I AM IN FOSTER CARE! PLEASE FILL OUT AN OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION. ONCE APPROVED,  GIVE US A CALL AND WE CAN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR YOU TO MEET ME! Born: August 28, 2020 I am 10lbs and I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $550 I am from a puppy mill situation. It is going to take time and patience for me to acclimate to my new home.  Meet Ghost! Ghost is a 10-pound poodle with a heartwarming story. He came to AHS after being rescued from a puppy mill that had been shut down. This little guy does great with other dogs and is making wonderful progress with house training. He's highly food-motivated, which helps with training, and he's starting to enjoy playtime with other dogs and show interest in toys. Ghost would thrive in a home with older children, as he can be startled by fast movements and may nip out of fear. With patience and love, Ghost is sure to continue blossoming into an amazing companion! All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. An application is required to view our adoptable pets. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. Story
Meet Honey! Age: young adult Weight: 19 pounds History: former mill dog. I'm a very sensitive soul, and it's taken me a bit more time to come around to living in a home and what it's like to be around humans. Housetrained: working on it Crate trained: no, and after that being my only means of living, I'm very scared of them. Good with: Dogs (I actually do much better with another dog who can help me learn how to be a part of a family), cats. No kids, please, they are a bit too much for me. Special needs: hypothyroidism (meds for this) and gastrointestinal issues, specifically when switching food, so will have a specific diet. I'm ready to start looking for my forever home after month in my foster home and making small strides in the right direction. I'll need someone who is very patient and very understanding and willing to help me learn that family life is the best life. I'm working on my pottying outside, but I will need a completely fenced-in yard and a long leash while I'm learning that you are okay while doing so. It's a scary big world for me right now, and the great outdoors puts me in flight mode, so the fence is very important for my safety. I have it in me to be loved, but it will take time, and it will be so rewarding. We can celebrate my progress together! If you have some understanding of mill dog survivors, you might be my person. If you don't have an understanding of mill dog survivors, but have the patience to put the work in, I might be your dog! If you think you can get past my good looks and my incredibly soft fur, get ahold of my people so we can start our journey together! *Honey is being fostered in Trempealeau, WI. Story
Meet Barney and Bambi: A Bonded Pair Searching for Their New Beginning Barney and Bambi are two deeply loved dogs who have spent their lives bringing joy and comfort to their owner. Sadly, their owner is now seriously ill and unable to care for them, and Safe Haven has been entrusted with the important mission of finding these sweethearts a foster or forever home where they can live out their days together. Barney is a gentle, wise senior at 17 years young. With his laid-back and affectionate personality, he’s happiest when snuggled up for a nap or quietly enjoying your company. He’s a daycare favorite, making friends easily with both humans and other dogs. Bambi, the younger of the two at 10 ½, is full of life and love despite living with congestive heart failure. He’s doing great on his medication, showing no signs of discomfort. Bambi’s cheerful, playful nature and affectionate demeanor light up every room he enters. Like Barney, he’s a social butterfly, delighting in making new friends at daycare. Together, Barney and Bambi are the perfect pair—inseparable, loyal, and endlessly charming. Whether they’re sharing a cozy bed, looking for their next treat, or mingling with their daycare buddies, their bond and resilience shine through. Though they’re understandably a bit confused by the recent changes in their lives, they’ve shown incredible adaptability and continue to spread love wherever they go. Barney and Bambi are looking for a home where they can stay together, offering their new family unconditional love and endless cuddles. Could you be the one to give this amazing duo the second chance they deserve? To foster or adopt Barney and Bambi, please reach out to Safe Haven today! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.
