Story
- Winnie’s keen and lively nature makes her courageous and possessive. Barking and strong defensive instincts are part of her personality. - When encountering strangers or other dogs, she often expresses herself with a confident bark, but she is incredibly loyal and gentle with those she trusts. - She is trained to use pee pads, but we usually take her out three times a day to ensure she gets enough potty breaks and exercise. - Winnie loves long walks and playing with her toys. - She is extremely friendly to those she trusts, but building that trust takes time due to her sensitive nature. - She is very affectionate and craves attention, so an owner with a flexible schedule would be ideal for her.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, February 8th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.     Adoption Fee: $700 *Cassanova is an option for Foster-to-Adopt!*   Cassanova is a 1 year old Yorkie x Miniature Schnauzer mix who can’t wait to charm his forever people with one flutter of his puppy dog eyes! Casanova was rescued from the shelter when they reached out for assistance due to a lack of space. We agreed to take in Cassanova and a few of his canine companions and a few hours later they were on their shelter jailbreak ride and into the arms of their foster humans! Casanova weighs 22 pounds and is just the most perfect little gentleman on the planet! He effortlessly wins over everyone he meets and we know he will bring a lifetime of memories to the family lucky enough to bring him home! If you’ve been looking for some loving ahead of the holiday season, bring home Cassanova today!      Casanova is exuberance personified according to his foster mom. He adores his humans and he is just so excited to explore the world outside his front door. Casanova loves showing off his goofiness, zooming around the yard with his numerous plush toys as he plays fetch for as long as you will let him! However, he also loves to kick up his paws and relax on the couch, getting cuddles from those he adores. Casanova has a ton of playful energy and he loves emptying out the toy box to choose the toy he wants to play with for the day. Toys don’t stand a chance against Mr. Shredder, so prepare for lots of squeaky destruction at his hand. We think he would be a great dog to take on adventures, especially on hikes and longer walks as he loves to get out and explore with his humans by his side. Casanova is very food motivated which will make training a blast. In fact, his foster mom swears he can understand her when she speaks to him in Spanish which is a first for us! This little man seems to have had a very full life before he joined our rescue and we can’t wait to hear all the stories he gets up to next! For those who know the Schnauzer breed, you know how smart they are, so he will keep you on your toes but in the best way possible! This dude will steal your heart from the minute you meet him.  Casanova wakes up between 7-9 AM depending on the day. He goes into the backyard for potty and exploration for a bit before coming inside for breakfast. He then hangs out in the living room and in the backyard for a few hours, checking out every toy in the toy box and snoozing on one of his various dog beds. He plays some fetch in the afternoon before his afternoon stroll around the neighborhood. He gets dinner between 5-6 PM and then explores the backyard some more to get out the last of his zoomies before he starts to wind down for the night. He gets some snuggles in the living room until around 9 PM when he heads into his crate for the night.   Casanova currently lives with a dog and they get along well, though he would love a playful companion in his forever home. He could use some work on his manners because sometimes he comes on a little strong, but he is easy to train! He is still working on his leash walking skills but responds well to correction. Casanova would benefit from a home prepared to find an outlet for his energy so he can be the best boy we know he is. Casanova gets along very well with humans of all ages and would be an amazing fit for an active family ready to make him part of the action. If you’ve been looking for the other half of your heart, adopt Cassanova!     Casanova is only an option for homes who have owned a dog of their own in the past. Kids should be over the age of 7. February 10, 2025, 5:41 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600 Meet Sardine: The Sassy, Loveable Pup with Personality for Days! *Sardine is an option for FTA!* Introducing Sardine, a 1-2-year-old, 25lb bundle of sass, spunk, and sweetness. This cutie was rescued from the shelter, and while he’s still figuring out the rules of the world, he's quickly proving to be the kind of dog that keeps life interesting. Sardine has a non-shedding coat, making him ideal for allergy sufferers or anyone who just doesn’t want to deal with dog hair all over the house. But don’t be fooled by his sleek, clean exterior—this guy's got personality in spades. Sardine is ready to take over your home and your heart, but be warned: he's got a bit of an attitude, and he’s not afraid to show it. Are you up for the challenge? A Day in the Life of Sardine: Sardine's day starts promptly at 7:30 AM (because, of course, he’s got a schedule). First thing’s first, he heads to the yard for his morning 'business,' then it's time for a nice walk, followed by a solid breakfast. Sardine’s routine includes three walks a day—after breakfast, lunch, and dinner—so he’s staying fit and fabulous. He’ll entertain himself for a couple of hours, but don’t get too comfortable—he’ll want attention every 3-4 hours, or else he’ll start giving you the 'how dare you ignore me?' look. He likes to chill in the backyard when he's not hanging out inside with his humans, and when it’s bedtime, he heads to his crate (even though he’s still getting used to it, he’s a champ). Sardine’s nighttime routine might include some little protest barks, but don’t worry—he’ll be ready to snuggle in the morning. The Sassy Side of Sardine: Now let’s talk about Sardine’s personality. This boy is full of energy and has a slightly rebellious streak. He loves being around people, following you from room to room, and generally making sure you’re aware of his presence. He’s not a 'sit quietly' type of dog—nope, Sardine is more of a 'I need attention NOW!' kind of guy. He’ll get up close and personal for some cuddles, but he’s still learning boundaries, so watch out for the occasional bark or growl if he’s feeling a bit too spoiled. (Trust us, you’ll know when it’s time for a break from the cuddle sessions!) Sardine needs a home with an experienced dog owner who can set clear rules and provide structure. He’s very smart, quick to learn, and will flourish under the right guidance. He’s not afraid to speak his mind, whether it’s barking at the sight of another dog on his walks or expressing his 'I’m not happy with this situation' opinion. But don’t let that scare you—he’s also incredibly affectionate and loyal once he trusts you. Is Sardine the Right Fit for You? Sardine is looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who’s ready to take on a fun, energetic, and occasionally cheeky dog. He needs someone who can help him with socialization—he's a bit of a 'work in progress' when it comes to meeting new dogs, so a home with a confident, well-behaved dog to lead him would be ideal. He’s also fine around kids, but would do best in a home where the children understand he’s still figuring out some of his social skills. If you’ve got the patience, the time, and the heart for a dog like Sardine, you’ll be rewarded with a loyal companion who will keep you on your toes, laughing, and always coming back for more. He's ready to join a home where he can shine and show everyone just how awesome he truly is! A Funny Sardine Story: One of Sardine's most memorable moments was when he had an 'oops' moment in the living room. After he had an accident (yep, the dreaded poop in the house), Sardine immediately understood he had messed up. He crouched down behind the couch, clearly hiding because he knew he was in trouble. But here’s the thing—he quickly learned from the mistake and was back on track. That’s Sardine in a nutshell: he might have a few hiccups along the way, but he’s smart, quick to learn, and knows how to make things right. Are you ready for the Sardine experience? He's waiting for a home that will embrace his sass, his smarts, and his loving nature. Adopt Sardine today and let the fun (and the cuddles) begin!Sardine is only an option for a home that has had a dog previously. If there are children they need to be over the age of 8. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $700 Meet Stuart Little: The Tiny Dog with a Giant Personality Stuart Little may only weigh 9lbs, but his heart and spirit are as big as any dog’s! This 2 year old Miniature Schnauzer mix has had a rough start, but now he’s living his best life in his foster home, enjoying the simple pleasures—like naps on the couch, sunbathing, and taking peaceful walks with his senior dog sister. Stuart is low-maintenance, calm, and absolutely adorable, with a sweet underbite that’s impossible to resist. He’s a great fit for someone who wants a lovable companion that’s content just being by your side. A Day in the Life of Stuart Little Stuart’s days are peaceful, relaxed, and full of cozy moments. He gets up around 7:30–8am, starts the day with a potty break, and then takes his sweet time before breakfast (he’s not in any rush, but he does love a little kibble when the mood strikes). His meals are served at 9am, but he’s not one to gobble them down immediately—he’s more of a slow eater, which just adds to his relaxed demeanor. Stuart enjoys 2–3 short walks a day, always happily accompanying his blind Bichon buddy. Whether it's a morning stroll or a midnight walk under the stars, Stuart’s down for whatever—though he prefers not to go solo. He loves hanging out in the living room, curled up on the couch, lounging under the table, or snuggling up on a pillow (he’s also been known to follow his foster mom upstairs and curl up on her bed, just to stay close). When dinner time rolls around, Stuart eats around 6:30, and if he finishes his bowl early, he’s a patient little guy, sitting quietly by the empty bowl and waiting for a bit more. Stuart’s Personality: A Calm, Cool, and Collected Companion When Stuart first arrived in his foster home, he was understandably a bit timid, but it didn’t take long for him to warm up. He’s a quiet, reserved little guy—no barking unless startled, and even then, it’s short-lived. Stuart is happy to be held, but he’s not overly demanding. He’s not much of a snuggler, but he’ll gladly hop into your lap if you’re watching TV or working on your laptop. Stuart isn’t particularly interested in toys (unless there’s cheese involved), but he does love treats—especially cream cheese and Havarti, so if you’re looking to win him over, those will do the trick! He’s friendly, but a little shy with new people, and he loves watching the squirrels and birds outside from his perch on the balcony. His idea of a good time? A sunny spot in the yard, where he can relax and soak up some rays. Stuart is incredibly adaptable; whether it’s a car ride, hanging out with friends, or taking a leisurely walk, he’s always down for an adventure… as long as there’s a little relaxation afterward. Why Stuart is the Perfect Companion Stuart is the definition of low maintenance, and he’s ready to find his forever home with someone who wants a calm and quiet companion. Whether you live in an apartment or a house, Stuart will fit right in. He doesn’t need constant attention, but he’s always happy to be with you. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big heart who is content lounging by your side but will also happily join you for a stroll or visit to a friend’s house, Stuart’s your guy. He’s easygoing, adaptable, and—let’s not forget—completely adorable. Whether he’s curled up under a chair or soaking in the sunshine, Stuart makes every moment sweeter. And with his charming underbite, he’s got the cuteness factor down to a science! A Little Extra Stuart Magic If you’re wondering what’s so special about Stuart, let me tell you—he’s a dog who knows how to make himself comfortable. After all, who else could escape a doughnut collar within an hour? (He may be small, but he’s got some serious skills!) But beyond his cleverness and adorable quirks, Stuart has a heart of gold. He’s low-maintenance but full of love. He’s not one to demand attention, but he’ll shower you with loyalty, companionship, and joy. If you’re looking for a laid-back, sweet little companion to complete your family, look no further—Stuart Little is waiting to be your new best friend. Don’t miss out on this little guy who’ll steal your heart with his big personality. Come meet Stuart and let him show you what true love looks like in a tiny package! This dog is an option for a home that has limited or vast experience with dogs. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Ben is a 10-12 month old Terrier/Schnauzer mix with a heart as big as his curiosity. He weighs about 18 lbs. From his first day in his foster home, it was clear that he just wanted to be close to his people. Though he started out sleeping in a crate next to the bed, after a week, he earned a spot at the foot of the bed, where he now sleeps soundly through the night!   Mornings start with a walk around the block, where Ben does his business and greets the world with his usual friendly, inquisitive energy. Afterward, it’s breakfast time around 9 AM. With three people working from home, Ben is never alone, though he’s learned to be quite independent— lounging on the couch while we work, popping in now and then for a quick hello or playtime. He’s low-maintenance, well-trained, and just an all-around good boy.   Evenings are for winding down in the living room, where Ben happily snuggles up while we watch TV. He gets a long walk at night, which he enjoys just as much as his daytime outings. He’s smart, affectionate, and picks up on tone, commands, and body language with ease. He walks well on a leash (even if he occasionally gets his legs tangled!) and approaches both dogs and people with friendly curiosity.   Perhaps the most shocking thing? He’s not a chewer, not a digger, and barely barks— just a sweet, well-behaved pup who loves to be pet, give kisses, and be part of the family. He’s got a bit of a “velcro dog” nature, but over time has learned to enjoy some alone time when he knows everyone is busy.   Simply put: Ben is a wonderful, loving, and easygoing companion who brings joy to everyone around him.   Ben is an option for almost any type of home with some prior dog experience who will continue his training; he's still a young pup! He's an option for kids over the age of 6.February 9, 2025, 9:18 pm
