Story
Claudette is a gentle Schnauzer, weighing 21 pounds, with a heart as big as her adorably scruffy beard. Because Claudette has an unhappy past, she is timid, unsure of the world around her. With time, patience, and plenty of love, she has been learning that people are good and can be trusted—especially if they have something delicious in hand! She needs extra patience and understanding and her future family will need to give her the space and time she needs to build trust, knowing that her heart will open more each day as she feels safe and loved.Although Claudette is cautious around new people, she finds comfort in the presence of other dogs; she is happiest when she has a doggy companion or two by her side. Their company helps her feel more secure and helps her continue to grow in confidence. In her current foster home, her pen is her ‘safe space,’ but if she is left alone for long periods of time, she feels a little anxious. A Kong filled with her favorite treats, a licky pad smeared with something yummy, or a snuffle mat to hunt for hidden goodies help keep her entertained and content while her foster family is away.Claudette does not yet walk on leash, but she thrives when she has a fenced yard to explore. Like all good Schnauzers, she likes to run around and sniff every corner. A secure, enclosed space gives her the freedom to enjoy nature while staying safe, and it’s one of her favorite places to unwind and burn off energy. Having a fenced yard is essential for her peace of mind, allowing her to stretch her legs and enjoy the fresh air without worry.Claudette is looking for a patient, quiet, loving home where she can continue to grow at her own pace. She thrives in a calm environment and is ready to become the best dog she can be, with the right guidance and understanding. Her future family will be committed to helping her along the way, knowing that with kindness, plenty of treats, and lots of love, she will continue to blossom into the confident, loving dog she was always meant to be.
