Story
Meet Gemma! This petite 13 lb female miniature schnauzer has quite the personality and spunk you would never guess. In October, she was rescued from a horrific, illegal puppy mill in Busan where she was forced to breed continuously under dire conditions. Gemma is one of almost 600 dogs saved through the efforts of Korean K9 Rescue and our incredible partners. Now thriving in foster care, Gemma is looking for her forever family. Watch her rescue here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pH4y4l8j2RE Adopting a puppy mill survivor like Gemma has unique rewards and responsibilities. She has shown incredible resilience and a bright spirit, but dogs from these backgrounds often require patience and time to decompress and adjust to a loving home. While Gemma is currently healthy and has received excellent veterinary care, potential adopters should be aware of the genetic predispositions common in dogs from such environments, back disease (IVDD) common with the dachshund breed, including luxating patellas, heart conditions, dental issues, etc., that could arise later in life, and prepare both financially and mentally to help Gemma live an everyday happy life.    Meet all our adoptable dogs this weekend!  Saturday, Dec 21stPetco Turtle Bay 991 Second Ave (Manhattan) Pre-approved: 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm General Public: 12:30 pm - 4:00 pmSunday, Dec 22nd KK9R Office - Astoria 24-07 31st St (Queens) Pre-approved: 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm General Public: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm   We encourage you to submit your adoption application before the events for pre-approval. Story
Ares, a 1.5-year-old male, has the stunning look of a mix of a Schnauzer and a Poodle. This handsome boy is an eye-catcher and his personality warms up your heart. He is affectionate, gentle, and loving. He was found roaming around a busy street, confused and scared. A Good Samaritan recognized that he was in distress and brought him to our partner shelter SOS El Arca Animal Rescue. Soon we discovered that the reason he acted so scared is that he is completely deaf. We don’t know why he ended up on the street as he wasn’t claimed, but we know he is ready for a loving home. A busy shelter is too stressful for this little munchkin. He would do best in a home with a fenced-in backyard. He needs a safe and steady environment with a consistent schedule to make him feel secure. Ares is very friendly, gets along well with other dogs,  and is neutral towards cats. He is crate trained and his potty training has begun and would need to be continued by the adopter. He is currently being fostered in CT and his foster parents started teaching Ares commends using a PetSafe vibrating collar. He is doing great at his foster home playing with his mates : two dogs and two cats. Ares is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. His current weight is 16 lbs. Are you the one for Ares? Please fill out an adoption application at www.sosanimalwelfare.org, or email us for more info: sosanimalwelfare@gmail.com We will happily get back to you!
