning the ropes of polite greetings. With a little guidance, she generally respects other dogs' cues when they need more space. She’s great with the older dog and the school-age kiddo in her foster home.
Penny’s got a goofy side that’ll keep you smiling and a cuddly side that’ll warm your heart. With her unique cleft lip— which doesn’t slow her down one bit—she’s got a one-of-a-kind look that only adds to her charm.
She doesn't seem to have had formal training, but Penny’s eager to learn. We are looking for a local adopter who will join her in our positive reinforcement class - Canine 101 at GDU. She’s young, full of potential, and ready for a home that can provide the structure and love she needs.

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
