Story
Meet Reggie, a Miniature Poodle who was dumped on the streets to fend for himself. He was so scared to approach people that we had to trap him. His coat was so mangled and covered with cling ons that we had to shave him down completely and there was a beautiful dog under there! (before pics available on request) He's a sweet little boy but gets very nervous when strangers come in the house. He is best to be with an older couple and no small children in the house. He's very snuggly and lovable, just doesn't like a lot of commotion. Our vet estimated him to be around 4 -5 years. We had his teeth cleaned and polished as he had the beginning of tartar build up, more than likely due to a poor diet. He is neutered, heart worm negative, vaccinated, crate trained and microchipped. Reggie is more than ready for his forever home, could that be you? Reggie is ready for immediate transport PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE: $600

Story
Hi my name is Georgie.  I am a fabulous little miniature poodle who is 7 years old and I weigh 17 lbs.  I am an awesome little guy who is so very sad.  Today is the Sunday after Valentine's Day.  I spent Valentine's Day with my beloved mom and now I am in a strange home with 'other' dogs.  I miss my mom so much.  Her daughter told me that I was going to a loving foster home because my mom could no longer take proper care of me.  She was right but that did not help.  My foster mom is very nice and I know that I am safe and loved but....  It would be best for me to go ahead and find my forever home so that I do not have settle in twice.  I am a very sweet guy who loves adult people.  I would love to find a couple in their 50s or early 60s with no other dogs who would make me the center of their universe.  I am not being picky (well yes I am).  I don't ever want to go through the loss of my human again.  I am used to living with a woman but I also REALLY love men.  I know lots of tricks and would love to show you how smart I am.  I can shake hands,  high five, lie down, roll over and stand up and dance.  I am a little ham at heart.  I am paper trained but will do my business when you take me outside.  I do prefer that you go with me and would love a fence in yard of some sort.  I have no real health issues but I am allergic to chicken and a bit picky about what I eat.  I also have itchy skin but think that is because my mom bathed me too much.  I prefer going to the groomer and do need to go frequently.  I do need a new family that can afford to take care of me.  After all I think I am a prince.  I know how to walk on a leash but my favorite thing is to ride in my carriage.  (It is actually a stroller but I prefer carriage.)  I hope you have cried and then laughed at what I have had to say and that you are now ready to apply to be my true forever family.  I have been neutered and am current on all my shots, heartworm negative and microchipped.  To be considered for my forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (I am currently in Tennessee but can be transported to my forever family upon adoption.)February 23, 2025, 9:42 pm

Story
This handsome Miniature Poodle boy is called Wrigley and he is a young 3 year old, 14 pound sweetheart looking for a home.  His life started off with a breeder and he was purchased as a Christmas gift for young children who soon grew tired of the novelty puppy.  They were supposed to take care of him and the parents were not willing to pick up the slack for his care.  The solution was to put this poor 14 pound boy outside on a tie out in the cold elements of Winter.  A neighbor grew so concerned about him and asked if they would give him up to a rescue.  They fortunately agreed and soon this handsome Poodle was in the right hands that could change his life.  He needed to be neutered and it has been done with all other vetting.  Wrigley is a happy boy despite the lack of love and past care.  He seems to have been unfazed that he spent time alone outside and not receiving the real love and snuggles that he so freely gives now to his foster mom.  He is back to working on being housebroken due to the tie-out time he spent outside but is crate trained and we have groomed him just before neutering him.  He has a whole new life ahead of him and we have polished him up to look as dapper as he could before leaving for a new forever home. If you have been looking for a young Poodle to rescue and love then this is a rare opportunity to get a fully vetted boy with no hidden issues or fears.  He is fine with other dogs, cats and gets along great with everyone he meets. Wrigley was wonderful to the children in the first home even though they did not appreciate him. This treasure is just waiting for a miracle family to love him.  Could that be you?  He is in Tennessee and we transport northward almost every weekend.  Please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested.   PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.February 23, 2025, 9:42 pm

Story
** Current Location: in a private facility in South Korea ** • Rescue Story : A dog with its eyes completely missing, a dog whose body was entirely blackened, a dog with rotting genitals... We struggle to find the words to describe the horrors we witnessed. Like hamsters on a wheel, the dogs cried out for help. There were every kind of dog here, some that were once fashionable and others currently in demand. The once trendy dogs were dying in the corner, while those now popular were crying out for salvation with every part of their body. This place had been illegally breeding and abusing animals for 25 years. From this hell, the rescue team saved Mina. • Personality: Loves people, lap dog, loves to lounge in comfy spots She enjoys being close to people and will often walk over to sit on their laps for cuddles and relaxation. • Affinity with -Cats: Not tested -Dogs: Mina gets along well with other dogs but has an independent personality, so she may become irritated with overly persistent or clingy dogs. Mina enjoys being pampered by people and tends to rely more on humans than on dog companions, so she would be happier in a home without other dogs. -Adults/Kids: Mina loves everyone! • Shedding: 1-2 (1-10 scale) • Walking Manners: She has not yet had a proper walk. Once her adoption is confirmed, the rescue team will provide her with as much walking training as possible, but the adopter will need to continue practicing walking with her. • Housetrained: She is currently using indoor pads with an 80% accuracy rate. Once her adoption is confirmed, the team will continue pad training, though the adopter will need to continue training with her as well. • Separation Anxiety: None at the current facility • Barker or Quiet: No barking • Food Allergies: None • Likes & Dislikes: Likes treats, people, petting, and napping in a comfortable place! / Not a fan of other dogs being overly clingy. • Health: Mina has undergone surgery on both patellas. She has sensitive skin that tends to become dry and flaky, so she needs extra care for moisturizing. Mina has very few teeth, so she struggles to eat hard food or treats. She has an ulcer in her left eye and is currently undergoing medication (will relay treatment info to the adopting family!). Regular monitoring and treatment will be required in the future. Also, given that the dog was rescued from a puppy mill, we believed she was likely pregnant in the past. [Ophthalmologist Notes] - Left Eye: Dry eye with low tear production, swelling, and a cloudy cornea due to past injury (currently no active ulcer, but there is swelling and vascular changes). - Right Eye: Similar to the left, with an ulcer from a past injury, and pain. Tear production is higher but abnormal, likely due to the pain. - Both eyes have swollen eyelids. Mina is being treated with antibiotics and steroids, with weekly rechecks. If there’s no improvement, immunosuppressive drops may be needed. - May need constant monitoring for: Tear production (wet or dry around eyes), Redness or irritation, Frequent blinking.

Please contact Caitlin Finn (caitlin.finn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love! TOBY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Toby       Best Guess for Breed: Poodle mix Best Guess for Age:   3 years as of February 2025      Gender: Male Approximate Weight:  53 lbs Gets Along With: He gets along with other dogs. We haven't seen him with kids or cats. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment.  Special Adoption Considerations: Toby is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Toby is Looking For: His forever family! This sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of his own and he's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed sound good to him too. And Toby was heavily matted - mats are painful!! - when he arrived, and had to be shaved down completely. That coat is high maintenance, requiring daily brushing and regular professional grooming. He wants humans who understand that mats hurt and take good care of his coat.  In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and all the love and loyalty in him. What do you say? Is this sweetie the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Sweet Grammy was found by a Good Samaritan in the middle of a busy street and was delighted to join Miri's Haven while awaiting her forever home. She is sweet and easy to take care of. She loves people and is a good snuggler. She is housetrained and gets along with the dogs and cats in her foster home. She loves a good nap on a soft bed and a cozy sweater when it's chilly out. She loves going for walks with plenty of interesting smells and rides well in the car. While she may not have 100% of her vision, she gets around easily and can even go up and down a few stairs. Grammy would love to join your family! Fostered in Falls Church, VA

Story
Meet Vida the Diva! She is a snazzy miniature poodle who was found abandoned on the side of the road, locked in a crate with two other dogs. Her zest for life gives no hint of her struggles or the fear she must have faced. From the moment she arrived at her foster family's home, Vida knew she belonged. She immediately claimed their hearts ~ and the comfiest spots in the house! But her journey was just beginning. We knew Vida needed extensive medical care, and after a thorough vet exam we learned she would require two major surgeries. On February 10th, she bravely underwent her first ~ a spay and a mastectomy on her right side. The best news? The masses were confirmed cancer-free! Through it all, Vida has remained the loving, spunky girl we fell in love with ~ greeting everyone with excitement, stealing the softest spots in the house, and slowly regaining her playful spirit. Now, with her stitches removed and her confidence returning, Vida is back to running in the yard, barking at everyone (because, of course, divas must be heard), and rocking her fabulous wardrobe. Her second surgery, including a mastectomy on the left side and a much-needed dental, is scheduled for mid to late March. For now, she’s living her best life… soaking up snuggles, enjoying car rides, and generally overseeing her kingdom from her rightful place as queen of the house. Whoever is lucky enough to welcome this little star into their home will be getting a dog full of love, resilience, and a whole lot of diva energy! Story
Meet Julie! She is a sweet, beautiful girl who has had a rough go of it and is looking for her soft landing spot. Julie was purchased in New York City, a tiny, delicate poodle bought as a breeding dog to make her owners money. But when she managed to escape and landed in a shelter, her owners had a choice: get her the medical care required by the shelter to bring her home or leave her behind. They chose to leave her behind. Julie has settled into the routine here at Miri's HQ, enjoying time outside, loving her meals, and making herself at home in her chosen comfy crate space. She’s not a fan of dogs in her face but she coexists just fine with them - and even allowed one special friend into her crate for a snuggle. She’s using pee pads and has even been spotted coming in and out of the dog door on her own! Julie has some neurological challenges: when she’s relaxed, she’s pretty steady, but when she moves, she spins in tight little right circles to get around. She’s looking for a forever family with a yard (she’s not a leash walker) and someone patient enough to help her navigate the world in her own way. Could you be that person for Julie? Story
If you are interested in adopting this dog, please email the adoption counselor:  lisastern.tr@gmail.com  and request an adoption application.  Dog's Name:  Pearl Estimated Breed :  Poodle Mix Approximate Age: 7 yrs Approximate Weight:  11 lbs Currently Living at:  Foster Adoption Fee:  $400   DOG'S DESCRIPTION: Pearl  had a rough start to her life. She was a breeder dog in a puppy mill and then sold to someone who didn't realize how unsocialized she was because of her little experience around humans. They were able to get her vetted but then decided that they didn't have the skills and patience to work with her. Pearl needs a loving patient home so she can learn that people are kind and can be trusted.  Personality: While Pearl is  very skittish with people, she is extremely sweet - not a mean bone in her little body. She is not a biter, but will run away from you if you are within a few feet from her. She is still getting used to being around people.  Training & Behavior:  Pearl is n ot housetrained, but is getting the idea with pee pads. As you can imagine, being a breeder mill dog, she has not experienced activities such as using steps or walking on leash. In general, Pearl is not a barker, but if left in a crate or x-pen, she will howl to let you know when she wants out.  Health & Wellness: Pearl is energetic, up to date on her core vaccines and spayed.  Perfect Home:  Pearl  would do best in a single family home with fenced yard. A quiet, low key environment without children is preferred only because noise and quick movements make her nervous. She would never harm anyone, but she is skittish. Ultimately, she would thrive in a home with another confident dog to show her the way and an adopter who has  rescue experience and will make a long term commitment to working with her. S he will be worth the effort! Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (for dogs over 6 months old), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, Hatton Animal Rescue spends significantly more on each dog than the adoption fee. Story
Matthew might just be the happiest dog you will ever meet. He has loved everyone he has met (so far that has consisted of adults and dogs). Likely good with kids, but he may knock down small ones. Likely some kind of doodle, super sweet, smart but will need training. Mostly housebroken, needs monitoring and visits outside, will need an outlet for his energy-either a fenced yard, lots of walking/playtime, or another playful dog. He is just adorable. PLEASE NOTE- AN APPLICATION FROM THE WEBSITE ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG IS REQUIRED prior to any meet and greet. Calling, emailing and using the “contact us” link is not useful and will delay your consideration in the adoption of the dog. The adoption fee is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including age appropriate vaccinations, worming, flea/tick preventative and spay/neuter. All of our dogs will be microchipped. Because our dogs are in foster homes, applications are required prior to setting up any appointments. Calling or emailing may delay your consideration. APPLY AT ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG (click on the word "Adopt" at top of page to find the dropdown menu with application) We are a non profit no kill 501 (c)3 rescue. Please understand that we do our best to describe our dogs but often we rescue them with virtually no information about them and often our best educated guess can be challenging.
