Story
PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT INDY   Indy came to us as a client of our friends at Serenity and does amazing with them, unfortunately without a lot of guidance and training daily Indy has quite a bit of hiccups in the home, and was sent back to his breeder then another trainer who continued to work with him! Indy's hiccups included ... Resource guarding toys and food with children and adults , He was barrier guarding in the kennel and will snarl and bark.  He is currently being fostered with Serenity Pet Spaw where he does well! He is working on training and making the crate a happy time and he has passed all the tests with flying colors!!! He does amazing grooming and only has some issues with nail filing but, they see no biting just a few lip lifts which is being worked on as well. We would consider Indy a special case due to his background and we would only adopt local. We would ask anyone adopting to continue doggy daycare, grooming and boarding with Serenity Pet Spaw but ,we understand that may not be possible and if changing to a different facility is necessary Serenity is happy to talk to and work with whatever facility is choosen to make sure Indy has the best transition! We would ask any potential adopters be willing to continue to crate train(Serenity will go over all the training they are doing as well!) and sign up with a trainer prior to adoption.  Indy LOVES other dogs and will get along with certain cats, we would love a foster to adopt for him and help acclimate him to your home!  Indys perfect home would be an active very dog knowledgeable home with older children (13 up)  who would be involved in the training process too.  If you are Indy's perfect home please fill out an application and we will schedule a meet and greet!!  ##1997055##

Story
ADOPT CARL! 6 y.o., 20 pound, housetrained neutered Miniature Poodle/Pomeranian Mix Carl is a wonderful little fellow who makes a great companion once you earn his trust. Carl often lies with his foster grandpa while he watches TV. With people he is comfortable with, Carl shows he is a friendly, affectionate, playful dog who (naturally) loves his treats, those made specifically for dogs or broccoli, carrots or cauliflower. Our vet estimates that Carl is approximately 6 years old. We know virtually nothing about Carl’s past. He was picked up as a stray & taken to the local animal control as a scared boy who did not want to be touched. It took days for him to decompress in a foster home. Carl likes to chase thrown balls. He doesn’t often return them. He chases, picks them up, turns & waits for you to throw another. He also likes to chew on sticks. Carl’s anxiety is with unknown humans, not dogs. Carl gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home & has shown interest in other dogs he has met. Carl has quickly become friends with a few people who met him at his foster home & strictly followed our meeting protocol. Once he gets to know & trust you, you remain his friend, even after you leave him at the vet for a procedure. Carl does love his foster grandpa. While Carl is quite fond of sitting or lying on his foster grandpa on the couch, he needs & loves to run and play. A small dog secure fenced yard is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for Carl. Carl likes to spend significant time outside every day. Carl likes car rides & to explore on a leash walk. Carl will often bark at strangers, but calms down when not forced to interact. When he senses no danger, he will willingly walk with strangers with or without dogs. In the company of people he does not know, Carl naturally seeks reassurance from his foster grandpa. Do not expect Carl to go out in the rain. Carl needs a patient adopter without children with whom he can thrive. While prospective adopters’ children & Carl may form a mutual admiration society, it’s too much to expect their friends to understand just how different Carl’s fear makes his behavior. Carl’s trust in his foster grandpa has since achieved a level where his foster grandpa now shaves & cuts Carl’s coarse locks. For nail trims, his foster grandpa puts a cloth muzzle on Carl & holds him while the vet tech snips. We encourage you to see & learn more about Carl on his public Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563018184933, or search FB on Carl Heather’s Foster Dogs. Carl is housetrained, neutered & microchipped as well as up to date on his vaccinations & monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Half of Carl’s $400 adoption fee has been sponsored. If you are interested in meeting Carl, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters for Carl only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Carl's adopter must live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.***

Story
Birdie - Available for adoption.   I am a feisty 10 year old Maltipoo/Dachshund mix (best guess) Birdie gets along quite well with other dogs or can be the only dog getting ALL your attention. She does not prefer to share bones but will share toys. She enjoys a good walk so if you are willing to take strolls, a fence is not required. Birdie walks well on a leash and looks cute doing it. Birdie is fully house and crate trained. At night, she likes to sleep with her people. She likes snuggles, car rides and looking out windows. Birdie is hard of hearing. She knows a few hand signals. Birdie is still continuing to heal from an open wound under her eye that was infected. The tooth was pulled and the infection is gone, now she just needs extra time to heal. Daily washing is needed. My foster mom calls me the perfect "companion" dog. Birdie has been fully vetted for one year but may need follow up visits to help maintain her eye.   Birdie's adoption fee is $200. She is fully vetted for 1 year, spayed, microchipped, & on monthly preventatives. Applications for adoption are at www.trackingintheshadows.com.  Please live within 1 hour of South Bend or Elkhart, IN.  Once approved, we will set up a day/time for you to meet Birdie.  Please be ready to take her home within 1-3 days. *We do not accept electric/underground fences. All dogs & cats in the home must be spayed/neutered & up to date on core vaccines & preventatives in order for your application to be approved.* ##2281337##
