Story
A very sweet little Miniature Poodle named Zach recently joined our rescue. He is 5 years old and weighs around 12 lbs. He lived in a puppy mill all his life and has some challenges to overcome, but is making progress. Zach was very frightened when he arrived at his foster home. He shook for 3 days and slept alone in the living room at night. Three days later he moved to a bed on the floor in the bedroom. Now he sleeps on the bed with his foster parents and their dogs. Zach is comfortable climbing stairs and likes to spend time outside in the backyard rolling in the grass. He feels safe in his home and yard. He is, however, frightened to leave his safe space and when he went for his first walk on a leash he froze and had to be carried home. He is quiet travelling in the car and is fine with a seatbelt or crate. Zach has a very good appetite and eats 2 meals a day. Benny Bully are his favourite treats. He eats Royal Canin Adult canned food. We add a little chopped chicken and rice. He also eats Performatrin Ultra Kibble. These can be purchased from Pet Valu. Currently there are 3 small dogs in Zach’s foster home. He will sometimes join in when the other dogs bark, but for the most part is quiet. He has not been destructive when left alone. He is friendly with people and other dogs.   When Zach was released from the puppy mill he was severley matted and clipped down very short. It will take a couple of months for his coat to grow back in. Zack is not yet totally housebroken. He will do his business outside in the yard. If he can’t get outside in time he will poo on a puppy pad, but will lift his leg on furniture for a pee (we use a belly band for him so no urine gets on our furniture). He will need a training. Zach would probably do best in a very quiet environment with no children. Preferably he should go into a home with a retiree or someone who works from home and could be with him most of the time. A house with a yard and another dog would be a bonus. He is making great progress and with a little time and patience he will do very well. November 5, 2024, 10:56 am

Story
Sweet little Gigi, a Poodle X  was picked up as a stray and not claimed.  She is approximately 12 years young, 15 pounds, playful, sweet, and is looking for a family to call her own. She has been fully vetted and has recently been spayed, had a hernia repair and several teeth removed.  She is up to date on her shots, and is microchipped.   Gigi's favourite thing to do is be with her person.  She loves to cuddle and will sit by your side looking for belly rubs and ear scratches.  If you stop petting her she will tap your hand with her nose to remind you to pet her.  She loves to sleep with you and will get right under the covers and curl up beside you.   Gigi eats twice a day and will be your best pal if you offer her some treats during as well. She gets wet food because she has  so few teeth,  but she does enjoy a bit of kibble  in a separate bowl.        She goes to the door to be let out and his well housetrained.  Gigi knows the commands sit, stay and off. On walks or going for a ride in the car, Gigi will often try to chat with people or other dogs that she sees.  Saying thank you will often get her to quiet down.  She will also bark to alert if she hears someone outside but quickly settles.  Gigi loves everyone and is quick to approach people for affection. She is currently in a foster home with 2 other small dogs and gets along well with them.   The best placement for Gigi would be with people who are home most of the time and have a fenced yard where she can go out several times a day.November 23, 2024, 8:49 am

Story
Twilight (aka Twyla) is a very sweet, cuddly, and athletic 15lb poodle mix who is about 1 year old. She had a rough start in a puppy mill, but she is learning to put her past behind her and is thriving in her foster home. Once you earn her trust, this girl is a tail wagging, toy loving, zoom around the snowy backyard bundle of joy.  She has been groomed to look like the princess she is, and although originally nippy and snappy with the groomer, she has overcome her fear of handling, and is easily picked up, and has been good at the vet.   She enjoys training and is working hard on her sit and down.  When playing, or looking for chewing options, she has on occasion, mistaken blankets and slippers for chew toys. When given plush toys she has been known to "de-stuff them".  With gentle guidance and redirection, this smart pup is learning what she can and can’t chew. Supervision will be essential until she understands she can’t eat the toys. Due to her timid nature, she may bark or occasionally growl when unsure of things, but as she learns to trust and meet new people, the barking eases and she is warms quickly.  Once the trust is there, the love flows.  She travels well in the car. Twilight is crate trained and has mealtimes inside of it. She no longer needs the crate at night, and prefers to sleep on her bed, but is crated during the day if no one is home.  She will bark and sometimes cry, so her ideal house would have people home most of the day. Housetraining is coming along well, although she still might have the odd accident.  Twilight will require a family with some dog experience, time, and patience to help her trust and adapt to all the changes that are happening.  She would be fine with another adult dog in the house, as she has not shown any aggressive or reactive tendencies to other dogs, food, or toys.  Due to her barking and being a possible flight risk, she needs a securely fenced backyard and would not be suited to apartment or condo living.  This darling puppy has so much love to give to the family that is lucky enough to adopt her.  She has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on her vaccines.December 19, 2024, 10:27 am

Story
Meet CARLO Carlo is one of the most well-adjusted dogs I have fostered. He is super friendly and not shy with strangers. He likes being petted by someone he meets on a walk (kids or adults) or by house guests. At first, he was a bit hesitant to try new foods but now eagerly wants to eat everything his fellow dog companion gets. He has blended seamlessly with Islay a Cocker Spaniel and two cats that live in his foster home. He is a fast learner and has no issue with stairs, going out in the yard or being out and about in the neighbourhood. He could be a second dog for a family or an only dog he is flexible. Breed: mini poodle Weight: Approx. 7kg Gender: male Spayed/neutered: yes Age: 4 years old Reason for Intake: puppy mill father Medical (shots, etc.): all up to date Good with dogs: amazing – hasn’t met a dog he doesn’t like Good with cats: currently living with two cats and they all sleep in the same bed together Guarding issues: none Ever bitten a human: no Ever bitten a dog: no Behavioural issues: None Housetraining is a work in progress. He is improving but does best on a routine. He does use the pee pad. Not Crate trained Not destructive when left alone Doesn't bark when left alone: Carlo just barks when Islay (other dog in the house) barks (when a car pulls into the driveway) otherwise he’s good when left with the other animals. Leash skills: Carlo walks well on a leash. He is learning how to wait for the traffic to pass and walk briskly when necessary. He is learning that he can’t always go in the direction he wants and does then follow with some coaxing and encouragement.  He loves going for walks and doesn’t mind wearing his winter coat. Handling issues: Carlo is easy going and I can pick him up when needed. Medical issues: none Personality: gentle, fun loving and happyDecember 16, 2024, 10:04 pm

Story
Hi there! My name is Hare, and I’m excited to share my story with you. While I’m not exactly sure when I was born, people think I might have come into this world around 2017. My life took a significant turn in 2024 when I was rescued from an unlicensed breeding facility in Boryeong. Since then, I’ve been on a heartfelt journey to find my forever home, and I’d love to tell you a bit about myself. I can be a little shy when meeting new people, but I have a soft spot for treats! If you offer me a tasty snack, I’ll warm up quickly and enjoy being petted. Though I haven’t met many children under 13, I promise to be gentle and kind. You can even rub my belly and lift me up for some cozy cuddles! I absolutely love going for walks and have learned to walk calmly on a leash, staying right by your side. After our outdoor adventures, there’s nothing I enjoy more than curling up on the couch and relaxing together. When it comes to my dog friends, I like to say hello but prefer to keep my distance—I’m not much of a player and like to avoid any drama. To be honest, not many dogs catch my attention, and I’ve never encountered a cat before, so I’m curious but unsure of how I’d react. Sometimes, I can feel a little anxious when left alone, so I might let you know if I’m missing you. I’m working on building my confidence and learning that it’s okay to be independent. I may also speak up when I want something from you—after all, communication is key! I’m fully trained to use indoor pads and enjoy outdoor bathroom breaks. I absolutely love food, so it’s best to be cautious when feeding me. I tend to be more attached to humans than other dogs, and I calm down wonderfully when I’m with you. I truly thrive on human companionship, and I know I’ll be happiest by your side. If you’re looking for a loving, gentle friend to share your life with, I hope you’ll consider bringing me into your home. I can’t wait to show you just how sweet I can be!
