Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Located in Decatur, IL Nick is a former puppy mill dog and he is working very hard at trusting people. When Nick came to us, you couldn't touch him and he would run away as fast as he could or hid underneath another dog. He wouldn't make eye contact, or take a treat from your hand. Nick has come very far in his foster home over the last 2 months. He still is uncertain of people but he looks foster mom in the eye, takes a treat from her hand, waits to be picked up to be put in bed each night, and knows will jump at the back of her legs when she comes home. Nick still runs if you try to approach him, but he does't go far and he eventually waits to be picked up. Nick is a completely different dog in bed. He is sweet, asks for affection, thumps his tail excitedly and loves ear scratches! Sleeping with his person will help when he goes to a new home. Nick loves other dogs and loves to play with them. He enjoys running around the yard with the other dogs and always has a smile on his face when with his buddies! The foster's pack of dogs have helped him tremendously to relax, learn a routine, and trust. He will need a young playful companion in his new home. Because of Nick's lack of trust for people he is a flight risk. He will need a secure physical fenced yard. Nick also gets nervous around young children and he is not recommended for a home with children under 10. Nick's adoption is 375. H is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps. PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!

Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Location: Decatur, IL Requirements: Secure PHYSICAL fenced yard Canine companion or mill dog experience Kurt is a shy boy that was once a breeder dog but saved from that life! He has early onset cataracts in one of his eyes and is sight impaired. Being a mill dog and not having sight makes the road for him a little more difficult, but he is learning to adjust. Kurt LOVES to snuggle and will just breathe a deep sigh of relief and melt in your arms. He is still learning how to be a dog but has initiated play with the foster's dog. This is a great sign and he would probably do best with having another confident dog in the home. If you do not have a dog then mill dog experience is required, as these dogs are a different challenge than a typical scared dog. Kurt mostly hangs out in quiet and less trafficked places, but is beginning to explore more. He probably would not be suitable in a home with young children. Kurt's adoption is $375. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps! PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Located in Decatur, IL REQUIREMENTS: Canine Companion Secure physical fenced yard. Autumn is a retired breeder dog and she has lived her life prior to rescue in a small area with no kind touch. She is untrusting of people but LOVES other dogs. We don't know all that she endured coming to us, but we can be pretty sure it wasn't good. She is missing most of her left ear, she used to tremble all the time, her tail was always tucked, she didn't play, would cry if she couldn't be with her emotional support buddy (another dog) and you couldn't touch her or catch her if she wasn't dragging a leash. Her dependence on another dog was concerning. We understand that mill dogs do better with another dog and learn a lot from them, but it was like torture for her to not be with one. We let this go on for about 4-6 weeks in hopes she would get better, but it didn't and if anything it just got worse. So, we changed tactics and started forcing some time apart. Just small things like sleeping in her own crate at night and when foster mom was at work, making them potty at different times and even eating away from each other. We also started her on anxiety meds. She has been on the meds for about a month and it is too soon to know if they are making a difference or just the changes we have made. Autumn can now co-exist without her emotional support dog. She will choose to always be with another dog, but now she can lay with others and even play with others. The progress with trusting people has been slow. She will stop and let you pick her up, but she trembles. She is very food driven and has no fear when it comes to begging for food and taking it from foster mom's hand. Autumn is going to need someone who is patient and can work with her more. Foster has multiple dogs and works full time, so she can't always spend multiple training and trust activities with her. However, if you are just looking for a dog for your dog, Autumn will fill that role with no problem. However, she needs to trust people enough to be able to groom her, take her to vet appointments and anything else requiring human intervention. Autumn is a HUGE flight risk and will require a secure physical fenced yard. No, a harness will not be enough nor an electric fence. Autumn's adoption is 375. She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, received a dental, and on monthly heartworm prevention.
