Story
Toby came into our lives in October. He is a sweet and affectionate young dog, 3 years old. He loves, licking your face and sitting in your lap. He loves playing catch. Unfortunately, we have three young children and don’t have the time and resources to give him more attention. He would benefit from some additional training. He is house trained but also enjoys being outdoors. Our kids are just too young for this to work for us at the moment. We hope he finds a home where he can be the center of attention and affection.

Story
PRANCER - Poodle Mix, 1 year, 12lbs, Neutered  Our Team Says: "Prancer came to us with a mild limp, un-natural gait in his rear left leg. We sent him to our vet to have it examined. The vet did not find anything of immediate concern when doing a physical exam. And was not able to elicit any pain response when doing a range of motion with the leg. The vet concluded that the left femur was displaced most likely to an accident like getting hit by a car. This must have happened when he was young as it did heal well - just slightlly displaced. She was confident in his quality of life and advised that he start a joint supplement - dasaquin and remain on them for his life. In addition to making sure that he is never overweight. Adopter will need to make sure to keep him on the joint supplement and keep a careful eye on his weight. We think the name Prancer fits him well as he does have an extra cute walk due to this old injury."  Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Medical statusPlease read disclaimer above. Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
ANGEL - Poodle, 1.5 years, 18lbs, Neutered  Their Foster Parent Says: "Angel is adjusting well!! He had a couple potty accidents the first couple days, but otherwise hasn't relieved himself in the apartment since. He loves following us around and cuddling next to us on the couch or on the kitchen mat. He is learning how to play with his toys, but generally is food-driven. He has learned how to auto-sit, especially when we're holding food or treats, and also is a quick learner and knows which rooms he cannot access. We walk him 3-4 times a day, and he tends to poop on the first and last walk of the day. He is still getting used to the snow, but he started to hop around and play after a couple times out. He's calm and friendly with other dogs and also very curious around the apartment, trying to explore every corner. He'll be shy around new people but will warm up to them quickly. The biggest challenge is the separation anxiety. Whenever we leave him alone, he will cry or whine. He has been scratching at the door whenever we come back. We have a playpen for him and he would cry whenever we aren't in his line of sight. He is our shadow around the apartment; when we get up from the couch he'll follow us around." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. Cuddle Bug LevelHigh -- Is always on our heel and loves to cuddle up on the couchPotty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents (accidents the first couple of days but no accidents since)Comfy with strangers?Sort of -- Shy when meeting new people but warms up quicklyGood with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy Good with Other Dogs?Yes -- Mostly uninterested; prefers humansGood with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes-- mostly uninterested Mouthy Behavior?Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Walks ahead occasionally and pulls but corrects himselfOkay in the city?Yes -- Unfazed by any loud noisesJumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Separation Anxiety?(Please be sure to leave your foster dog home alone every single day for at least 20 minutes.) Higher – He is ok alone for about 5 minutes, and then starts crying or scratching at the doorCrate training? Not at all – We have a playpen and he goes in his pen to eat/nap/sleep on his own.
