Adoptions must be about within a reasonable commute from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit Meet Blackberry! Blackberry is a 10-year-old, 10 lb mini Poodle mix who was surrendered by his owner. He had been sadly neglected and it was time for a new beginning. Blackberry was brought into our care and immediately received a sedated shave and was neutered. It was discovered that one of his eyes was missing, and the other one was so damaged, it had to be removed. Although Blackberry is deaf as well as blind, he doesn’t miss a trick. This amazing pup can wake from a sound sleep, sniff his way across the room, and jump on the sofa to find his foster mom eating cereal without him! Blackberry is very close to being housebroken. He will wear diapers, but only if he needs to be alone for several hours. When he is kept on a schedule, he remains accident free! Blackberry can’t do stairs, but very quickly learned where the front door is and how to step down out of the house. Blackberry doesn’t require any monthly prescription medications but will take Trazadone on occasion when he needs to be alone for several hours to avoid separation anxiety. Due to being both blind and deaf, he would be happiest to have an owner who is home most of the time. He likes to know his people are near and will cry out if he feels lost. Blackberry gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t like cats. He would do best in an adult-only home or one with dog savvy children that are aware of his special needs. Blackberry walks on a leash but tends to criss cross and would be happier with a fenced-in yard. Blackberry is a super sweet pup who enjoys greeting people. He loves to have his belly rubbed, get picked up, and enjoys lots of cuddles. He happily sleeps in bed with his foster mom and is a certified couch potato. If you need an adorable, furry friend to keep you company and make you smile, please apply today!!

Story
I`m Latke! I`m a scared little doodle looking for a new home. I came in to the shelter as a stray and need lots of work and socialization. I am very fearful and nervous with new people and situations. I could potentially live in a home with older (13yo) dog savvy children. My friends at the shelter think having a confident canine companion may help me to be more sociable. I am looking for a home that can help me to become more confident and social. If you feel like you could be my people please come down the shelter and lets meet.---If you are interested in adopting, please come prepared --bring a photo ID, proof of address, and everyone in the home including resident dogs with vaccination history. We are open daily 12-6pm.---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603Kennel #16516717-917-6979lancaster@pspca.org

Story
Finley is being fostered in PA. Finley is a very sweet, gentle, 8 year old mixed breed boy who loves all people and gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is much more interested in his human and being right with his human than he is about other animals. Finley is a spry, healthy little man who was excellent for his grooming and at his first vet appointment where he had blood drawn and was given vaccines. Everyone comments on how sweet he is and his foster mom thinks he's pretty much perfect. Finley has some vision and is very able to follow his foster mom all over the house. He quickly learned how to go up stairs and he can come down them well now, unless they are new to him. He is apprehensive on unfamiliar stairs and needs help getting started but then he's fine. Finley has sporadic skin issues that seem to cause his hair to be a bit thinner on his back end and belly. These issues may be caused by seasonal allergies but we are not exactly certain of the cause yet. Finley appears to understand potty

Story
Piper is being fostered in PA. Piper is a gentle and quiet little guy who is fairly new to his foster home (January 2025). He can be found napping and usually changes beds so he makes it like a game of hide and seek to check on him. Piper is a bit skittish as far as being handled, especially with his head and face. He seems as though he's not been cuddled in a long time or else he is very timid in his new setting away from his original owner. He will take some time to learn to trust people and not pull away. If he is not being held, he does enjoy pets and scratches on his head and body, just not when being held. He is very good at finding his way around his foster home and will investigate or will follow his foster mom when it's meal time. There are also times he needs to be awakened from a deep sleep to eat. Piper is still adjusting to his new life. The first few days he would need his bedding changed about every 12 hours because he would mess in it but that has decreased to a very occasional poo on his blanket. He may always need to wear a belly band but he seems to hit the potty pads that are placed right off his beds most of the time. Piper rides well in the car but does tremble at the beginning of the ride and when taken somewhere unfamiliar. Piper needs to be carried up and down stairs. He loves to investigate outside but hasn't had much time to do that since it's been frigid where he lives and he has little hair after needing to have a matted coat shaved off for comfort. Piper is very good with small and large dogs, cats and people of all ages. Because of his skittish temperament, a home with children under 10 is not recommended for Piper. Piper's physical exam at the vet was good, however, we are watching his blood work because it is showing signs of possible kidney issues. An update will be posted as soon as we know more detailed information on this issue. His foster mom would like to add that at the shelter he was given an age of 10 years but in his foster mom's opinion she thinks he could be a bit older; It's a secret Piper's not willing to share. He is an amazing little man who just needs a little work on his timid demeanor and a wonderful, quiet home with lots of beds and blankets to snuggle into (he loves the beds next to the radiators in his foster home). His perfect family is out there and he's so excited to meet you! BDRA has voted against the use of electric fencing effective immediately.

Story
King is a 3 year old neutered male poodle who weighs 11 pounds. He was rescued with another dog and both were completed matted and needed to be shaved. King has since moved to a foster home and his foster mom says that he is so friendly and playful. He loves to play with the other dogs, loves toys, knows when it’s time to settle down and go to bed, which is nice. King is doing very well with potty training, he’s energetic and would love an active family or another dog in the home to play with. He goes in a crate when his foster is at work and he is going to make a wonderful family addition.
