Meet Butch Cassidy !! Him and his two brothers are part of our Outlaw Litter. They are some of the sweetest dogs we’ve taken in!! Really amazing dogs. (His brothers are posted separately) As a rescue we would like to politely request that breeders stop “doodling” everything 😫 These sweet dogs are overbred for profit but end up almost dying in shelters way too often. Butch is an approx 3 year old, male Basset Hound and Poodle mix. He weighs 44 pounds. He is low, long and solid. “Doodles” ARE NOT HYPOALLERGENIC!! This is a common misconception with the doodle craze. They generally have a mixed hair type of both parents. He is already neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is thankfully Heartworm negative. Butch is an awesome family dog. He has a super sweet and loving personality. He loves to crawl up in your lap and give you hugs. He’s a very good boy. He loves attention and is very friendly toward everyone. He is a huge cuddle bug and very easy to have in the house. He’s doing very well with all of his house manners. Butch does great with other dogs of all sizes. He recently spent a week in a home with a cat and he was not aggressive at all to the cat. He did at times try to play with the cat but the cat was not amused by this. He is fostered with kids and does really well with them. He’s a big lover all around. He is crate trained but he can have a little separation anxiety and whine when he first goes in his kennel or if he sees his favorite person and can’t get to them. He rides well in the car. He is doing fairly well on the leash but is still learning. He’s done fabulous with his potty training. So far we have seen no issues with him sharing food, treats or toys with humans or other dogs. Butch recently went to a home without a fence and just could not figure out to go potty on the leash. With a fenced area to potty in he is great about potty training. Without one he does not do well. He has a medium energy level so far. He has bursts of energy, loves to run in the yard and will play with others but isn’t overwhelming with his exercise needs. As long as he gets some exercise each days he’s very relaxed. He mostly loves to cuddle and snuggle. His foster had this to say about him: “ He is the biggest sweetheart and just wants to snuggle and be loved.” Overall he’s a really good boy that is ready for his new family to love. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. Fenced yard or fenced potty area required- He cant figure out going potty on the leash. PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - BENTLEY BREED - Miniature Poodle SIZE - About 12 pounds AGE - 15 years GENDER - Male MEDICAL CONCERNS - None known BEHAVIOR CONCERNS - None known SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Bentley is a lovely fellow who came to us from our favorite WV shelter partner with his buddy, Desmond, after their owner passed away. At 15 years of age, the kennel environment is not where we want these boys to spend time. Desmond is completely blind and has a lovely foster home. Bentley can see in one eye, and likely has very limited vision in the other due to cataracts. He also has no teeth, so a soft diet is required. Bentley scarfs down his food and loves life. Super sweet, Bentley loves all people, but he is a resource guarder and goes after other dogs when food is involved. Given that he has no teeth, he cannot harm them physically but he does stress them. Fully grown at just 12 pounds, Bentley is a perfect size for a companion. He is in good health, neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. We are seeking a home with an adopter who has the ability to work from home or be at home the majority of the day to spend time with Bentley. At his age, we want him to have all the attention he can handle for his golden years! A home without larger pets or small children, and with a fenced, secure yard will give Bentley room to run and play safely. A couple of weeks ago we took in several Cocker Spaniels/Cock-a-poos who had been used for breeding. They are now retired and ready to live the good life as a family pet. Xena is one of these beautiful girls. Xena is the sweetest 10 year old lady! Despite her previous living situation, she has taken to living in a home quite well. She absolutely loves getting petted and receiving attention. She has great manners and will walk to the door when she needs to go out. As you can see, Xena is a bit overweight, so she will need an active adopter. Someone who can walk her daily and encourage regular exercise. For a dog that has probably never been on a leash, she does very well. She loves going for walks and checking out the scenery. If she feels you walking too slow for her, she does give a little tug to speed up. She is currently around dogs of all sizes and does very well. She does prefer that male dogs give her space sometimes. She doesn't overreact, but she does let them know. She does great around kids as well. Xena will go in a crate but doesn't really need one. She has been spayed, micro-chipped and is up to date on vaccinations. She did test positive for heartworms so we have started her on medication. She can continue the medication in her new home which is covered by Homes Fur Hounds.
