Bernard is a distinguished gentleman and with this, has very refined tastes! This sweet boy can be particular about his friends but wants to be all yours once you`ve won him over. He would do best in a quiet home, single-person home where he can be the perfect companion to his person, as he is loyal as can be! Bernard`s love is one fit for a queen and to meet this noble suitor, stop any during adoption hours!

Story
Carl is a wonderful little fellow who once in his comfort zone behaves like a normal, friendly, affectionate, playful dog. Carl does have fear of strangers which is easily overcome following a protocol we worked up with a certified dog behaviorist. He is not aggressive but warns off those whom he does not know. Carl makes a great companion once you earn his trust. Carl has quickly become friends with a few people who met him at his foster home & strictly followed our meeting protocol. Once he gets to know & trust you, you remain his friend, even after you leave him at the vet for a procedure. Carl does love his foster grandpa. While Carl is quite fond of sitting or lying on his foster grandpa on the couch, he needs & loves to run and play. A small dog secure fenced yard is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for Carl. Carl likes to spend significant time outside every day. Carl loves car rides & to explore on his daily leash walk. We know virtually nothing about Carl’s past. He was picked up as a stray & taken to the local animal control as a scared boy who did not want to be touched. Our vet estimates that he is approximately 5 years old. It took days for him to decompress in a foster home. Carl is afraid of strangers. He does not want them near him, moves away & tries to hide from them. He will get aggressive only if he is not allowed to move away from strangers who want to touch him. Carl’s fear is of humans, not dogs. Carl gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home & has shown interest in other dogs he has met. We want Carl to become as comfortable with an adopter as he learned to be with his foster & for everyone to be safe. Carl should NEVER be let off leash outside of his small dog secure fenced yard. Carl will bark at strangers, but calms down if walked with strangers with or without dogs. While walking with his foster grandpa, his leash can safely be handed off to someone to whom he has just been introduced. Carl needs a patient adopter without children with whom he can thrive. While prospective adopters’ children & Carl may form a mutual admiration society, it’s too much to expect their friends to understand just how different Carl’s fear makes his behavior. Carl’s trust in his foster grandpa has since achieved a level where his foster grandpa now shaves & cuts Carl’s coarse locks. Earlier it was necessary for Carl to be groomed was at a vet’s office where he could be sedated. We encourage you to see & learn more about Carl on his public Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563018184933, or search FB on Carl Heather’s Foster Dogs. Carl is housetrained, neutered & microchipped as well as up to date on his vaccinations & monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Carl’s $400 adoption fee has been sponsored. If you are interested in meeting Carl, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters for Carl only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Carl's adopter must live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.***

Story
**** Northern Illinois/ Chicagoland suburb adoptions only **** Applications must be submitted on newstartdogrescue.org to be considered for adoption. FULLY FENCED YARD REQUIRED***** Kai is just over a year and a half old and he is a poodle mix. He currently weighs about 20 pounds. We are requiring an above ground fully fenced in yard for Kai. Kai is a super high energy dog that really loves to play. He is super smart and always ready to learn. He likes both toys and treats as learning tools. He came into the rescue very matted and in dire need of a grooming. Underneath all that was this adorable, funny boy! Kai can be fearful of new people but with slow intros when meeting anyone he hasn’t met before he warms up quickly. His foster family has been working on intros to new people. He would do best in a home that if there are children they are older and respectful (NO CHILDREN UNDER 13), as well as not a lot of new visitors. Kai is fully crate trained, house trained, and is very good with sit, come. He will need extra work on leave it, going down stairs and leash manners. He is very good with other dogs and would do best with another high energy dog! Slow introductions are a must with Kai!! He is up-to-date on all his vetting and vaccinations. He is neutered and already microchipped. Kai is being fostered in a private home. Appointments to meet him will be set up for approved adopters only. Adoption fee is $300. Please visit our website at http://newstartdogrescue.org and fill out an application if you are interested.

Story
Meet Max!  He is a young and energetic Pomeranian-Poodle mix around 2 yrs old.  He loves his dog and humans friends, especially if they want to play.  He would do well in a home that has the same high energy as him, although he will sit and snuggle on the couch after a long day.  He has never met a cat so we aren't sure how he would do with them.  He doesn't really like fast, jerky movements, so kids are not a great idea for this guy.  He does great in the car, is crate trained and potty trained.  He is okay with walks but will need some more work on the leash.  He would do best with a fenced in yard as he is known to run around and will wander off.  Bigger dogs do make him a little nervous at first and he doesn't realize boundaries because he just wants to play.  He seems to be nervous of men and will need an experienced owner to help with some training and confidence. Overall he is a sweet guy looking for a fun and loving family.  He is fixed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. His adoption fee is $500 To adopt Max, email us at kakf3133@gmail.comNovember 30, 2024, 10:10 pm

Story
Meet Barney and Bambi: A Bonded Pair Searching for Their New Beginning Barney and Bambi are two deeply loved dogs who have spent their lives bringing joy and comfort to their owner. Sadly, their owner is now seriously ill and unable to care for them, and Safe Haven has been entrusted with the important mission of finding these sweethearts a foster or forever home where they can live out their days together. Barney is a gentle, wise senior at 17 years young. With his laid-back and affectionate personality, he’s happiest when snuggled up for a nap or quietly enjoying your company. He’s a daycare favorite, making friends easily with both humans and other dogs. Bambi, the younger of the two at 10 ½, is full of life and love despite living with congestive heart failure. He’s doing great on his medication, showing no signs of discomfort. Bambi’s cheerful, playful nature and affectionate demeanor light up every room he enters. Like Barney, he’s a social butterfly, delighting in making new friends at daycare. Together, Barney and Bambi are the perfect pair—inseparable, loyal, and endlessly charming. Whether they’re sharing a cozy bed, looking for their next treat, or mingling with their daycare buddies, their bond and resilience shine through. Though they’re understandably a bit confused by the recent changes in their lives, they’ve shown incredible adaptability and continue to spread love wherever they go. Barney and Bambi are looking for a home where they can stay together, offering their new family unconditional love and endless cuddles. Could you be the one to give this amazing duo the second chance they deserve? To foster or adopt Barney and Bambi, please reach out to Safe Haven today! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.
