Story
Tommy is easy to fall in love with and is a very sweet and happy boy. Despite having a rough go at life, Tommy is always wagging his tail and wanting to be loved. With that, Tommy does like his boundaries to be respected at times, but he is a very vocal boy - so he will let you know when he needs space. Tommy does suffer from a heart condition and bad allergies which are managed through twice a day medication and a monthly shot. In addition to that, he has almost no teeth! The ones he does have will be taken out as soon as he is cleared for surgery...but because of this, Tommy is on an all fresh/wet food diet. Tommy is house trained and does well being left alone for several hours. He loves to go outside, sniff and is slowing learning how to play with toys. He is obsessed with food and can sometimes be possessive of his meals (only with other animals it seems). Tommy has big emotions which means he gets very excited and can be stubborn. He is a bit of a barker so he would make the perfect guard dog, but he has been learning to manage this with training at his foster. His ideal home would be someone who is home more often than not and who can care and provide for his health conditions. He also is pet friendly and would do better in a house with another companion. Tommy is a very special and loving boy who is looking for a home that will cherish him and give him endless pets because he is deserving of the best!

Story
Cleo is a laid-back, small senior gal who adores people and greets visitors with extra warmth. She`s easygoing, unfazed by anything, and prefers ear rubs and lounging on the couch, rather than learning new tricks. Though she`s comfortable around other dogs, she often ignores them during walks, finding more interest in observing birds, squirrels, and bunnies. On a recent playdate with two dogs, she was more fascinated by sniffing and watching them play rather than joining in. Cleo also gets along wonderfully with cats. She also enjoy being with older children. Her perfect day involves soaking up the sun outdoors. She walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys people-watching. A car ride is a delightful bonus for her, where she loves sitting on her bed in the front seat, occasionally peeking out the window before resting and watching her foster drive. At home, there`s no need for a crate since she has impeccable manners and respects the home when left alone. Since being at her foster home, she’s never chewed on anything, not even a sock, and has show no interest in chew toys. House trained from the start, Cleo quickly adapted to her foster’s home routine. She is food motivated and loves her wet meals. Being a quiet and patient gal, her foster has only heard her bark a few times. She’s flexible and loves to naps on her bed, under the table or on the couch. Cleo is perfectly content when left alone, and her little tail wags with joy when you return, guaranteed to brighten your day.Cleo is a spirited soul, eager to embrace life to the fullest despite her mammary cancer. Her greatest wish is to share her joy with someone special. A single-level home would be perfect for her. If you`re ready to welcome a loyal and loving companion who will light up your days, Cleo is excitedly waiting for you. Could you be the one to make her dreams come true?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
If only I had a full head of hair like little Beauregard…and a stick to carry in my mouth! Beau is a fun-loving companion who loves being petted and will actually use his nose to lift your hand if you dare to stop petting him. A fast learner, Beau knows some commands like sit, wait and let’s go and he has great potential to learn more commands and even some tricks. He is surprisingly strong and does tend to jump when he gets excited.Beauregard is housebroken and will whine a bit by the door when it is time to head outdoors for some relief. And outdoors is where the sticks are! He is doing well on walks and will bark a bit to show his enthusiasm to meet other canines or humans who happen to pass by. He is comfortable in his crate and will be happy to tour the neighborhood in the back seat of your car.If you are looking for an energetic social butterfly who loves to snuggle and be on the receiving end of belly rubs, please check out Beauregard.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Perry is an X- Puppy Mill Dog Needing a Patient Home That Will Help Him Blossom. Perry is an active young fella that is getting to know what life is like outside a puppymill. He has spent the first year of his life in a mill. He was released by the breeder who no longer wanted him. Perry has been with us about 4 months and during the time he has done very well adjusting to living in a home, not a cage. Puppy Mill dogs are not socialized and are afraid of many noises and sounds another dog has generally been exposed to. Each day is a new learning experience. Perry has learned his lessons well enough to begin a new life with a new family. Mill dogs MUST have fenced in yards for their potty place. This is not optional, This is for safety. They must have dog savvy families that have time and patience to earn a dog's trust. They also should be in adult homes that are very careful with doors, gates, etc,. to prevent door dashing. No one wants a lost dog, but we don't want a mill dog to take off. Perry will benefit from another respectful similar size and age dog in the family. Mill dogs understand dogs far better than people. Perry has more confidence with his mill buddy Gerry. Another dog in the family will help bring Perry out. Of course, you are welcome to adopt his mill buddy Gerry as well if you don't have a buddy for Perry yet. In time, Perry will benefit from training and might even be a candidate for agility training. Training is more than a skill set, it helps create a better bond and communication skill between human and dog which is even more important with a mill dog. What's crucial is that Perry needs a patient and caring owner who is willing to let her set him own pace. In just a couple of months in his new home, we believe Perry will begin to feel safe and fully relax into the household routine. Perry is expected to thrive in a home with either a gentle, respectful dog as well as having a family who is willing to spend a significant amount of time with him This companionship will help him feel more secure as he continues to adjust to her new environment. He MUST also have a fenced-in and gated yard as her potty place for his safety, given his shyer disposition. It's worth noting that once he does feel safe, he'll delight you with his charming poodle personality. Perry is crate trained and potty trained. That being said there is always a learning curve in a new home so please understand you will have some mishaps at first but most of the work is already done. Perry is 1 year old and fully vetted, He has been neutered, received age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of his adopter His adoption donation is $800.00. He is on the hunt for his own completely committed family, Dogs can live to be 20 years old so he wants to be sure his family is all in for better or for worse! We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits, If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate to adopt Perry please fill out an application for him adoption on our website at: https://www.rescuetailsanimalwelfare.org/info/adoption We are all volunteers with full-time jobs. Story
Merry is A Sweet Young Pup Learning Life Outside The Puppy Mill. Merry was born in a puppy mill with a bleak future ahead as a puppy mom. One one had, she won the lotto when the breeder no longer had use for her however on the other hand, it also could have ended badly for her .We were able to secure her safe passage out and she joined our rescue and now has a promising future ahead. Merry is a Poodle Bichon gal with a happy disposition. Coming from a mill she does not have the exposure to every day things and skill set another puppy does. She is a bit timid and needs to learn about sounds like sirens,, traffic, riding in a car, etc.. She needs a home to take the time and patience to slowly introduce her to everyday life, She needs to learn bathroom skills as well. All puppies love to chew so puppy proofing your home is something to plan on. Merry would benefit in a home with another gentle dog to show her the ropes and help her burn off some of her puppy play energy. She MUST have a secure fenced in yard for her potty place to keep her safe from being a flight hazard, We highly recommend puppy training classes to help create stronger bonds and establish a clear channel of communication with each other, Training also helps you bounce off daily situations with a trainer in real time for support, Merry is fully vetted, She has been spayed, received age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of her adopter, Her adoption donation is $1200.00. She is on the hunt for her own completely committed family, Little Dogs can live to be 20+ years old so she wants to be sure her family is all in for better or for worse! IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 12 MONTHS): YOU MUST HAVE A FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE OR SOMEONE HOME ALL DAY. PUPPIES NEED TO BE LET OUT TO POTTY EVERY COUPLE OF HOURS APART, THEY NEED SOCIALIZATION AND BONDING AND NEED TRAINING (HOUSETRAINING AND BEHAVIORAL TRAINING). IF YOU WORK LONG HOURS, HAVE A BUSY SOCIAL SCHEDULE OR NOT FINANCIALLY SECURE THEN A PUPPY IS NOT FOR YOU. We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits, If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate to adopt Merry please fill out an application for her adoption on our website at: https://www.rescuetailsanimalwelfare.org/info/aoption We are all volunteers with full time jobs. Story
Jenna Is A Lovely 3 Year Old X Puppy Mill Mom. Jenna is now retired. She spent 2 -1/2 years of her life as a puppymill mom which means she did not have the same experiences that others dogs her age have had. In turn, she is more timid and shy. She has come along nicely in her foster home. She has learned how to relax and just be a dog with the aid of the family and their chill dog to lead the way. Jenna now jumps on the bed for attention and happily wags her little tail. That being said, she can be reactive to day to day noises like the sound of a potato chip bag being opened which can cause her to panic. Consequently, she will do best in a quiet dog savvy home home with a chill companion dog that is sensitive to her past, Jenna came to us in late August and now months later, she has made remarkable progress, However, it's essential to understand that when Jenna transitions to her adoptive home, she may initially feel unsafe due to her shy nature. As Jenna has been gradually coming out of her shell she's was working on her potty skills. Her ideal home would be with someone who can provide frequent bathroom breaks every couple of hours especially in a new environment. What's crucial is that Jenna needs a patient and caring owner who is willing to let her set her own pace. In just a couple of months in her new home, we believe Jenna will begin to feel safe and fully relax into the household routine. Jenna is expected to thrive in a home with a gentle, respectful dog and someone who is willing to spend a significant amount of time with her. Jenna MUST also have a fenced-in and gated yard as her potty place for her safety, given her shyer disposition. It's worth noting that once Jenna does feel safe, she'll delight you with her charming poodle personality. She adores being pet, particularly on her head, and she'll happily sit next to you for hours, a testament to the affectionate and loving companion she's destined to become. Jenna is 3 years old and fully vetted, She has been spayed, received age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of her adopter Her adoption donation is $600.00. She is on the hunt for her own completely committed family, Dogs can live to be 20 years old so she wants to be sure her family is all in for better or for worse!
