Story
Toby came into our lives in October. He is a sweet and affectionate young dog, 3 years old. He loves, licking your face and sitting in your lap. He loves playing catch. Unfortunately, we have three young children and don’t have the time and resources to give him more attention. He would benefit from some additional training. He is house trained but also enjoys being outdoors. Our kids are just too young for this to work for us at the moment. We hope he finds a home where he can be the center of attention and affection.

Story
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported Joey on his journey so far. Your donations, shares, and kind words have made such a difference in his recovery!  From being hit by a car and left broken, Joey is now a happy, cuddly puppy who is so loved in his foster home. After a tough start to life, Joey is recovering beautifully. We've learned he’s a laid back puppy who loves lounging on a cozy blanket, giving puppy kisses, and snuggling up with anyone who will give him attention. While he’s still recovering from surgery, he’s super friendly and loves meeting new people, both inside the house and out on short walks. He’s also working on “puppy nibbles” when he’s feeling playful or excited, but he’s a quick learner and already knows commands like “sit,” “come here,” and “bedtime.” We’re not out of the woods yet as Joey’s medical bills are still a challenge, with over $20k in expenses, but with YOUR help, we can get there! As a Christmas gift to Joey, please consider donating to his fund and sharing his story. Every little bit helps!  Please consider donating, sharing, or simply sending some love Joey’s way. Apply to give him his forever home! ##2239635##

Story
BUNNY -  Poodle Havanese, 2 years, 14.5lbs, Spayed  Our Team Says: "Bunny is the best girl! Please note that she does have a cherry eye. Her adopter might need to have this fixed if advised by thier vet."  Their Foster Parent Says: "Bunny, or as we've come to lovingly call her -- "Bunny Girl", is as gentle as they come. She is soft inside and outside, an equal-opportunity lover of people, children and other dogs. While we haven't seen her interact with any cats indoors, she's unphased by cats around our neighborhood, and doesn't feel particularly inclined to waste her energy on birds or squirrels. She is incredibly smart, eager-to-please and seems to enjoy working on commands and training. We're pretty sure she already knew, "come" but she has also picked up the following commands: yes, no, sit, go to your bed, go to your crate and off. I'm optimistic that with time, care + focus, she could be an incredibly well-trained dog, since she's really already pretty attuned to human routines and desires without seemingly much training. She is gentle, loose, calm + affectionate with us in the apartment and even though I don't think she has much experience walking on a leash, she is quickly getting the hang of it. The loud, aggressive NYC environment is a bit much for her and she's easily distracted by sounds, so I'd recommend repeating the same route with her a few times so she can get acclimated, comfortable and find her routine. She is housetrained, loves her dog bed and does feel comfortable in her crate. She sleeps in her crate without issue and we've been working on some mild separation anxiety with the crate when we leave the apartment. I'd recommend continuing to work on this with her since she seems comfortable in the crate; she just doesn't like being alone! For the most part, she is a quiet, calm, loving dog who just wants to hang out with you while you're working, relaxing, cooking or hanging out. She does like one long walk during the day, she loves to engage with people, play and be active and she absolutely adores the snow! When she gets back from her walks, she likes to goof around and play with her toys, which are definitely coming in handy as redirection tools, since she does seem to have some low-grade mouthiness and a love of chewing to test boundaries - like I said, she's a smarty-pants. I've fostered five dogs and Bunny is without a doubt my most low-maintenance houseguest. She's silly, sweet, scrappy and spunky and would make an amazing companion in a home that honors her chilled-out attitude and her love of a long, luxurious walk."  Level of dog ownership experience needed:. BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  How is the dog's cuddle bug levelLow -- Independent, mostlykeeps to himself (may bebecause he's still brand newor shy, this could change)Is the dog potty trained? (Indoors, if the dog cannot go outdoors)Yes -- Few or no accidents insideComfy with strangers?Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, notmouthySocial with Other Dogs?Yes -- Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know andenjoys socializing with other caninesRespectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterestedMouthy Behavior?Medium – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc. but does like to chew on things it’snot supposed to like shoes, furniture, etc.Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’tbeen on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correctionOkay in the city?Adjusting well  -- Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescueJumping on People to Say Hi?High – Very excited to greet everyone and has no idea how to do so politely. Jumps up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase or wasn’t trained as a young adult.Separation Anxiety? (Please be sure to leave your foster dog home alone every single day for at least 20 minutes.)Higher – Cries when left home alone Crate training?Yep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
PRANCER - Poodle Mix, 1 year, 12lbs, Neutered  Our Team Says: "Prancer came to us with a mild limp, un-natural gait in his rear left leg. We sent him to our vet to have it examined. The vet did not find anything of immediate concern when doing a physical exam. And was not able to elicit any pain response when doing a range of motion with the leg. The vet concluded that the left femur was displaced most likely to an accident like getting hit by a car. This must have happened when he was young as it did heal well - just slightlly displaced. She was confident in his quality of life and advised that he start a joint supplement - dasaquin and remain on them for his life. In addition to making sure that he is never overweight. Adopter will need to make sure to keep him on the joint supplement and keep a careful eye on his weight. We think the name Prancer fits him well as he does have an extra cute walk due to this old injury."  Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Medical statusPlease read disclaimer above. Healthy as far as we know. Thomas.
