MEET BLANCA! Meet Blanca, our enchanting senior miniature poodle, a true testament to resilience and joy! At the golden age of 10-11 years, Blanca was surrendered to a local veterinary clinic for euthanasia in June 2023. The staff instead reached out to City of Elderly Love for help and Blanca landed a loving foster home! It was there that she was diagnosed with diabetes which was contributing to her health issues and blindness (cataracts caused by unregulated diabetes). Blanca has since gotten very healthy, her diabetes is managed with twice daily insulin injections which she tolerates well, and she's even had her cataracts surgically removed and her vision restored! Needless to say, Blanca is a resilient little lady who can't wait to continue to live the best years of her life. Blanca is currently living in foster care with other dogs ranging from 17-97 lbs. and gets along with them well! Though she isn't afraid to just walk over them to get where she's doing or to offer a verbal correction to tell them to beat it if they're being too pushy with her. She has also spent time with cats and children, both of which she gets along well with. We do recommend she live with older children just due to her size, occasional old lady grumpiness when she's woken up (same) and her medical needs. Blanca treasures her beauty sleep and will nap several times a day. She prefers to stay around her people, including during potty breaks so she isn't really the type of dog who will happily hang out in the yard without you. Her favorite spot is right on the couch next to you! She also loves going for leisurely strolls in the neighborhood and car rides. Blanca does well when crated while you're at work! Blanca has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue. Due to her diabetes and surgery to restore her vision, Blanca does require daily medication. She receives an insulin shot with breakfast and dinner which she tolerates well. She is also on a prescription diet which helps regulate her blood sugars, and needs daily eyedrops to keep her new peepers healthy. Blanca requires more frequent potty breaks due to her diabetes and wears diapers in her foster home in case she has an accident. Blanca may require more frequent than average veterinary visits to manage her blood sugar and adjust insulin doses. Her future family will require some patience while she adjusts to their routine and schedule. Blanca is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! Meet Waldo! Waldo is a miniature poodle and appx 15 lbs. we were told he is 1-2, but based on his teeth, we *think* he is 3-4, but could be younger and just not proper care. Waldo is VERY sweet and affectionate. He seems to love everyone he meets. He gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t really care for cats. Waldo’s love language is barking. He likes his voice, a lot. He is content by your side, but he lovessss to bark at everything that moves outside off leash. Waldo will be neutered before adoption, but right now he is not and he does mark. Once he is neutered, we hope it will decrease or even eliminate this behavior, but it’s something to be aware of. He is completely crate trained. He absolutely adores children and gets so excited to get attention. He did well for the groomer too. (He currently has some red staining on his fur from chewing/licking from being infested with fleas when we got him. His fur is coming in white behind it now that he has had treatment and will be a pure white poodle as it grows.) Waldo will be neutered, vaccinated, flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention (one year ProHeart vaccine), dewormed, and microchipped with free lifetime registration.

immy is being fostered in PA. Jimmy is a special little guy, a 14 week old Mini Poodle, who was dealt a bad hand physically but nothing is stopping him from being happy and enjoying life. Jimmy is working on house breaking and coming along. We are starting to learn SIT and COME. He follows his foster Mommy all over and just loves to be with people and other pups to play with and snuggle. We call Jimmy a little goat because he likes to launch himself in the air at you or another pup. Jimmy is sight impaired, one eye did not develop and the other is smaller than normal but he does have enough sight to get around ok. Then there is his wee heart. Jimmy has two abnormalities and is being put on a beta-blocker to slow heart rate. Basically, there is a hole in the heart (VSD) and it is pushing blood through the right side into the lungs. Then, there is the pulmonic valve that is not opening enough to push blood to the lungs. So two abnormalities, but in a way working together: were one is not putting enough blood to lungs the other is putting blood to lungs. The cardiologist put Jimmy’s prognosis as guarded. He needs a re-check in 9 months to see where things stand. Possibly, at that time they can do a balloon procedure to open the valve. Also, there is a chance as he grows the hole could shrink but that is uncertain. As for Jimmy, don’t tell him he has any “issues”. He says, “I’m a puppy and I like to play with other dogs, run around chasing after my foster Mommy, and just have lots of fun. Life, bring it on”. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Maya’s a 3.5yo 10lb Poodle mix. She’s dog friendly. She’s house broken when kept on a schedule and will use a pee pad if needed. She’s good with a secure fenced in yard and/or going for harness leashed walks. She pulls a lot and is a bit skittish about loud noises but loves walks. She loves toys, fetch, people and being in their lap. She’s sweet, happy and has lots of puppy energy. Maya MUST have a home, where someone is home often, so not to be left for long periods of time, patience to allow her to warm up, allow her on furniture and laps, maintain her fur by brushing multiple times a week, groomed on a regular basis, along with people who are on board to show leadership, consistency, structure and to continue working on training. If your home DOES NOT fit this please DO NOT put an application in. We will not call anyone not a fit. Also, we will be concentrating on local to foster applications 1st since home checks and meets with all humans and animals in home is needed at meet.
